Shares of Vodafone Idea jumped nearly 10 per cent in morning trade on Friday after Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla returned to the board of the debt-ridden firm as an additional director in a non-executive and non-independent role. The stock of the telecom firm zoomed 9.73 per cent to Rs 6.65 on the BSE. At the NSE, it jumped 9.91 per cent to Rs 6.65. Birla had stepped down from Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) board in August 2021 as non-executive chairman of the company. Shareholders of debt-ridden Vodafone Idea have approved issuing shares worth Rs 1,600 crore to ATC Telecom Infrastructure on a preferential basis, according to a regulatory filing. Vodafone Idea Ltd's (VIL) board has given its nod to settle Rs 1,600 crore dues to equipment vendor ATC Telecom by converting the due amount into equity, if the amount remained unpaid in 18 months. As per the scrutiniser's report with respect to the voting on proposals during the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on November 21, as many as 99.99 per cent shareholders voted in favour of the "special resolution for issue of securities on a preferential basis". The report was submitted as part of the filing by the company to the stock exchanges on Tuesday. VIL is raising the amount through equity convertible debt bonds that carry a coupon rate of 11.2 per cent per annum payable every six months during its term. India's total mobile subscriber base fell by 3.6 million in September, with Vodafone Idea suffering subscriber count decline even as larger rivals Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel added users month-on-month, according to telecom regulator's data. India's largest mobile operator Jio further cemented its position in the market, adding 7.2 lakh wireless subscriber during September, while Bharti Airtel increased its mobile users' tally by 4.12 lakh.
