Varanasi court grants additional 4 weeks to ASI to complete Gyanvapi survey

A Varanasi court on Friday granted additional four weeks to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for completing the scientific survey on the Gyanvapi mosque that stands next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple here. Hearing a plea by the ASI, District Judge A K Vishvesha allowed it the additional time. Representing the Hindu petitioners, advocate Madan Mohan Yadav, said the deadline for completing the survey has been extended till September 4 from August 4. The ASI had put the survey exercise on hold on July 24 as the Allahabad High Court was hearing a petition against it. The ASI resumed the survey Friday morning after a go-ahead from the HC on August 3. The Muslim side has, however, moved the Supreme Court against the HC order.

UP CM stresses need for speedy disposal of govt cases pending in courts

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday stressed the need for speedy disposal of the cases of government departments pending in various courts, and directed officials to create a panel of noted advocates for the purpose. Speedy disposal of pending cases of government departments in various courts of the state is very necessary as this affects the work of the departments, he said. In view of this, the chief minister asked officials to create a panel of expert advocates, in addition to government advocates, and appoint them for effective handling of the matters in courts. Adityanath, who reviewed the working of the Justice Department, also asked for fixing a fee for these advocates, according to an official release. The chief minister said that a strong judicial system is the basis of good governance. "In view of this, encourage Gram Nyayalayas. It should be our priority to get affordable, simple, accessible, and quick justice to the common man at the tehsil level .

NLC along with UP govt to set up 1,980 MW thermal plant for Rs 19,406 cr

NLC India Ltd has entered into a joint venture with the UP government to set up a thermal power plant at a cost of Rs 19,406 crore. The plant will come up at Ghatampur near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the Ministry of Coal said in a statement on Wednesday. The 1,980 MW plant will have three units of 660 MW each. The first phase of the project will start generating power by the end of this year, the statement said. Once fully operational, around 1,478.28 MW power will be supplied to Uttar Pradesh and the remaining 492.72 MW to Assam, the ministry said. Tamil Nadu-based NLC, under the ministry, operates three opencast lignite mines with a total installed capacity of 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) at Neyveli, another opencast lignite mine at Barsingsar in Rajasthan with an installed capacity of 2.1 MTPA and an opencast coal mine at Talabira in Odisha with an installed capacity of 20 MTPA. The company also operates four lignite-based pit-head thermal power stations with an aggregate .

Prez assented 247 bills from 2014-22; 95 bills still under process

The President has assented 247 bills that were received from the state governments and Union territories between 2014 and 2022, Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Of these assented bills, the highest 24 were from Gujarat, followed by 23 from Uttar Pradesh. Mishra, the minister of state for home, said the central government has also received 95 bills between 2014 and 2022 from different state governments and UTs for obtaining assent of the President and all these legislations have been processed in consultation with the nodal central ministries and departments. Twenty-four bills from Gujarat, 23 bills from Uttar Pradesh and 22 bills from Maharashtra were assented by the President between 2014 and 2022, according to the data given by the minister in a written reply. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday laid the foundation stone here in Bhati Vihar colony of a mini sports complex, to be built at the cost of Rs 6.18 crore. Hindon river floods Ghaziabad village, more than 50 residents rescued

More than 50 people were on Sunday rescued from Karhera village located on the banks of the Hindon here after it was flooded following an increase in the water discharge in the river, a tributary of the Yamuna, officials said. A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team and the Sahibabad police used motorboats to shift residents of the village, where more than 8 feet of water has accumulated, they said. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sahibabad, Bhaskar Verma said some villagers have been shifted to safer places while others moved to their relatives' houses. The Uttar Pradesh government has withdrawn the 'Y-category' security cover provided to senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, saying it was not needed. Rampur Additional Superintendent of Police Sansar Singh said they received a letter from the security headquarters in Lucknow, which said there is no need to provide the Y-category security to Khan, a 10-time MLA from Rampur. In compliance with the order, his security was withdrawn, he added. Singh said under the Y-category security, Khan was given three gunmen and security personnel who were posted at his residence round the clock. UP govt to organise mega e-auction to allot industrial plots: Officials

With a view to allotting plots for industrial projects on a large scale, the Uttar Pradesh government will organise a mega e-auction on Thursday, officials said. The online auction would be held from 10 am for industrial plots in Lucknow, Kanpur, Trans Delhi Signature City, Ayodhya, Agra, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Gorakhpur and Aligarh, they said. A total of 154 industrial plots, 3 group housing, one nursing home, 8 plots for warehouse and others will be put up for the auction. The e-auction is being organised by Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Department (UPSIDA), they said. For participation in this mega bidding process, depositing fees including application, catalogue downloading, document filing and downloading has already been completed through online medium. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said Uttar Pradesh will be the first state in the country to have 18 'safe cities', providing a conducive environment for the safety and development of every resident of the state, according to a statement. 'Sikkim tops northeast, UP among bigger states in grievance redressal'

Sikkim has topped the northeastern states in addressing public complaints, followed by Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the Centre said on Tuesday. The ranking was made in the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) monthly report, released by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) under the Personnel Ministry, for states for June 2023. "Government of Sikkim tops the ranking among the northeastern states with a score of 66.70 per cent, followed by the government of Assam with a score of 57.45 per cent and government of Arunachal Pradesh with a score of 52.30 per cent.
