Monsoon for NCR late by 10-15 days: Skymet

New Delhi, June 05 (ANI): Samar Chaudhary, Meteorologist at Skymet, on Wednesday informed that the monsoon is expected to make fall in Kerala within next 48 hours. He also informed that the Delhi and its adjoining regions have to wait for monsoon as it may be delayed by 10-15 days. Chaudhary also emphasized this year monsoon will be weak as compared to previous years.

Three die in bus accident in J and K Udhampur

Udhampur (J and K), Jun 05 (ANI): In a tragic road mishap, at least three people died while five were injured as an over speeding mini bus turned turtle. The incident occurred on Dhar Road of Udhampur district in J and K. Police rushed to the spot. The injured were taken to district hospital in Udhampur for treatment. Police have registered the case. Further investigation is underway.

'Treat nature as mother,' Baba Ramdev's message on World Environment Day

Mumbai, Jun 05 (ANI): On the occasion of World Environment Day, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev urged people to treat nature as mother. Reminding Indian culture, he said that people shouldn't do anything which causes harm to nature. "People shouldn't use things which are not needed," he added. World Environment Day is celebrated on the 5th of June every year, and is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

2019 is the second driest year in last 65 years: Skymet

New Delhi, Jun 05 (ANI): Samar Chaudhary, meteorologist at Skymet, on Wednesday shared information on monsoon. Reacting on delay in monsoon, he said, "This is the second driest year in last 65 years, normal rainfall for pre-monsoon is 131.5 mm whereas the recorded rainfall is 99 mm. This condition is due to the prevailing El Nino over the areas which will affect the landfall of monsoon."

Sakshi Maharaj visits rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar in jail

Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Jun 05 (ANI): The BJP MP from Unnao, Sakshi Maharaj visited rape case accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar at Sitapur Jail in Uttar Pradesh, today. While speaking to ANI, Sakshi Maharaj said, "He has been lodged here for a long time, I came to meet him, to thank him after the elections." Kuldeep Singh Sengar is the main accused in the Unnao rape case. The accused allegedly raped 17-year-old girl in June 2017.

Nanda Devi rescue op: Weather condition hampering search operation, says Pithoragarh DM

Pithoragarh/Onboard (Uttarakhand), Jun 05 (ANI): After four ITBP trekkers and five IAF personnel returned empty handed, in a ALH helicopter, from their search operation of four missing foreign tourists en route Nanda Devi East peak in Uttarakhand, Vijay Kumar Jogdande, District Magistrate of Pithoragarh, said the rescue operation will be done with a different plan as weather conditions didn't let the helicopter operate. Jogdande added that the rescue team will be a given a time of 3-4 days to regroup themselves with the weather and height conditions of the location.

NMCG organises World Environment Day under Clean Ganga Mission

New Delhi, Jun 05 (ANI): To mark the World Environment Day, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) organised a day-long convention to discuss the ways to protect Ganga river and its tributaries. Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who graced the occasion, laid emphasis on the conservation of rivers as it provides many resources for the livelihood. In order to increase public participation in Namami Gange program and encourage the youth, the NMCG had organized Ganga Quest, a pan India bilingual quiz.The winners of the quiz were awarded with exciting prizes and certificates in the event which were given away by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in presence of officials from the National Mission for Clean Ganga. Rajasthan boy tops NEET 2019

Jaipur (Rajasthan), Jun 05 (ANI): A boy from Jaipur, Nalin Khandelwal is the all India topper in NEET exam. Nalin scored 701 marks out of the total 720 marks. He shared his joy by saying, "I am very happy for securing first rank." Nalin used to study for eight hours every day. Bhavik Bansal from Delhi secured 700 marks. Third topper Akshat Kaushik, who scored 700 marks, is from Uttar Pradesh.

PM grieves over the death of Veteran actor Dinyar Contractor

New Delhi, Jun 05 (ANI): Veteran actor and Padma Shri award winner Dinyar Contractor passed away on Wednesday due to age-related ailments. He was 79. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Contractor as a versatile actor and lamented on his demise. The Prime Minister also shared a photo shaking hands with the actor. Dinyar Contractor's last rites will be performed later this Wednesday at Worli Crematorium. The actor was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, on Republic Day this year. Known for his comedy, he worked in several shows, among those the most loved ones are 'Khichdi' and 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah'. Contractor also performed on stage and worked in a few Tollywood and Gujarati films. He gained popularity by working in films like 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke', 'Baadshah' and '36 China Town'. Starting acting at school, he began his professional career in 1966.

Karnataka village restores water body, sets example for others

Shivamogga (Karnataka), June 05 (ANI): Even as the country is reeling under intense heat wave which has resulted in several water bodies drying up, locals of Vitagondana Koppa village in Karnataka's Shivamogga have set an example of water conservation for other villages. The people of Vitagondana Koppa village have successfully restored the village water tank with the help of government assistance and crowd funding, and since 2011, they have not faced a single drought situation. Shivanadappa, a retired accountant from the village, deposited three lakh rupees from his pension to get government approval for the restoration of the water body under the World Bank-assisted 'Jalasamvardhane' scheme in 2011, and cut to 2019, the tank is fulfilling all the needs of the village including live stocks.

Condition of patient suffering from Nipah virus is stable: Kerala Health Minister

Kochi (Kerala), Jun 05 (ANI): Recently, a 23-year-old college student was tested positive for Nipah virus in Kerala's Ernakulam. The centre rushed a team of doctors to the state for investigation. Nipah virus, which killed 17 people in Kerala last year, is transmitted from animals to humans, causing respiratory illness. While speaking to ANI, Health Minister KK Shailaja in Kerala said, "The patient who has been admitted to the hospital is stable now. Only five patients are admitted to isolation ward, including the one who has been tested positive".

O Panneerselvam pays floral tributes to Jayalalithaa, MG Ramachandran
