The administration has sounded a high alert in Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts of Uttar Pradesh and stepped up monitoring of the Gandak and other water bodies downstream of rivers in Nepal, following devastating flash floods in the neighbouring country that have killed at least 177 people and left thousands missing. The administration in UP, which shares its northern borders with Nepal, is focusing on river monitoring, alerting vulnerable villages and keeping relief-and-rescue teams ready. The UP government has deployed a 32-member SDRF platoon and 22 PAC personnel to Nepal for rescue and relief operations following directions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, an official statement said. Youtuber and Haryanvi singer Ankit Balyan was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside a gym in Shamli district on Wednesday evening, police said. The Centre has approved a proposal of the Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU) at Fursatganj in Amethi to expand its aerospace activities on an additional 500 acres, and directed the Uttar Pradesh government to make the land available for it, a top official has said. "The Centre has approved our proposal and sent it to the Uttar Pradesh government for making 500 acres of land available to us," RGNAU Vice Chancellor B N Singh told reporters on Friday. Singh said a centre of excellence would be developed once the state government provides the land, for which a survey is currently underway.
