Heat wave conditions continued to prevail in most parts of the state, with Sriganganagar registering the hottest day at 47.1 degrees Celsius. Alwar recorded the hottest day yesterday at 47 degrees Celsius. Barmer recorded 46.9 degrees Celsius, followed by 46.5 degrees Celsius in Kota, 46.4 degrees Celsius each in Jaisalmer and Churu, 46 degrees Celsius in Bikaner, 45.1 degrees Celsius in Jodhpur, 44.4 degrees Celsius in Ajmer, 44.2 degrees Celsius in Jaipur, 43.5 degrees Celsius in Dabok, 43.2 degree Celsius in Pilani. The Meteorological department has forecast the weather is likely to remain dry in the state in the next 24 hours.

Heat wave conditions prevail in Delhi

The national capital continued to reel under heat wave conditions with the maximum temperature settling at 43.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.2 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, said a Meteorological department official. The humidity oscillated between 60 and 19 per cent, the official said. The Met office has forecast overcast skies, along with the possibility of a dust storm and thunderstorm, towards evening for tomorrow. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 43 and 28 degrees Celsiusrespectively," the weatherman said. Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 44.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled at 26.3 degrees Celsius.

Heat wave continues unabated in Hry, Pb; Hisar hottest at 45.5 deg C

Heat wave sweeping most parts of Haryana and Punjab for the past several days continued unabated today, with Hisar once again turning out to be the hottest place in the two states at 45.5 degrees Celsius. Hisar in Haryana recorded a three degrees above normal maximum temperature, Meteorological Department report said here. Among other places in Haryana, blistering heat swept Bhiwani, which recorded a high of 44 degrees Celsius while Narnaul, too, had a hot day at 43.5 degrees Celsius. Karnal and Ambala, too, reeled under hot weather conditions recording respective maximum temperatures of 42.6 degrees Celsius and 42.8 degrees Celsius, both three notches above normal limits. Heatwave conditions continue to prevail in UP

Heatwave conditions continue to prevail at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh. On Sunday, day temperatures were above normal in Allahabad, Agra, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad and Jhansi, according to the MeT department here. Rains/thunderstorm are likely to occur at isolated places in east Uttar Pradesh on May 29, while the weather is likely to remain dry in west UP, it said. Rain, high speed winds to bring relief for Delhiites

The temperature in the Delhi and National capital region (NCR) is expected to go down in next 48 hours providing much needed relief to residents of the region.Talking to ANI, India Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist Dr Kuldeep Yadav said, "Yesterday's temperature was 45° Celsius, we expect it to lower down to 43° Celsius today in Delhi/NCR. However, due to humidity in the air, discomfort level will remain intact. Southwest Monsoon hits Kerala, says Skymet

The Southwest Monsoon hit Kerala today, marking the arrival of the rainy season in the country, private weather forecasting agency Skymet said. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the country' official weather forecaster, in its 8.15-am bulletin, said Monsoon would hit Kerala in the next 24 hours. "There are Monsoon-like conditions over Kerala and we can say that the annual rainfall season has arrived," Skymet CEO Jatin Singh told PTI. The Skymet, in its forecast, said that Monsoon would hit the Kerala coast on May 28, while the IMD has made a prediction for its arrival on May 29. According to the IMD, if after May 10, 60 per cent of the available 14 stations --Minicoy, Amini, Thiruvananthapuram, Punalur, Kollam, Allapuzha, Kottayam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Thalassery, Kannur, Kudulu and Mangalore -- report rainfall of 2.5 mm or more for two consecutive days, the onset of Monsoon over Kerala can be declared on the 2nd day. The maximum temperature in the state capital touched 41.7 degrees Celsius, with Jhansi registering the hottest place in the state at 46.6 degrees Celsius. According to the meteorological (MeT) department, rain/ thunderstorm are very likely at isolated places over eastern Uttar Pradesh and weather is most likely to remain dry over western UP. Heat wave conditions continued unabated in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh, with Una in the foothills registering the hottest temperature at 43.6 degrees Celsius. Heatwave condition persists in Delhi, mercury touches 44.2C

The prevailing heatwave condition in the national capital today continued as the mercury settled at 44.2 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average. At Palam observatory, the maximum temperature recorded was 45.8C, five notches above the season's average. Yesterday, the Safdarjung observatory, whose recording is considered official for the city, registered a maximum temperature of 45C, the highest this summer. No respite from scorching heat in Raj; Barmer hottest at 46.5 deg C

There was no respite from scorching heat in the desert state of Rajasthan where Barmer was recorded as the hottest place at 46.5 degrees Celsius. The mercury at Kota, Churu and Bikaner was at 45.9, 45.8 and 45.5 degrees Celsius respectively while Jaipur and Sriganganagar recorded 44.5 degrees Celsius. Jammu records hottest day, night temperatures

Blistering heat swept the winter capital Jammu as the city of temples reeled under heat wave conditions, recording the hottest day and night of the season. The maximum temperature recorded in Jammu was 42.5 degrees Celsius the highest this season which is 3.4 degrees above normal during this part of the season, a spokesperson of the Meteorological (MeT) department said. IMD teams up with BSNL to send extreme weather warnings

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is teaming up with state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to send extreme weather warnings to people, a senior Ministry of Earth Sciences official said. The move comes after the IMD came under criticism from several quarters, including some state governments for not sending out specific alerts, a charge denied by the weather body. The IMD is trying to team up with BSNL to push the alerts to common people. The BSNL has come up with a technology. If the IMD sends an alert, they will pass it on to all BSNL numbers in Delhi (about an impending extreme weather event warning like thunderstorm, dust storm, heatwave), M Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences told PTI.
