The body of a Jammu and Kashmir police constable, who was abducted by militants from his residence in Kulgam district, has been found, a police official said today. Constable Saleem Shah, who was on leave, was abducted by militants from his residence in the Mutalhama area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir last night, he said. A case has been registered and efforts are underway to nab the killers of the constable, he added.

Militants today opened fire on security forces at two places in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. In the first attack, the militants fired upon the security forces at the Bamzoo area of Mattan in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, a police official said. He said the attack was repulsed by the forces and there was no loss of life. In the second incident, the militants attacked a patrolling party of the Army between Hawoorah and Redwani villages in Kulgam district, the official said. He said the firing was retaliated by the forces. There are no reports of any loss of life, the official said.
At least 10 members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards were killed when insurgents attacked one of their bases along the border with Iraq, the force said in a statement today. The attack happened on Friday night in the village of Dari, in the Marivan district of Iran's northwestern Kurdistan region. "The attack by the evil rebels and terrorists against a revolutionary border post and the explosion of a munitions depot caused the martyrdom of 10 fighters," the Guards' ground forces division said in the statement. There was some confusion over the announcement, as the statement listed 11 names of "martyred" soldiers. It added that "several terrorists" had also been killed and injured in the clash. "A merciless vengeance awaits them," the statement added.
An Iranian news agency is reporting 10 border guards have been killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen near the Iraqi border. The semi-official Fars news agency reported Saturday that the attack took place the night before near the town of Marivan, in a Kurdish area of Iran some 620 kilometers (385 miles) west of the capital Tehran. Fars reported that during the shootout with the Iranian border guards, several of the attackers were killed and others were injured but gave no further details. It described the attackers as "bandits and counterrevolutionary terrorists." It was the largest number of Iranian troops killed in a single attack on the Iraqi border in recent years, though the area has seen occasional fighting between Iranian forces and Kurdish separatists as well as militants linked to the Islamic State extremist group.

Unidentified robbers allegedly looted Rs 8.95 lakh cash from an ATM of a public sector bank after injuring its security guard in Sector 16 here, police said today. The incident took place at around 3 am today, they said. The security guard, identified as Satbir Singh, was beaten up mercilessly with bricks by assailants and sustained serious injuries, they said. A scrutiny of the footage acquired from the ATM CCTV camera showed a masked man in a white shirt entering the ATM kiosk, the police said. The place where the incident took place is about 500 metres away from the police station. A probe into the matter is underway, the police added.
