Tata Group will move to 70% green energy by 2030: Chairman Chandrasekaran

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Saturday said the conglomerate will move to 70 per cent green energy by 2030. He was addressing the convocation of XLRI-Xavier School of Management in Jamshedpur where he was honoured with the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace. "Nation-building impulse is as relevant now as it was earlier. There are major energy transitions, digital transitions in the form of AI and machine learning, and supply chain transitions that we are facing today. But, India is uniquely placed because we can invest in each of these transitions today because of the geopolitical advantages that our country has," he said. He said that by 2030, the Tata Group will move to 70 per cent green energy. Chandrasekaran said the priorities of the conglomerate are simplification, synergy, sustainability, supply chain transformation and digital transformation. "These are achieved via integrity, sound strategy, great execution, good governance and consistent .

Air India lays off over 180 non-flying staff as part of fitment process

Air India has laid off more than 180 non-flying staff in recent weeks, sources said while the airline maintained that the affected people were not able to utilise the voluntary retirement schemes and reskilling opportunities. The loss-making Air India was taken over by the Tata Group in January 2022 and since then, efforts are being made to streamline the business model. An Air India spokesperson on Friday said that as part of the fitment process, employees in non-flying functions have been assigned roles based on organisational needs and individual merit. "A comprehensive process has been followed to assess the suitability of all employees over the past 18 months. During this phase, there have also been multiple Voluntary Retirement Schemes and reskilling opportunities offered to employees. Maha govt new owner of iconic Air India building, pays Rs 1,601 cr

The Maharashtra government has become the owner of iconic Air India building with the Union government approving transfer of the asset on Thursday. The Maharashtra government bought the Air India building at Nariman Point in Mumbai for Rs 1,601 crore. "GoI has approved transfer of Air India building, Mumbai of AI Assets Holding Company Ltd (AIAHL) to Government of Maharashtra (GoM) at consideration of Rs.1601 cr. GoM has agreed to waive dues of Rs. 298.42 cr, which would have been otherwise payable by AIAHL to GoM for this transaction," DIPAM Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey said in a post on X. AIAHL, a Government of India company under administrative control of Ministry of Civil Aviation, was set up in 2019 for holding non-core assets and debt of Air India. Tata's chip plants to serve all sectors, generate 72k jobs: Chandrasekaran

Tata Electronics plants will gradually serve all sectors in a phased manner by supplying chips and generate around 72,000 jobs over the years, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said here. While speaking on the sidelines of the groundbreaking ceremony of Tata Electronics' Rs 91,000 crore chip manufacturing plant and Rs 27,000 crore chip assembly facility in Assam, Chandrasekaran said there will be the expansion of projects but only after the company cross the early milestones. He said Tata Electronics chips will cater to the requirements of various sectors, including automotive, power, electronics, consumer, and medical, among others. "There is a whole range of sectors, which have a need for chips in this sector. Obviously, we can't produce all form factors on Day 1. It will happen in stages, but we will be serving all sectors," Chandrasekaran said. Tata's chip plant is capable of producing wafers in 28 nanometers (nm) to 110 nanometer nodes, the chairman noted. First chip from Dholera plant will be out in December 2026, says Vaishnaw

The first set of semiconductors will start rolling out from Tata Electronics' plant here in December 2026, union minister for communications and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday. Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of Tata Group and CG Power chip plants, Vaishnaw said India will be among the top five chip ecosystems in the world by 2029. "The first chip from Dholera plant will be out in December 2026 and chip from Micron plant will be out by December 2024," the minister said. He said Tata's Dholera plant will make chips in 28, 50, 55 nanometer node. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday laid the foundation of three chip plants -- two units by Tata Electronics and the third by CG Power -- entailing total investment of Rs 1.26 lakh crore.
