B'luru water woes: Citizens in tech capital get innovative to tackle crisis

From exploring work from home (WFH) option and shifting to a place with better water facilities and taking bath on alternate days--citizens of India's tech capital are trying every possible thing to deal with an unprecedented water crisis that has gripped the city. The woes have become a serious issue of concern for Bengalureans , especially in Whitefield, KR Puram, Electronic City, RR Nagar, Kengeri and CV Raman Nagar. TCS chief says no cutting down on hiring, but wants to end work from home

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Tuesday ruled out cutting down on hiring, saying it has no plans of doing so but it may have to pace hiring according to the evolving demand scenario. TCS is the largest Indian software exporter in terms of headcount, revenue and profit. The statement comes amidst a report that the software industry is going soft on hiring as demand falters from their key markets and some of them are even going back on their campus offers. Last week, the industry body Nasscom said the industry added only 60,000 jobs in FY2023-24, taking the overall headcount to 5.43 million. "As we are already seeing some green-shoots in the economy we need more people for more work. In fact, we have no plans to reduce our hiring plans and will continue to hire the same way as we have been doing. Probably we will have to change the hiring phase, but no cutting down on our hiring plans, for sure," TCS chief executive K Krithivasan said in a Nasscom session here. TCS employs more t

HCLTech tells DFS employees to report to office 3 times in a week

HCL Technologies has asked all employees who are part of Digital Foundation Services (DFS) to come to office at least three days a week beginning February 19, according to a communication by Noida-headquartered IT company. The move comes at a time when more and more tech companies are shifting to workplace-based models, insisting that employees be physically present in the office cubicles for a certain number of days every week to enhance teamwork, facilitate face-to-face interactions, and strengthen workplace culture. As such, senior managers and leadership team in DFS (those above a certain position and level) have transitioned to a hybrid model and work from office at least three days in a week. The recent communication states that from February 19, the same hybrid work model will be applicable to all employees of DFS. All DFS employees, irrespective of their band, will be required to work from their designated HCLTech offices for a minimum of three days in a week, the memo said,
