Six labourers killed as under-construction bridge collapses in UP

Six labourers were killed and three others injured after part of an under-construction bridge collapsed following a storm over the Betwa river in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district early Friday, officials said. The incident occurred around 3 am between Parsani and Kandaur villages when a slab of the bridge being constructed from Maurakandar to Kurara collapsed, they said. According to officials, several labourers engaged in the bridge construction work were sleeping on the upper portion of a slab when it suddenly gave way. The deceased were identified as Lokendra (22), Kuldeep Nishad (19), Sawant Yadav (28) and Sabhajeet (30), Pushpendra Chauhan (34), and Rajesh Pal (42), police said. Three labourers were trapped under a pillar and later rescued. The injured were admitted to the district hospital in Hamirpur. UP STF busts SSC exam rigging racket; seven arrested in Greater Noida

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has busted an alleged racket involved in rigging Staff Selection Commission (SSC) online recruitment examinations using proxy servers and dummy candidates, arresting seven people from Greater Noida, officials said on Saturday. The accused were allegedly manipulating SSC examinations for recruitment of constables in the CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) and SSF (Secretariat Security Force), and riflemen in the Assam Rifles, at an online examination centre operating under the name "Balaji Digital Zone" in the Knowledge Park area. The racket was busted on Friday. Those arrested were identified as Pradeep Chauhan of Muzaffarnagar, Arun Kumar of Mathura, Sandeep Bhati and Nishant Raghav of Bulandshahr, Amit Rana and Shakir Malik of Baghpat, and Vivek Kumar of Bulandshahr, it said. UP Guv mandates uniform for students in all state colleges, universities

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Thursday mandated uniforms for all universities and colleges in the state. Patel, the chancellor of all state universities, issued the direction on Wednesday at a meeting in Jan Bhavan. The order pertains to all government and aided colleges affiliated to Jananayak Chandrashekhar University, Ballia, an official statement said. Finance minister Suresh Kumar Khanna welcomed the move, saying, "Discipline measures being implemented by her in universities are in the interest of students." The governor also issued strict instructions to teachers, saying no teacher should indulge in any act that harms the dignity and stature of the profession, the statement said. Balrampur Chini aims ₹ 2,000 cr revenue from new bio-plastic plant in UP

Sugar firm Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd expects about Rs 2,000 crore annual revenue from its new bio-plastic plant in Uttar Pradesh, scheduled to be commissioned during the December quarter, a senior company official said. Balrampur Chini Mills, which has 10 sugar factories in Uttar Pradesh, is setting up a Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) plant of 80,000 tonnes per annum capacity at a cost of more than Rs 3,000 crore. In an interview with PTI, Balrampur Chini Executive Director Avantika Saraogi said, "This new plant will be operational in the third quarter of this fiscal." Asked about the revenue potential from the plant, she said, "We are expecting a revenue of about Rs 2,000 crore at full capacity. Balrampur Chini posted a total revenue of around Rs 6,300 crore during the last fiscal. The full-year impact of this new PLA plant would be reflected in the 2027-28 fiscal.
