Kejriwal accuses Congress and BJP of playing dirty politics

Amritsar, April 11 (ANI): AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal, during a road show in Amritsar on Friday, accused the ruling Congress party and the BJP of playing dirty politics and sticking to the seat of power while trying to topple his AAP government in Delhi. He also said that AAP had no other option than leaving the government as both Congress and BJP were behind them, not allowing any proper functioning of their government and passage of important bills. Kejriwal further added that to save the nation both the prime ministerial candidates BJP's Narendra Modi and Congress' Rahul Gandhi have to be driven out of the country. Kejriwal was holding a road show in Amritsar to support his candidate, Dr. Daljit Singh, who is contesting from the city.

Rahul Gandhi takes on Narendra Modi over his marital status

Doda, April 11 (ANI): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday assailed BJP's PM candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for not revealing his marital status till filing his nomination from Vadodara. Rahul said that Modi should not be talking about respecting women of the country if he cannot give respect to his own wife.

Girls having sex before marriage should be punished, restates Abu Azmi

Mumbai, April 11 (ANI): After Mulayam Singh Yadav sparked controversy on Thursday by questioning the amended anti-rape law and the death sentence for rapists, Maharashtra Samajwadi Party chief Abu Azmi came up with another outrageous comment saying irrespective of consent any woman having sex with a man should be hanged. Restating his stand Azmi on Friday said that no one will like it if an unmarried couple is living together and having sex before marriage and they should be punished.

Women activists condemn Mulayam's remark on rape law

New Delhi/ Lucknow/ Patna, April 11 (ANI): Women activists on Friday condemned SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's remark on rape law wherein he said that it was unfair to award death penalty to rapists for their 'mistakes'. AIWC President Shobha Oza said that it is unfortunate and that rape is a heinous crime and that there should be no leniency towards rapists. AIMWPLB Chairperson Shaista Amber said that the statement is shocking and that Election Commission should take action against such act. Further, Women's Rights Campaigner Kavita Krishnan said that Yadav is trivializing rape and that there should be a model code of conduct on such statements.

Delhi gang rape victim's parents condemn Mulayam for defending rapists

New Delhi, April 11 (ANI): The parents of Delhi gang rape victim condemned Samajwadi Party Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's comment that three rape convicts sentenced to death in Mumbai "made a mistake" and did not deserve to be hanged. The victim's mother said that rape is not a mistake by any chance and that it is just a crime. Further, her father said that Yadav is from SP and is also a prime ministerial candidate from the party and such remarks from political leaders would encourage the criminals and demotivate women of the society. They also appealed the people not to vote for such politicians who have such negative ideas about women security.

LS polls: Voting commences in Mizoram for single seat

Mizoram, April 11 (ANI): Voting for a single Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram constituency began on Friday, for which additional eight companies of central para-military forces have been deployed. The Mizoram Lok Sabha seat is witnessing a three-cornered contest between the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and the United Democratic Front which is an alliance of eight opposition parties. An electorate of 7,02,189, of whom 3,55,954 are women are eligible to cast votes in 1,126 polling stations. In 385 polling stations, mainly in urban areas, the VVPAT system, under which a paper trail would show the voters their choice of candidates, has been installed.

TMC workers attack EC officials in Malda, party says it respects EC

Kolkata, April 11 (ANI): A group of Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers on Thursday attacked Election Commission officials in the Manikchak area of Malda Dakshin constituency of the state. The attack reportedly occurred when the officials tried to stop a two-wheeler rally of the party as such rallies have been banned by the poll panel. They also allegedly damaged a video camera when the officials were trying to take pictures of the rally. The TMC has however, said that it respects the Election Commission and knows the rule of the game. TMC leader Derek O' Brien said that they will comment on the incident once they get full information.

People in Kashmir vote in third phase of world's biggest election

Rajouri, Jammu, Poonch, April 10 (ANI): People in Jammu and Kashmir lined up outside polling booths to cast their votes as third phase of world's biggest election kicked off on Thursday. Security forces have stepped up measures to protect voters in the province. A young and enthusiastic first-time voter from Jammu district, Radhika, said she would vote for someone who works for welfare of youth. Voting takes place amid heavy security in Maoist-inflicted areas

Gumla / Kandhamal /Gaya / Gadchiroli, April1 10 (ANI): Braving the outlawed rebels, people in Maoist-hit areas came out and voted as third phase of general election began on Thursday. Security forces have stepped up measures to protect voters. Security personnel and police officials manned polling booths in Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and Maharashtra. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), also ensured smooth elections and encouraged more and more number of voters to participate in world's biggest elections. Voters lined up outside polling booths, who were waiting for their turn, to vote eagerly. Election panel chief urges people to vote

New Delhi, Apr 10 (ANI): Chief Election Commissioner of India, VS Sampath, on Thursday urged people to vote as the third phase of the nine phases of 16th LS polls began today. Sampath said it is a big day for India's democracy. The elections to choose members to the 543-seat Lok Sabha, or House of the People, will be spread over five weeks in nine separate phases and will end on May 12. Results would be announced on May 16.
