Twenty-five separatists were killed in fighting in a restive English-speaking region of Cameroon, security officials said Wednesday. "Twenty-five 'Amba Boys' were killed in three clashes" on Tuesday in Mbot, a village near the town of Nkambe, a source in the capital Yaounde said, confirming a security source in the troubled Northwest Region. "Amba Boys" refers to separatists who last year launched an armed campaign for the independence of Cameroon's two anglophone regions, which they call Ambazonia. Boko Haram jihadists have killed at least 16 farmers and left dozens missing in the latest attacks in restive northeast Nigeria's Borno state, militia and residents said on Wednesday. The civilian militia fighting the Islamists found 15 bodies in fields around Kazaa and Daraa villages, five kilometres outside the garrison town of Monguno on Tuesday. A farmer was also shot dead while working near Gremari village, 13 kms from the state capital Maiduguri. A gang of robbers shot dead a man and thrashed his brother when they resisted an attempt to loot their house in Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh, police said Wednesday. The gang entered the house in Baimyana village in the Bhamaura area on Tuesday night. As the family members raised an alarm, the gang shot dead Chaman (38) and thrashed his brother Naseemuddin (45), the police said. Naseemudding suffered injuries. On hearing gun shots, neighbours came out and nabbed two members of the gang, while the rest managed to flee. The duo, identified as Naved and Acchan, were handed over to the police. Two unidentified men looted Rs 50 lakh cash from bank officials at Nabha in Punjab's Patiala district on Wednesday, police said. The incident took place around 11:25 am in Anaj Mandi branch of the nationalised bank in Nabha, where the officials had brought cash from the Patiala branch in a private vehicle, they said. The officials were attacked by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle when they were about to enter the Anaj mandi branch. The bag containing cash was snatched at gun point, police said, adding a security guard of the bank was injured after the miscreants open fired at him. Afghan officials say the Taliban have killed 12 members of the Afghan security forces, including nine soldiers who died in a battle in the Maidan Wardak province just outside the capital, Kabul. Hekmat Durani, spokesman for the provincial police chief, says the nine were killed in the Sayed Abad district, and that another three soldiers were wounded. He says five insurgents were killed in the exchange late Tuesday. Security forces Wednesday arrested two local militants of Hizbul Mujahideen and recovered cache of arms and ammunition from their possession in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Acting on a credible input, the security forces arrested the duo at a check point at Panzgam in Awantipora area, a police spokesman said. "During checking, security forces recovered arms and ammunition from their possession which includes UBGL, grenades and live rounds and other incriminating material," he said. The arrested militants have been identified as Jan Mohammad Sheikh and Nasir-ul-Islam, both affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen, the spokesman said. A case has been registered under relevant sections of law.

Four persons, travelling in a hired SUV from Jammu, snatched the vehicle from its driver at gunpoint near Madhopur area here, police said Wednesday. The incident took place Tuesday night when the driver stopped the car near Madhopur after one of the passengers complained of vomiting, they said. The suspects, who were speaking in Punjabi, had booked the car from the Jammu taxi stand, police said. They said the driver was identified as Raj Kumar, a resident of Jammu. A senior Shiv Sena minister demanded Tuesday thatthe liquor ban in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district should be lifted, arguing that it was leading to rise in sale of illegal liquor and related crimes.
