Delhi maximum temperature rises to 39 deg C

The mercury maintained an upward trend with the maximum temperature being recorded at 39 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season's average, in the national capital. The minimum temperature settled at 23 degrees Celsius, four notches above the normal, said a Meteorological Department official. The humidity oscillated between 80 and 30 per cent. The weather department has forecast overcast skies for tomorrow. "The maximum and minimum are likely to hover at 38 and 22 degrees respectively," the weatherman said. Yesterday, the maximum and minimum temperatures had settled at 38.6 and 21.4 degrees Celsius.

Heat wave condition prevails in Raj's Bikaner division

Severe heat wave conditions continued in Rajasthan's Bikaner division, where Churu was the hottest place in the state registering a day temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius. Churu is closely followed by Barmer which sizzled at 41.4 degrees Celsius, the MeT department said. Blistering heat affected normal life in other parts of the state also. Bikaner and Jaisalmer each recorded a high of 41 degrees Celsius, while Kota, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Pilani and Sriganganagar registered maximum temperatures of 40.7 degrees Celsius, 40.5 degrees Celsius, 39.9 degrees Celsius, 39.1 degrees Celsius and 39 degree Celsius respectively. The weatherman has predicted heat wave conditions for some pars of Jaipur and Bikaner divisions till tomorrow.

Expect 'normal' southwest monsoon, says Skymet

The country is likely to witness a "normal" southwest monsoon, private weather forecasting agency Skymet said in its forecast today. However, the southern peninsula and major portions of northeast India are likely to witness "below normal" rainfall this season, it said in a statement. "India is most likely to witness normal annual Monsoon rains at 100 per cent of the Long Period Average (LPA)," it said. The monsoon is considered 'normal' if the average rainfall is between 96-104 per cent of LPA. Anything less than 90 per cent of LPA is termed a "deficient" monsoon, and 90-96 per cent of LPA is considered "below normal". There is only 20 per cent chance of above normal monsoon rains, 20 per cent chance of below normal rains and zero per cent chance of a drought, Skymet said. At 38.6 degrees Celsius, Jhansi hottest place in UP

Jhansi was recorded as the hottest place in Uttar Pradesh with the maximum temperature touching 38.6 degrees Celsius. On Monday, the day temperature was above normal in Agra, Moradabad and Meerut, according to the Met department here. The weather is most likely to remain dry over east Uttar Pradesh on April 5 and rain/thundershowers are likely at isolated places over east UP on April 6. KCR instructs officials to be alert to deal with rain situation

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday instructed officials concerned to be on high alert as the state is experiencing widespread rain and thunderstorms with hails.The Chief Minister instructed officials to make estimates of the crops losses due to the rain and hail storms. It was a hot day today in the national capital with the mercury rising three degrees above normal at 36.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature settled at 20.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal. The humidity oscillated between 71 and 33 per cent, a Met department official said. Blistering heat continued to affect normal life in parts of desert state of Rajasthan, with Jaisalmer being the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 42.7 degrees Celsius. Normal life was thrown out of gear in parts of Rajasthan where mercury soared to 43.2 degrees Celsius in Barmer. Heat wave conditions prevailed in the Jodhpur and Bikaner division. The Met department today warned of severe thunderstorms with wind speed reaching up to 65 to 70 kilometre per hour in large parts of West Bengal till Sunday. Heavy rain accompanied with hailstorm, high winds with speed reaching up to 70 km per hour are likely to affect the districts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal today. "Thundersquall accompanied with wind speed between 55 to 65 km per hour is very likely to prevail over the districts of Bankura, Birbhum, East and West Bardhman, Murshidabad, Nadia, Jhargram, Purulia, East and West Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata and North and South 24 Parganas of south West Bengal on Saturday and Sunday," Regional Met Director G K Das said.
