Delhi residents on Thursday experienced a respite from heat with a drop in temperature, with the maximum recorded at 32.4 degrees Celsius that is three notches above the season's average.
Several parts of Himachal were lashed by a severe thunderstorm, accompanied by hail and intermittent rains. The high altitude tribal areas had another spell of fresh snow while widespread rains occurred in mid and lower hills, causing sharp fall in day temperatures. The Rohtang Pass recorded 15 cm of snow, obstructing the road clearance work while Koksar and Kalpa recorded 9 cm and 8 cm fresh snow. Manali received 20 mm rains, followed by Chamba (18 mm), Kothi and Dalhousie (15 mm), Tikrigarh (14 mm), Bharmaur (12 mm), Kangra (11 mm), Bhuntar (10 mm), Kufri (8 mm), Kufri (7 mm), Sundernagar (7 mm), Mandi (6 mm) and Shimla (5 mm). The maximum temperature in Una and Solan settled at 26.2 and 27.1 degrees Celsius respectively. Heavy rains lashed three southern districts of Tamil Nadu today under the influence of a depression in the South-East Arabian sea. The districts of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari were battered by the rains for the second straight day. Several main streets were flooded and rain water entered shops and houses in some low-lying localities in the three districts, officials said. Tourists have been banned from taking bath in the famous Coutralam water falls in Tirunelveli district in view of heavy flow. The water falls, almost dry till two days ago, was in torrents following the sudden rains in the western ghats in the region. The rains also damaged paddy crops which were ready for harvest in Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts, officials said. The catchment areas of Papanasam dam also received copious rains. The weather office has forecast more rains in the next two days in southern Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep in view of the depression.
Rains in plains and fresh snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir today brought down day temperature across the Valley by several degrees. Intermittent rains lashed most parts of the Kashmir Valley since early morning while the higher reaches received fresh snowfall, officials said. Kupwara, which received 12.8 mm of rains from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, recorded a maximum temperature of 7.2 degrees Celsius against a normal of 14.2 degrees Celsius for this time of the year, an official of the MeT department said. According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar recorded a high of 11 degrees Celsius and received 1.3 mm rainfall during the day. The other weather stations in the Valley, including in Gulmarg and Pahalgam, also recorded a drop of maximum temperatures by around three degrees. The weatherman has forecast more rains in the Valley in the next two days.

Albania's Defense Ministry says four climbers are trapped by snow and ice on a southern mountain. Spokeswoman Albania Qehajaj today said the four Albanians are on the Sotir mountain, 270 kilometers (170 miles) south of the capital, Tirana, close to the Greek border. After their cell phone call early morning an army helicopter was sent to pick them up, but was unable to land. Special police and army forces will now go on foot to attempt to rescue the climbers. Minimum temperatures dropped across Himachal Pradesh by two to three degree as higher reaches and tribal belt experienced fresh snowfall while mid and lower hills had scattered rains.
