Biting cold wave condition tightens grip on Himachal

Biting cold wave conditions further tightened its grip as minimum temperatures dropped by a few notches in the state while maximum temperatures fluctuated marginally. The local MeT office has warned of heavy rains and snow at isolated places in the mid and high hills on Sunday and Monday. Keylong, in tribal Lahaul and Spiti, was the coldest during the day with minus 7.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Kalpa at minus 3 degrees Celsius, Manali at minus 1 degree Celsius, Solan at 1.5 degrees Celsius, and Shimla, Bilaspur and Sundernagar at 2.1 degrees Celsius each, while Bhuntar and Palampur recorded 3 degrees Celsius each. Hamirpur recorded 4 degrees Celsius during the day, followed by Una at 5.2 degrees Celsius and Nahan at 6.4 degrees Celsius. Cold weather conditions continue in Pb, Hry; Adampur coldest

Adampur shivered at a minimum temperature of 2.9 degrees Celsius today as the ongoing cold weather conditions continued unabated at most places in Punjab and neighbouring Haryana. Adampur in Punjab was the coldest place in the two states, a Meteorological official said. Bathinda also reeled at a low of 3.5 degrees Celsius. Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala also recorded below normal minimums at 3.8 degrees Celsius, 5.6 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively. Halwara and Pathankot, too, experienced the cold weather conditions recording respective lows of 5.4 degrees Celsius and 5.1 degrees Celsius. Very light rainfall occurs at isolated places over eastern UP

Very light rainfall occurred at isolated places over eastern Uttar Pradesh, while the weather was dry over the western parts of the state. According to the meteorological (MeT) department, the day temperatures were below normal in Allahabad, Faizabad, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Jhansi yesterday. The night temperatures were below normal in Bareilly, Faizabad, Allahabad, Lucknow, Moradabad and Meerut. The lowest minimum temperature in the state was 3.7 degrees Celsius, recorded at Muzaffarnagar. The MeT department has forecast that weather is most likely to remain dry over the state on February 10, and rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at isolated places over the state on February 11.

Bathinda shivered at 2.4 degrees Celsius today as cold wave conditions continued to prevail at most places in Punjab and neighbouring Haryana. Himachal reels under intense cold as minimum temperatures drop

Intense cold wave conditions sweeping most parts of Himachal Pradesh further intensified as minimum temperatures dropped by few notches. Keylong was the coldest in the region with a low of minus 8.0 degrees Celsius, while Manali and Kalpa recorded minimum temperatures at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius and minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, respectively, followed by Bhuntar at 1.8 degrees Celsius, Solan at 2.0 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar at 2.3 degrees Celsius, Shimla at 4.0 degrees Celsius, Una at 4.6 degrees Celsius, Palampur at 5.6 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala at 7.4 degrees Celsius and Nahan at 8.4 degrees Celsius. The local MeT office predicted rains or snow in mid and higher hills tomorrow and again on Friday due to a fresh western disturbance. It forecast dry weather in the rest of the state. However, maximum temperatures remained steady in mid and lower hills while tribal areas recorded marginal rise in day temperatures.

Punjab, Haryana under cold grip; Adampur shivers at 2.3 deg C

Cold weather conditions continued to prevail at most places in Punjab and neighbouring Haryana as Adampur shivered at a minimum temperature of 2.3 degrees Celsius today. Amritsar, Bathinda and Faridkot recorded a low of 4.8 degrees, 3.7 degrees and 4 degrees Celsius, respectively. Halwara and Pathankot recorded the respective minimum temperature at 5.5 degrees and 5.1 degrees Celsius, a MeT official said. In Punjab, Ludhiana, Patiala and Gurdaspur recorded 5.8 degrees, 6.6 degrees and 6 degrees Celsius, he said. Hisar was the coldest place in Haryana recording a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius. Karnal registered a low of 4.5 degrees, while Narnaul's temperature settled at 5.5 degrees, he said. Sirsa, Bhiwani and Ambala also recorded below normal minimum temperatures at 4.7 degrees, 6 degrees and 8.3 degrees Celsius, respectively. Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a low of 6.7 degrees Celsius, the weatherman added.

It was sunny day with cloudy patches in Delhi today with the maximum temperature settling at 22.7 degrees Celsius, a notch below the average, a MeT department official said. The minimum temperature was recorded at 11.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, the official said. The humidity oscillated between 91 and 32 per cent. The Met office has forecast a clear sky tomorrow along with mist in the morning. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 23 and 8 degrees respectively," the official said. Yesterday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius while the maximum settled at 23.7 degrees Celsius.

The tribal areas and higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh witnessed intermittent snowfall while the mid and lower hills of the state received rains leading to drop in mercury. Pooh and Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district received 8 cm and 4 cm of snow respectively, while Khadrala received 1 cm of snow. Rains lashed parts of Kinnair and Shimla district. Sarahan gauged 14 mm of rainfall and Reckong Peo received 2 mm of rains. Minimum temperatures decreased by 1 to 2 degrees and Keylong in tribal Lahaul and Spiti was coldest at night at minus 2.7 degrees Celsius while by Kalpa recorded a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius. Delhi residents get respite from cold as minimum temp rises

Delhiites got some respite from cold this morning with the minimum temperature settling at 11 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal for the season, a MeT official said. "The minimum temperature was recorded at 8.30 AM at 11 degrees. Yesterday, it settled at 6.3 degrees," the official said. The humidity was recorded at 72 per cent. The weatherman has forecast partially overcast conditions for the day with a possibility of mist and shallow fog tomorrow morning. Maximum and minimum temperatures tomorrow are likely to hover around 23 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively.
