Temperature hovers below normal at most places in Pb,Hry

Maximum temperature continued to hover below normal limits at most places in Punjab and Haryana today. The capital of both the states recorded a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius, down two notches against normal limits, the Met Department said. In Haryana, Ambala recorded a high of 36.7 degrees Celsius, down one notch against normal while Karnal's maximum settled at 37 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal limits. Hisar had a hot day at 40.9 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximum temperatures of 36.3 and 36.6 degrees Celsius, down one and two notches respectively. Amritsar's maximum settled at 37.6 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal limits.

Heatwave conditions continue in West Bengal, Bihar

Southern districts of West Bengal, including the metropolis, continued to reel under heatwave conditions today, prompting the government to declare an 11-day holiday for students of state-run schools from tomorrow. The Met Department has forecast similar weather conditions tomorrow with day temperatures hovering around the 40 degree Celsius mark. The city recorded the day's highest temperature at 39.6 degrees Celsius, six notches above normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 30.9 degrees Celsius, four counts above the average, the Met office said. Bankura recorded the highest temperature in the state at 41.8 degrees Celsius, as Diamond Harbour (39.0 deg C), Asansol (40.4 deg C), Burdwan (40.9 deg C) and Sriniketan (41.0 deg C) also recorded unusually high temperatures, settling four to seven degrees above normal. Thunderstorm or dust storm 'very likely' in UP tomorrow

Thunderstorm or dust storm accompanied with squall is "very likely" at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh tomorrow. According to the Meteorological Department, rain or thunderstrom is very likely at isolated places in eastern parts of the state and weather is most likely to remain dry in western parts on Thursday and Friday. Meanwhile, day temperature was above normal in Allahabad, Varanasi, Faizabad, Kanpur and Jhansi divisions yesterday. Allahabad was the hottest place in the state with a high of 45.2 degrees Celsius.

Humid morning in national capital

Delhiites woke up to a humid morning today with the minimum temperature settling at 26.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average. Humidity was recorded at 67 per cent, said a meteorological (Met) department official. The weatherman has predicted clear skies throughout the day with the maximum temperature likely to settle around 39 degrees Celsius. Yesterday, the maximum temperature settled at 36.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.9 degrees Celsius.

Heat wave conditions in Bengal

A heat wave condition after the official advent of Monsoon in the metropolis left citizens reeling as the day temperature soared to 40.6 degree Celsius, seven notches above normal. The Met department said that due to weak monsoon flow and prevailing strong west to northwesterly winds in lower levels, moderate heat wave condition will continue over the districts of Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata for the next two days. Apart from the metropolis, the other places in the southern parts of the state that recorded high day temperatures are Bankura (42.4 degree Celsius), Burdwan (41.8), Purulia (40.7) and Dum dum (40.6). The weatherman in its forecast said that "warm and discomfort weather" will prevail and the maximum temperature tomorrow will be around 41 degree Celsius in the city. 15 places in Odisha record temp above 40 degree Celsius

The mercury level crossed the 40 degree Celsius mark in 15 places in Odisha today, the Met office said. Bhubaneswar was the hottest place in the state for the second consecutive day at 42.2 degree Celsius. Baripada also recorded 42.2 degree Celsius. The other places which recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius were: Talcher (42), Angul (41.9), Chandbali (41.7), Titlagarh (41.5), Balasore (41.2), Bolangir (40.8), Cuttack (40.6), Dhenkanal (40.5), Sambalpur and Sonepur (40.2) and Paradip, Jharsuguda and Hirakud (40.1) each, the Met office said. "Severe heat wave condition will prevail for next 48-hours in parts of Odisha," said H R Biswas, the director of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar. The increase in temperature was because of the "weakened monsoon force", the MeT office said adding it is a temporary phenomenon as high level of temperature would help monsoon to revive. Day after rains, temps dip in Punjab, Haryana

The maximum temperatures in Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh, today hovered below normal limits, a day after the two states were lashed by rains. Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 33.6 degrees Celsius, down five notches against the normal, a Met department report said. In Haryana, Ambala recorded a high of 33.3 degrees Celsius, down five notches against the normal, while Karnal's maximum settled at 32.6 degrees Celsius, five notches below the normal. Hisar recorded a high of 35.5 degrees Celsius, down five degrees, while Bhiwani's maximum settled at 34.8 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximum temperatures of 33.3 and 33.4 degrees Celsius, down four and five notches, respectively. The report said Amritsar's maximum settled at 32.8 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal limits. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places in Punjab and Haryana tomorrow, according to the Met department forecast.

