Disciplinary guidelines for players of Jamshedpur FC

The Jamshedpur Football Club (FC) has framed disciplinary guidelines for players and officials during the ongoing Indian Super League, a top club official said Thursday. In an attempt to develop a sense of togetherness among the players, officials and technical staff members, the club has framed guidelines informally to maintain discipline as well as fix responsibility on players and officials in the current session of the ISL, the official said. The players and officials will have to pay a fine if they break the discipline of the team, he said, adding that even the chief executive officer (CEO) of the team also comes under the purview of the disciplinary guidelines. The fines collected will be spent on social cause such as spending on education of poor children or providing football to poor kids, said CEO Mukul Choudhari. Talking to PTI, Choudhari said the initiative was absolutely informal and the brainchild of the teams Spanish head coach Cesar Ferrando to inculcate a

Father assigned to plot son's dismissal; anti-pollution masks make first appearance

It can be difficult for a father to "plot" his son's dismissal but Railways' observer Dinesh Lad has been handed the unenviable task -- to devise a strategy for his in-form son Siddhesh -- who plays for Mumbai. Lad was on the job on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy encounter between the two teams. Better known as Rohit Sharma's childhood coach, Lad is a former Western Railway cricketer, who has been summoned by his employers to set the senior team's house in order. "I was only told yesterday that I would be the Railways observer for this season. I haven't yet received any appointment letter so I will only meet the team after the end of the day's play," Lad told PTI while watching the proceedings from the Karnail Singh Stadium stands. So has he offered any tips to Railways bowlers on how to dismiss Siddhesh, and he laughed. "It's a very tricky situation for a father. I have to think about my team and at the same time as a father, I don't want my son to fail," Lad said as Siddhesh ...

India bundle out West Indies for 104

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets to help India bundle out the West Indies for 104 in the fifth and final ODI at the Greenfield Stadium here Thursday. It was a complete surrender from the West Indies whose innings lasted just 31.5 overs. Ravindra Jadeja stood out with figures of 4 for 34 while Khaleel Ahmed and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each. The visitors were in trouble right from the start after skipper Jason Holder chose to bat. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar had Kieran Powell caught behind by M S Dhoni for a duck off the fourth ball, giving India their first wicket. Shai Hope, who has been one of the best West Indies batsmen on tour alongside Shimron Hetmyer, was castled by Bumrah off a beauty in the second over to leave the team at 2 for 2. The experienced Marlon Samuels, from whom a lot was expected, led a brief revival, hitting some crisp boundaries and the only six of the innings. The Indian domination could be gauged from the fact that the first boundary came .

India lose to Bangladesh on penalties in SAFF U-15 semifinal

Defending champions India crashed out in the semifinals of the SAFF U-15 Championship after suffering a heartbreaking loss to neighbours Bangladesh on penalties on Thursday. India took an early lead in the first half via a long-ranger from Harsh Patre but a 93rd-minute penalty from Ashkul Rahman saw the match go past regulation time. In the end, however, the Indians experienced heartbreak as Bangladesh won 4-2 on penalties. In the first half, Bangladesh took the early initiative and launched a flurry of attacks. However, India were alert and looked to capitalise on any opportunity to hit their neighbours on the counter. Bangladesh constantly looked to attack down the wing and sent in dangerous crosses but the Indian defence, aided by their keeper Santosh Singh, held its ground, thwarting the attacks one after the other. India took the lead in the 17th minute against the run of play, when midfielder Patre scored a scorcher of a goal from 30 yards. India switched the play from the left .

'High need to achieve' - Bolt joins Jordan in quest to switch sports

From Michael Jordan to Usain Bolt, a select few elite athletes have attempted the switch to another top-level sport in a trait psychologists see as a "high need to achieve" coupled with filling a gulf in their lives. Sprint king Bolt is the latest example, with the eight-time Olympic champion on a mission to become a professional footballer, trying out with Australian team Central Coast Mariners after retiring from track and field. It is a boyhood dream for the 32-year-old Jamaican, who remains the 100m world record holder. But his abilities have been questioned, with the fitness levels and skill-sets needed for soccer very different from being the fastest man on earth. Martin Hagger, a world-renowned psychologist at Curtin University in Perth, said sports-hopping at the end of athletes' careers was never easy. "Athletes like Bolt have what psychologists call a high need to achieve, an innate drive that means they thrive on competition and the need to display to themselves (and ...

