Jhulan Goswami back for T20s after injury lay-off
Veteran seamer Jhulan Goswami was named in the Indian women's team for the T20 tri-series involving Australia and England with Harmanpreet Kaur back as the leader. The tri-series will be played between March 22-31. Taniya Bhatia will keep the wickets just like she had done during the South Africa T20s while there aren't too many changes in the team. Smriti Mandhana will be Harmanpreet's deputy. Veteran Rumeli Dhar has also retained her place in the squad after a decent show against the Proteas women. The BCCI's women's selection committee on Wednesday picked teenaged all-rounder Jemimah Rodrigues in the Harmanpreet Kaur-led 15-member Indian cricket squad for the upcoming T20 tri-series against Australia and England, to be played in Mumbai from March 22-31.

India's Aizawl FC suffered a 1-3 drubbing at the hands of New Radiant in their maiden group stage AFC Cup match, with inspirational skipper Ali Ashfaq's hat-trick leading the Maldivian charge here today. The 2016-17 I-League winners, playing with 10 men for some part of the second half, found the day's opener in the 33rd minute, but the game belonged to New Radiant as star striker Ashfaq scored in the 40th, 77th and 85th minute at the National Stadium. Indian athletes depart for CWG, Asian Cross Country
To sharpen their skills further and get acclimatised to the conditions ahead of next month's Commonwealth Games, a four-member Indian athletics team, including star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, today departed for Gold Coast. National record holder triple jumper Arpinder Singh and long jumpers Nayana James and Neena Varakil also left along with Chopra, the IAAF U20 World Champion. The Indians will camp and train at Super Sports Center in Gold Coast till March 25th before moving to the Commonwealth Games Village. Of the 31-member athletics team selected for CWG, Tejaswin Shankar, Indian record holder in high jump, who is currently training in US will join the Indian team later.. Domestic doyen Wasim Jaffer showed his mastery with a 53rd first-class hundred in Vidarbha's 289 for two against Rest of India on the opening day of the Irani Cup, which witnessed an out-of-sorts Ravichandran Ashwin trying his hand at bowling leg breaks. NGT notice to govt, BCCI on plea alleging misuse of water during IPL
A plea seeking ban on 2018 Indian Premier League cricket matches on the ground that it leads to wastage of lakhs of litres of water today prompted the National Green Tribunal to seek responses from the Centre, BCCI and others. A bench headed by Justice Jawad Rahim issued notices to the Ministry of Water Resources, the Board of Control for Cricket in India and nine states where these matches are proposed to be held. The parties have been directed to file their replies within two weeks and the matter has been posted for next hearing on April 28. The tribunal's order came on a plea filed by Alwar-based youth Haidar Ali seeking action against all concerned for wasting enormous amounts of water to prepare the pitches for holding the tournament. "Direct the authorities to stop holding the cash-rich tournament for commercial purpose which would be played at nine venues commencing April 7," the plea said.