Patna, Gaya records maximum temp above 42 degree Celsius

Major cities of Bihar today sizzled under sweltering heat with the state capital and Gaya recording maximum temperature of above 42 degrees Celsius, the Met department said. The Met bulletin said Gaya recorded the maximum temperature of 42.4 degrees Celsius followed by Patna at 42.2 degrees Celsius, Bhagalpur 38.5 degrees Celsius and Purnea 35.2 degrees Celsius. The Met officials said people of the state will have to wait for another four to five days to get respite from the heat as the southwest monsoon has been delayed by a week or so. The weather forecast said Patna and Gaya are likely to witness partly cloudy sky tomorrow while Bhagalpur and Purnea may witness partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunder or lightning.

Overcast skies over Delhi, temps stay within normal

The national capital today witnessed overcast skies during the day which kept the mercury below the normal level. The maximum temperature settled at 36.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.9 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, a meteorological department official said. Humidity levels oscillated between 71 and 41 per cent. The weatherman has forecast partly cloudy skies along with the possibility of light rain for tomorrow. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 38 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius respectively tomorrow," the MeT office said. Yesterday, the maximum and minimum temperatures settled at 36.8 degrees Celsius and 28.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

No rain in Delhi till next week: IMD

Delhi will not get any respite from the soaring temperatures till next week, India Meteorological Department has forecasted."There's no chance of revival of monsoon in next five to six days. Rainfall will be less than normal. We'll have to wait for a week for further advancement of monsoon. There has been thunderstorm activity in North-West India, it'll continue for 1-2 days," an IMD official, Charan Singh, told ANI.Delhi and adjoining areas may experience sparse rainfall in the next 24 hours.However, IMD said rainfall is likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and northern parts of Punjab and Haryana."Delhi NCR will not experience much activity. In next 24 hours, there can be only sparse rainfall. North Punjab, north Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand will experience rainfall for next two days," Singh added.On Saturday, the IMD issued a warning of thunderstorm accompanied with rain and squally winds in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.

Heave wave condition continues in Odisha

Odisha continued to sizzle under gruelling heat with the temperature soaring above 40 degree Celsius in at least seven places today as monsoon weakened after it hit the state nine days ago. The capital city of Bhubaneswar remained the hottest place in the state recording a maximum temperature of 42.3 degree Celsius, up from 40.2 degree measured yesterday, the Meteorological centre here said. The MeT office warned that heat wave conditions would prevail in several districts of the state in the next two days. While Angul recorded a maximum temperature of 41.3 degree Celsius, the mercury stood at 40.6 degree at Balangir, 40.4 degree Celsius at Baripada, 40.2 degree at Cuttack and Bawanipatna and 40 degree Celsius at Chandbali, it said. "The sudden increase in temperature was because of weakened monsoon force," the MeT office said adding it is a temporary phenomenon as high level of temperature would help monsoon to revive. Though the south-west monsoon hit Odisha on June 8 .

Monsoon is expected to hit Bihar in two to five days

People of Bihar may get respite from the sweltering heat that has singed almost the entire state soon, as the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Bihar within two to five days, the met office said today. The southwest monsoon which normally enters eastern Bihar by June 10 has been delayed by 7-10 days. Cities such as Gaya recorded the highest maximum temperature at 43.3 degrees Celsius followed by Patna at 42.0 degrees Celsius, Bhagalpur 38.6 degrees Celsius and 33.7 degrees Celsius in Purnea, the met bulletin said. The weathermen has also made a forecast for pre- monsoon rains for Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur and Purnea tomorrow. It has forecast that it will be partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunder or lightning accompanied by squall or hail tomorrow in Patna, the bulletin said.