Farokh Engineer urges Imran Khan to restore India-Pakistan Test ties

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Farokh Engineer has urged Pakistan's captain-turned-Prime Minister Imran Khan to use his political clout and restore bilateral Test cricket between the arch-rivals. Since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, bilateral cricket ties between India and Pakistan have been frozen amid political tensions and they only play each other in multi-nation events such as the World Cup. The last time the neighbours met in a five-day international was in Bangalore in 2007. "Imran Khan, he is the prime minister now. Hopefully India and Pakistan will start a dialogue," Engineer, a flamboyant player of the 1960s and 70s said during the inaugural Ranji Memorial Public Conversation in London this week. "They should be playing Test cricket against each other because it will do Pakistan cricket, their economy, a world of good. But you hear about border skirmishes and this and that. They've got to have dialogue." Khan, one of the outstanding all-rounders of his generation, became

Romagnoli scores at both ends as AC Milan go fourth

Alessio Romagnoli snatched a late win after earlier conceding an own goal as AC Milan moved fourth in Serie A with a 2-1 win over Genoa. The match between the two teams had been postponed following the Genoa bridge collapse in August which killed 41 people. "I'm sorry for my own goal, but I made up for it," said Romagnoli. Gennaro Gattuso's side overtake Lazio on goal difference with 18 points from ten games -- ten points behind leaders Juventus -- and four points behind Napoli in third. "It's a step, now we have to stay there," said Gattuso, whose side had been in tenth position before the international break. "We know it's difficult, but after everything we've been through, it's something important." Spanish forward Suso had put the hosts ahead after four minutes but Gattuso's side then suffered, with Romagnoli turning into his own net after 56 minutes after a mixup with on-loan Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. Boxing body vote could see sport thrown out of Olympics

The congress of the scandal-hit International Amateur Boxing Federation (AIBA) that begins in Moscow on Friday may be a turning point for the sport and its future in the Olympics. Gafur Rakhimov, an Uzbek who has been linked to organised crime by the US Treasury Department, is one of two candidates standing for the position of AIBA president at the meeting. Rakhimov has vigorously denied US government allegations but in October the International Olympics Committee (IOC) froze relations with AIBA and refused to accredit Rakhimov to the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. The IOC move made it clear that it was prepared to kick the AIBA out of the Olympic movement and remove boxing from the 2020 Tokyo Games if the "governance problems" in the ruling body were not resolved. In February, the IOC said they were worried by the nomination of the Uzbek businessman for the AIBA interim presidency, a position he still occupies. - Bout-fixing allegations - =========================== The IOC has been

Son of Pakistani great Qadir wants to play for Australia

The son of Pakistani Test great Abdul Qadir has set his sights on playing for Australia, boosting his chances by taking three South African wickets for a Prime Minister's XI. A leg-spinner like his father, Usman Qadir donned the Australian colours for the first time in the PM XI's win over a near full-strength Proteas in a one-day warm-up on Wednesday ahead of their limited overs series. With a repertoire of leg-breaks, googlies and top-spinners, he is in the country on a temporary activity visa and plans to apply for a distinguished talent visa so he can stay on and get citizenship to represent the national team. If he achieves his dream, he will follow in the footsteps of another Pakistani who secured citizenship to play for Australia -- Fawad Ahmed, who appeared five times for his adopted country, making his debut in 2013. "My goal is to play for Australia in 2020 in the T20 World Cup," said Qadir after taking 3-28 from his 10 overs in the game at Canberra. "Before that if I get ...

Chelsea beat Lampard's Derby in League Cup Halloween thriller

Chelsea dumped Frank Lampard's Derby out of the League Cup despite a valiant effort by the Championship side to battle back from a defensive Halloween horror show. Maurizio Sarri's much-changed side eventually emerged 3-2 winners, with all five goals coming in a helter-skelter first half, on a night when there were also fourth-round victories for Arsenal, Tottenham and Middlesbrough. Two astonishing early defensive errors at Stamford Bridge from Fikayo Tomori -- on loan from Chelsea -- and Richard Keogh either side of a Jack Marriott equaliser gave the home side a 2-1 lead. Undaunted, Lampard's side levelled shortly before the half-hour through Martyn Waghorn before Cesc Fabregas restored order for the Premier League high-flyers. Lampard, one of Chelsea's greatest-ever players, felt his side deserved a draw on chances created but said he was a "lucky man" to be able to enjoy such an occasion. "The difference between the sides was they scored three... actually we scored four didn't we?

Global gathering bashes WADA over Russia reinstatement

Global athletes and anti-doping leaders called Wednesday for major reforms of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) after its controversial reinstatement of Russia. WADA's move in September after a three-year ban for running a state-sponsored doping scheme has drawn worldwide criticism and calls for urgent reform at the Canada-based global doping watchdog. "We aren't just asking for WADA to change. We are asking for systematic and deep change," said James Carroll, White House Office of National Drug Control Policy deputy director. "We are united in calling for the World Anti-Doping Agency to provide stronger leadership on behalf of clean competition." Linda Helleland, Norway's youth minister and a WADA vice president who opposed Russian reinstatement, was joined in attendance by 14 athletes and anti-doping leaders from Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom. "Athletes have started a march, a march for transparency, independence and change," said
