Ghadigaonkar, who hit three boundaries and two sixes in his knock, was superbly caught by Akhil Herwadkar in the deep off Iqbal Abdulla. One-down Suryakumar Yadav (2) fell cheaply, but that did not affect Singh, who completed his 50 in just 35 balls. Singh, who struck five fours and two sixes, fell for 63, caught by Shubham Ranjane off Tushar Desphande, with his side needing just nine runs to win. Bengaluru FC beat Abahani Dhaka 1-0 in AFC Cup

A second string Bengaluru FC comfortably defeated Dhaka Abahani 1-0 in their opening AFC Cup 2018 Group league encounter, here tonight. The winner was scored by Daniel Lalhlimpuia in 72nd minute, when his angular right-footer beat custodian Mohamad Sahidul Alam to hit the back of the net. The victory was a creditable one as Bengaluru played without their skipper Sunil Chhetri, prolific Miku and goalkeeper Gupreet Singh. Abahani almost equalised during the stoppage time when Saad Uddin's right-footed shot sailed over horizontal. Before that, Bangladeshi outfit made another foray into Bengaluru box in the 82nd minute through Saad, who freed Mohammed Mamun Miah only to find him squander it from close range. Earlier in 79th minute, Rubel Miya also missed the target after getting a pass from Sohel Rana following a quick break. Rohit on fire as India crush Bangladesh to enter final

Skipper Rohit Sharma performed when it mattered the most as India outclassed Bangladesh by 17 runs to cruise to the final of the Nidahas T20 tri-series, here tonight. It was Rohit's 89 off 61 balls that took India to a competitive 176 for three in 20 overs and then young Washington Sundar (3/22 in 4 overs) blew away the top-order to help restrict the 'Tigers' to 159 for six in 20 overs. Bangladesh's inconsistency once again proved to be their bane as they found a target of 177 too hot to handle, having chased 215 in their previous encounter. Liton Das danced down the track as Washington fired a widish delivery, which he completely missed for Dinesh Karthik to complete an easy stumping. Soumya Sarkar (1) tried a slog over deep mid-wicket and missed the line completely as Washington angled one into him. The ever dangerous Tamim Iqbal (27 off 19 balls) started on a promising note, hitting three boundaries and a six off a Shardul Thakur over. Teenager Washington's flatter trajectory paid .

Skipper Rohit Sharma roared back to form with a blazing 89 as India scored a competitive 176 for three against Bangladesh in the final league encounter of the Nidahas T20 Tri-Series here tonight. After a prolonged bad patch starting from the tour of South Africa, the stand-in captain was in his element, starting cautiously before finishing with a flourish as he hit five fours and an equal number of sixes off only 61 balls. With another senior pro Suresh Raina (47 off 30 balls) for company, Rohit added 102 runs for the second wicket in only 9.2 overs. The two veterans of numerous IPL battles, shifted gears in the four overs between 16 to 19, in which India scored 55 runs. The final over was a bit of an anti-climax with Bangladesh's best bowler Rubel Hossain (2/27 in 4 overs) keeping things tight and giving away only four runs. The turning point was the 18th over bowled by left-arm military medium bowler Abu Hider Rony (0/43 in 4 overs), which fetched India 21 runs. Rony was hit for ...

Greek soccer faces FIFA expulsion because of violence

Greece could be expelled from international soccer competitions because of widespread violence, a FIFA representative said today. Herbert Huebel said a series of incidents, culminating with a gun-toting club owner running onto the field to protest a disallowed goal, are "unacceptable." "Greek football is going to an edge," Huebel said, adding that a potential Greek suspension from international soccer "is not any more impossible." Huebel met with government and league officials in Athens following Sunday's incident in Thessaloniki at a league match between PAOK Thessaloniki and AEK Athens. The government has indefinitely suspended league play after PAOK owner Ivan Savvidis -- a Russian with strong business interests in Greece -- rushed onto the field, accompanied by bodyguards and with a holstered gun strapped to his waist, when the referee disallowed the goal. Greek league organizers launched disciplinary procedures against Savvidis and PAOK on Wednesday, which could lead to the team
