President nod on cabinet' s ordinance to set up first sports national university
President Ram Nath Kovind has given his assent to the Union Cabinet's approval on an ordinance to set up the country's first national sports university in Manipur. "National Sports University Ordinance, 2018 has come into force as the President of India has given his assent to the Union Cabinet's decision to promulgate the said Ordinance," stated an official release today. The Union Cabinet, had on May 23, approved an ordinance to set up the country's first national sports university in Imphal. "National Sports University Ordinance, 2018 ("the Ordinance") will be on the lines of the National Sports University Bill, 2017, introduced in Lok Sabha on 10.08.2017. "This will be a specialised University, first of its kind, to promote sports education in the areas of sports sciences, sports technology, sports management and sports coaching besides functioning as the national training centre for select sports disciplines by adopting the best international practices," the release said. Punjab govt announces bus fare hike
The Punjab government today announced a hike in fares for ordinary and air-conditioned buses in the wake of increase in diesel prices. As per the notification issued by the state transport department, the per passenger per km fares of ordinary buses, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), Integral Coach and Super Integral Coach has been fixed at 110 paise, 132 paise, 198 paise and 220 paise respectively with effect from today. Earlier, the fare was 104 paise, 124.80 paise, 187.20 paise and 208 paise for ordinary, HVAC, Integral Coach and Super Integral Coach, an official said. The state-run Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC)'s managing director Manjit Singh Narang said the increase of diesel prices by almost Rs 3.5 per litre in last one month has hit the public transport sector hard. "Our fuel bill which used to be Rs 48-49 lakh a day has now reached to Rs 10 lakh per day which is a huge amount," said Narang.

IOA to take final call on Goa National Games scheduling issues
A crucial Executive Council meeting of the Indian Olympic Association here tomorrow will take a final call on whether Goa will host the National Games as per schedule, while giving an official stamp to its proposal to bid for major multi-sporting events, including the 2032 Olympics. Germany's World Cup-winning coach Joachim Loew on Friday ruled himself out of the running to take over at Real Madrid after reports he has been approached to replace Zinedine Zidane. European football's top financial investigators have recommended excluding Chinese-owned AC Milan from the Europa League next season for violating rules that limit spending, the New York Times reported on Friday. According to the US daily newspaper, "two people involved in the process" have confirmed that UEFA investigators have recommended Milan be excluded from European competition for violating Financial Fair Play rules. UEFA announced last week that the seven-time European champions had failed to convince officials they are financially sound and referred the case to the adjudicatory chamber of its financial control unit to recommend an appropriate punishment.
