Restrictions imposed in Kashmir amid protest call by separatists

Authorities today imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in view of a strike called by separatists over the killing of militants during an encounter and the death of a civilian in a clash here. Restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPc have been imposed in seven police station areas of the city here, a police official said. He said strict curbs have been imposed in the police station areas of Nowhatta, Rainawari, Safakadal, MR Gunj and Khanyar, while partial restrictions were in force in the Maisuma and Kralkhud areas. The curbs were put in place as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order, the official said. The separatists, under the banner of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), had called for a complete shutdown today to protest the killing of three militants in a gunfight with security forces, and a civilian during clashes between protestors and law enforcing agencies near the encounter site in the Chattabal area of .

Five PLFI militants arrested

Five PLFI militants and two arms suppliers were arrested from the Sarla Marla forest of West Singhbhum district, the police said. Based on a tip-off, security personnel cordoned off the area under Bandgaon police station limit and forced the ultras belonging to the Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) to surrender yesterday, they said. One carbine, one double barrel gun and one pistol besides a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from them. During interrogation a PLFI leader Birsa Purty alias Chattan Singh said that they had come to the forest to collect fire-arms from suppliers and also named them. The ultras had already paid Rs one lakh to the suppliers for the deal, they said. Accordingly, the police conducted raid and arrested two arms suppliers from Chakradharpur and recovered Rs 90,000 which was the part of the advance payment made by the PLFI ultras. Chhattisgarh: Two IEDs planted by Naxals defused

The security forces on Saturday recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that were planted by Naxals in an under-construction health center in Bandaguda Village of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district.Both the IEDs were defused."During operations at around 6:55 am, the security forces recovered two IEDs that were planted by Naxals," officials said.Earlier on May 2, two jawans of Chhattisgarh Police's District Force were killed in an IED blast in Gariaband district while a Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) jawan sustained injuries after an IED blast in Dantewada district on April 29.

France slams Trump for remarks on guns and Paris attacks

France is sternly rejecting US President Donald Trump's argument that if Parisians had more guns they could have stopped the deadly 2015 extremist attacks on the French capital. French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian expressed his "firm disapproval" of Trump's remarks and vigorously defended France's gun controls. Cuba to host Colombia peace talks with ELN rebels

Colombia's government and its last major rebel movement have agreed to continue peace talks in Cuba after Ecuador last month withdrew as host for the negotiations. Peace talks with the National Liberation Army had been taking place in Ecuador for more than a year and have been advancing at a slow pace. The two sides issued a statement today saying the next round of talks will focus on re-establishing a cease-fire that expired in January. Suicide bomb attack kills 2 Afghan border policemen

An Afghan official says that at least two border policemen have been killed after an attack by a group of suicide bombers in the southern province of Kandahar. Gen Abdul Raziq, the provincial police chief, said today's evening attack targeted his house in the Spin Boldak district but that he was not home at the time, and was followed by a gun battle. Raziq added that two other attackers were later shot and killed by police forces during a gun battle in which one policeman was also wounded. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but Taliban insurgents are active in southern Kandahar, especially in Spin Boldak near the border with Pakistan.

Police drives away men creating ruckus at IPL ticket counters

The police drove away some black marketers from the Maidan area today after they created a chaos near the IPL ticket counters. People who had booked their tickets online for the May 9 IPL match between KKR and Mumbai Indians were standing in a queue to collect the physical tickets from the counters, police said. Some black marketers created a ruckus in the area after which the police swung into action to keep things under control, a police officer said. Some people alleged that they had received injuries during police action. However, the police denied any such action. There was no major incident in the Maidan area today, the police officer said.

Cops bust fake job racket; army man, six others in custody

Afghan Forces retake Badakhshan's Kohistan District

Pak Army Chief confirms death sentences for 11 'hardcore terrorists'

Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has confirmed death sentences for 11 "hardcore terrorists", the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, in a statement, on Saturday.Special military courts found them guilty of killing 60 civilians and security forces in recent years.In addition to this, three convicts have also been awarded imprisonment.The killed 60 included, "36 civilians, 24 Armed Forces/Frontier Constabulary/ Police Officials and injuring 142 others," according to a statement issued by Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).The ISPR is the media wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces.All 14 convicts, who were members of banned organisations, admitted their offences were awarded death sentences.The trials are closed to the public but defendants are allowed to hire lawyers, according to the reports.Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession.

Mufti condemns killing of 3 civilians in Kashmir
