A US Air Force fighter jet intercepted a small general aviation aircraft flying near President Donald Trump's private golf club. The US military announced that an F-16 jet intercepted a plane yesterday flying "without proper clearances or communications" in the temporary flight restriction zone around the president's Bedminster, New Jersey, golf course, where he is spending the weekend. Continental US North American Aerospace Defense Command says the intercepted aircraft landed at an airport in Pittstown without incident, where local law enforcement met the pilot. Trump arrived in New Jersey Friday afternoon and is scheduled to depart for Washington today. There was no immediate reaction from the White House, but Trump tweeted critically several times yesterday about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
Niger's army said it killed "ten terrorists" after one of its military positions in the southwest of the country was attacked by fighters from the Boko Haram jihadist group. "In the night from Thursday to Friday, the military station of Baroua was attacked by the terrorist group Boko Haram," Niger's defence ministry said in a statement. According to a preliminary toll, one army soldier was killed and two others injured. "On the enemy's side, 10 terrorists were killed," the statement added. The ministry said the area was still being searched by security forces. Baroua is in Niger's southeastern Diffa region, near the border with Nigeria, and has been the target of numerous attacks by Boko Haram. At the beginning of July, six Niger soldiers were killed in an attack at a military post in the same area. The previous month, three suicide bombers blew themselves up in Diffa town, killing six people.

The body of a police constable, who was abducted apparently by Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants from his residence in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, has been found, officials said today. Constable Saleem Shah, who was on leave, was abducted from his residence in Mutalhama area of Kulgam in south Kashmir last night, a police spokesperson said. He said Shah's body was recovered from a nursery near Redwani Payeen village. The body bore severe injury marks, indicating that he was brutally tortured by the militants, the spokesperson said. He said Shah had joined the services in 2016 and after completing his basic training, was posted to DPL Pulwama. The slain cop is survived by aged parents, two brothers and one sister and was the lone bread-earner for his family, the official said. He said a case has been registered and efforts were underway to nab the killers. Two overground workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested today in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, the police said. Acting on credible inputs, the police, with the assistance of the security forces, arrested two active OGWs of proscribed terror outfit LeT, identified as Tanveer Ahmad Mir and Tanveer Ahmad Najar, a police spokesperson said. Both are residents of Sopore's Brath Kalan village, he added. The police spokesperson said one UBGL grenade, one AK-47 magazine with 15 rounds and two matrix sheets were recovered from the possession of Mir and Najar. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway, he said.
The Madras High Court has held that though documents such as Aadhaar, voter ID and marriage certificate have been obtained by a Sri Lanka-born national, she cannot claim to be an Indian national unless the status is conferred by the competent authority. Justice T Raja dismissed a plea of the daughter of a Sri Lankan woman, who has been detained at the International Airport here for the past few weeks, seeking her release. "Although she has produced the Aadhaar card, driving licence, voter identity card and the marriage registration certificate of her mother, her mother has not made any application before the competent authority seeking conferment of her status as an Indian citizen," the judge said in his order recently. The police today exchanged fire with cadres of a militant organisation in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, a district police release said. Some high ranking cadres of Peoples Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK) were taking shelter at Bokaram Tokbi gaon. When a police team reached the area, the militants fired at them and the police returned the fire. In the exchange of fire between the police and PDCK militants, there was no report of any injury on the police side but "it is reliably learnt some senior cadres of the PDCK were injured in the exchange of fire," the release said. The police recovered one AK rifle, 70 rounds of ammunition, two magazines of the rifle, two mobile phones, one knife and a bag from the area after the exchange of fire, it said.

One person was killed and three, including a property dealer, were injured when armed assailants resorted to indiscriminate firing on their car near a court here, the police said today. Superintendent of Police V K Singh said, "Property dealer Sanjay Verma, along with his associates, was returning home after appearing in a case, when three persons started firing at his car." "In the firing, Jai Goswami, the personal security guard of the property dealer, died, while three, including Verma, were injured," the officer said, adding the injured have been hospitalised. It seems that old rivalry was behind the attack. Police teams have been formed to nab the culprits, Singh said.

Militants today opened fire on security forces at two places in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. In the first attack, the militants fired upon the security forces at the Bamzoo area of Mattan in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, a police official said. He said the attack was repulsed by the forces and there was no loss of life. In the second incident, the militants attacked a patrolling party of the Army between Hawoorah and Redwani villages in Kulgam district, the official said. He said the firing was retaliated by the forces. There are no reports of any loss of life, the official said.
At least 10 members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards were killed when insurgents attacked one of their bases along the border with Iraq, the force said in a statement today. The attack happened on Friday night in the village of Dari, in the Marivan district of Iran's northwestern Kurdistan region. "The attack by the evil rebels and terrorists against a revolutionary border post and the explosion of a munitions depot caused the martyrdom of 10 fighters," the Guards' ground forces division said in the statement. An Iranian news agency is reporting 10 border guards have been killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen near the Iraqi border. The semi-official Fars news agency reported Saturday that the attack took place the night before near the town of Marivan, in a Kurdish area of Iran some 620 kilometers (385 miles) west of the capital Tehran. Fars reported that during the shootout with the Iranian border guards, several of the attackers were killed and others were injured but gave no further details. It described the attackers as "bandits and counterrevolutionary terrorists." It was the largest number of Iranian troops killed in a single attack on the Iraqi border in recent years, though the area has seen occasional fighting between Iranian forces and Kurdish separatists as well as militants linked to the Islamic State extremist group.
