Most corrupt bookies in international cricket are Indians: ICC official

The ICC has been carrying out investigations on deep rooted corruption in Sri Lankan cricket but amid that, its Anti Corruption Unit official Alex Marshall revealed an alarming fact: most of the bookies indulging in corrupt practices are Indians. Earlier this week, legendary Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya became the first high profile player from the island nation to be charged for violating ICC's anti-corruption code. Even though Jayasuriya has not been charged with fixing, he has been found guilty of non co-operation with investigating authorities. Recently ICC's ACU shared information about active corruptors with England and Sri Lankan cricketers, currently involved in a limited overs series. Asked if all active corruptors are local, ICC's General Manager ACU, Marshall, told ESPN Cricinfo: "In Sri Lanka it was both local and Indian corruptors. In most other parts of the world it is mostly corrupt Indian bookies." Marshall's revelations even though alarming is not surprising after ...

Dominant Pakistan close on series victory over Australia

Pakistan grabbed an early wicket after Babar Azam struck a fluent 99 to edge closer to claiming a series victory over Australia in the second Test at Abu Dhabi on Thursday. Azam narrowly missed out on a hundred after an aggressive innings, while skipper Sarfraz Ahmed followed up his first-innings 94 with 81 as Pakistan declared their second innings at 400-9, setting a daunting 538-run target for the tourists. By the close on the third day, Pakistan had Shaun Marsh dismissed for four -- bowled by left-arm paceman Mir Hamza for his first Test wicket -- to boost their chances of victory after Australia clung on for a thrilling draw in the first Test in Dubai last week. Aaron Finch (24) and Travis Head (17) were at the crease with Australia, who are 47-1 and need another 491 for an unlikely win or to bat out two full days on a weary and spinning Sheikh Zayed Stadium pitch. No team has ever chased more than 418-7 to win a Test, made by the West Indies against Australia at Antigua in ...

Daffinrud takes two-shot lead at Indian Open, Ridhima Tied-5th

Norway's Tonje Daffinrud sizzled at the finish with a hat-trick of birdies to open up a two-shot lead on the first day of the Hero Women's Indian Open here on Thursday. Daffinrud is hoping to emulate fellow Norwegian Emily Pedersen, who won in 2015. Daffinrud, born in the ancient Viking town of Tonsberg near Oslo, was two shots clear of another Norwegian, Marianne Skarpnord; young Thai Pannarat Thanapolboonyaras, and the experienced Austrian Christine Wolf, who carded 68 each. Daffinrud's 6-under 66 was the lowest first round score at the DLF Golf and Country Club since the pairs of 66s by Swede Pernilla Lindberg and Thai Nontaya Srisawang in 2011, but those cards came at the Arnold Palmer course. India's Ridhima Dilawari, playing only her second event as a professional, had a stunning finish with three birdies in the last four holes, generally regarded as the most difficult stretch at the Gary Player Course. Ridhima is Tied-5th with the 2011 champion, Swedish Caroline Hedwall and ...

'Danish Kaneria should've confessed spot-fixing role 6 years back'

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) law advisor Tafzeel Rizvi has said that spinner Danish Kaneriya should have admitted his role in the spot-fixing scandal six years ago.The advisor further stated that Kaneria should issue an apology to public as well as to the PCB, adding that had he confessed his involvement in the matter earlier, the situation would have been entirely different for him."Kaneria should have confessed six years back, now he can't win in the presence of solid evidence. Kaneria did not listen to the PCB. The board spent so much money defending him," Geo TV quoted Rizvi, as saying."He should apologise to the public and the cricket board. If Kaneria had confessed earlier it would have benefitted him," he added. The comment comes after left-arm bowler, in an interview to Al-Jazeera, confessed that he is guilty in a spot-fixing case involving his former Essex team-mate Mervyn Westfield. The bowler not only admitted his role in the fixing scandal but also apologised to Westfield, ..

Mumbai eyes season's first win against Pune in Maha Derby

With a loss and a draw in the first two outings, a struggling Mumbai City FC will be eyeing to record their first win of the season when they take on state rivals FC Pune City in the Indian Super League Friday. Mumbai have started the season in an unimpressive fashion -- with a 2-0 loss at home to Jamshedpur FC, followed by an away 1-1 draw against Kerala Blasters. So the 'Islanders', coached by Jorge Costa, are expected to come out Friday with all guns blazing. Mumbai will have to improve in all areas, particularly in defence, as they have conceded three goals in the two games so far. Mumbai boast of some of the best players in the League - Paulo Machado (Portugal), Senegal's Modou Sougou, striker Rafael Bastos (Brazil) and Subhashish Bose. If Sougou and Bastos play to their potential, they can pose a threat to any side and Pune will be no exception in the 'Maharashtra Derby' at the Mumbai Football Arena in suburban Andheri. Delhi pull off thriller against Jharkhand to enter Vijay Hazare final

Pawan Negi, batting at number nine, scored an unbeaten 39 under intense pressure, helping Delhi pull-off a thrilling two-wicket win over Jharkhand in the second semifinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy here on Thursday. Chasing 200, Delhi were down and out at 149 for eight in the 38th over before Negi and Navdeep Saini (13 not out off 38) batted for almost 12 overs, sharing a match-winning 51-run stand for the ninth wicket. Pacer Saini was deservingly named man of the match as he gave the much needed support to Negi in the tense run chase after taking four wickets that limited Jharkhand to 199 all out in 48.5 overs. Delhi, who have won the tournament once, meet the mighty Mumbai in the final on Saturday. With his stellar effort, Negi has attracted attention after a long time, having slipped off the radar after bagging a million dollar IPL deal in 2016. The southpaw, who had also played a T20 for India in the same year, collected five fours and a six in his gritty knock. Unmukt Chand, who
