Spanish Open Challenge: India's Mondal, Saha clinch bronze
Knocking off the top seeds, India's Raj Mondal and Sourav Saha clinched bronze medal in the Men's Doubles' event of the 2018 Spanish Open Challenge here late on Saturday night.In a tense opening round, Mondal and Saha got the better of Hong Kong's Siu Hang Lam and Pak Nam NG in a five-game battle. They lost two of the first three games (6-11. 11-6, 7-11) before recovering their poise to win the fourth and take the match into the decider.It was a close contest, with both pairs fighting for every point. In the end, the Indian duo prevailed 12-10 for a sweet victory.The second round was a breeze, with Camilo Giraldo of Colombia and Alfonso Olave (Chile) becoming easy fodder for them. Pakistan thrash West Indies in 1st T20
Pakistan downed a depleted West Indies side by 143 runs in the first of three Twenty20s in Karachi on Sunday, the first international match in the city for nine years. The hosts had equalled their highest-ever T20 score of 203-5, with Hussain Talat top-scoring with a 37-ball 41, opener Fakhar Zaman getting a 24-ball 39 and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed hitting 38 off 22 balls after the West Indies sent them into bat. Shoaib Malik scored an unbeaten 37 from 14 balls. The West Indies were bowled out for their lowest T20 total of 60 in 13.4 overs. Striker Aser Dipanda Dicka struck twice, including one from the spot, as Mohun Bagan rallied to beat Churchill Brothers 2-1 and book a quarterfinal berth in the Super Cup football tournament here today. Mohun Bagan were trailing after Willis Plaza found the target in the 30th minute but Dicka equalised by converting from the spot at the stroke of half-time (45+2) before scoring the match-winner in the 70th minute to help his side walk away with all the three points.
