Hyderabad, May 18 (ANI): Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrashekar Rao, on Sunday staked claim to form his government in Telangana, which would come into existence on June 01, after winning the general election. Present southern state of Andhra Pradesh will be split into Telangana and Seemandhra on June 01, as per the parliament law. Rao met Andhra Pradesh Governor Ekkadu S. L. Narasimhan and formally informed about his election as the legislature party leader and introduced the newly elected legislators in Hyderabad. TRS won 62 seats in 117-member Telangana assembly. A TRS leader, E. Rajender, said they would have better relation with the central government.
Chennai, May 18 (ANI): Taking a U-turn, DMK Treasurer and party chief M Karunanidhi's son MK Stalin withdrew his resignation on Sunday, said party leader Durai Murugan. Taking moral responsibility for the party's defeat in the hands of AIADMK in 2014 general elections, Stalin had submitted his resignation to the party. Stalin took the decision after party leaders convinced him on the same and said that hard times will be dealt with by all party workers together.

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): The Election Commission on Sunday submitted the list of newly elected members of the 16th Lok Sabha to President Pranab Mukherjee. A three-member EC team headed by Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath handed over the list containing the names of all 543 Members of Parliament to the President. Talking to the mediapersons, Sampath said that President congratulated the poll panel and voters of the country who made the democratic exercise meaningful and said that it was one of the best democratic exercise taken place in the whole world.

Patna, May 18 (ANI): Nitish Kumar's resignation as the Bihar Chief Minister has set the stage for an overhaul of alliances in the state Assembly. According to reports, the JD (U) is in talks with its arch rival RJD. Reacting over this, RJD Chief Lalu Yadav on Sunday denied the reports and said that such reports are baseless and concocted. He added that JD (U) chief Sharad Yadav has not spoken to him. He also said that it is JD (U)'s internal matter to decide who will be the next Bihar CM after Nitish's resignation. However, Lau said that his party is keeping a watch on the situation.
Patna, May 18 (ANI): A day after Nitish Kumar resigned as the chief minister of Bihar taking responsibility for the bad performance of JD (U) in the state, his party leaders on Sunday staged a protest outside his house in Patna asking him to continue as their leader and retract his resignation. Earlier, JD (U) President Sharad Yadav said that his party MLAs will elect a new leader to end the political uncertainty in the state after a party meeting at 4:00 pm on Sunday. The statement from Yadav came amid reports that the party may consider taking support from Lalu Prasad Yadav-led RJD to form the government. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar had said that he has made up his mind to vacate official residence and will shift to a nearby house and will not withdraw his resignation.

Khan said there is no question of Akhilesh resigning from his post like Bihar's Nitish Kumar as the two governments are very different from each other.

Varanasi, May 18 (ANI): In spiritually charged atmosphere of the temple town of Varanasi, victorious BJP leader Narendra Modi said that he was indebted to people of the town for their love and support even when he was gagged and not allowed to speak to his electorate in the run up to polls. The PM designate also vowed to clean Varanasi and turn into India's cultural capital.
New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): Politicos react over Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's resignation from his post on moral grounds after perceiving General Election results in which JD (U) performed badly. LJP Chief Ram Vilas Paswan said that it was the only option left with Kumar as he did not receive majority in these General Elections. He added that his party LJP is prepared for the next elections to be held six months later. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that if Nitish Kumar had been with NDA, he would not have seen such bad days. He further said that like Kumar, Maharashtra CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan should also resign on moral grounds respecting the decision of people as Congress did not do well in that state too.
VARANASI, May 17 (ANI): Narendra Modi on his visit to Varanasi attended the Ganga aarti on the banks of the river Ganga at the Dashashwamedh Ghat. The venue of the Maha Arti ceremony, had been spruced up with flowers and banners, red carpets had been laid out, a large canopy had been erected, and beautifully-decorated boats had been placed all along the ghat. BJP President Rajnath Singh and leader Amit Shah were also present along with Modi at the ghat.
Patna, May 17 (ANI): Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday submitted his resignation to Governor DY Patil, in wake of the JD (U)'s rout in the Lok Sabha elections. Kumar while informing this, in a press conference, said that he has, however, not recommended dissolution of Vidhan Sabha.

Singh made history, becoming India's first Prime Minister from a minority community - he is a Sikh- and serving for longer than anyone other than a Nehru-Gandhi leader. Amethi, May 16 (ANI): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi won in his Amethi constituency in Lok Sabha Polls. Rahul won with a margin of nearly 1.07 lakh votes defeating BJP's Smriti Irani and AAP's Kumar Vishwas. Gandhi had won the seat in 2009 by a margin of over 3.70 lakh votes. The Amethi battle seemed tough with strong candidates put up by all the major parties. Although Congress Party has observed a poor performance in these General Elections, party's President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi have managed to grab their constituencies.

Nilekani accepted his defeat and said that he will continue to work for Bangalore.
