Poonch (JandK), Jun 05 (ANI): Indian Army celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with civilians in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district on Wednesday. They greeted each other and shared special delicacies. Eid-ul-Fitr is the most important festival in the Islamic calendar. It celebrated after the conclusion of holy month of Ramadan.
Pali (Rajasthan), Jun 05 (ANI): A minor boy in Rajasthan's Pali was beaten up by locals for allegedly molesting a girl. While speaking to ANI, a Police official said, "The boy was caught doing objectionable act with priest's daughter. A case was registered under POCSO act against him. After probe, he was sent to juvenile protection home. A viral video has come to light where locals can be seen beating him, they've been taken on remand".
New Delhi, Jun 05 (ANI): Veteran actor and Padma Shri award winner Dinyar Contractor passed away on Wednesday due to age-related ailments. He was 79. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Contractor as a versatile actor and lamented on his demise. The Prime Minister also shared a photo shaking hands with the actor. Dinyar Contractor's last rites will be performed later this Wednesday at Worli Crematorium. The actor was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, on Republic Day this year. Known for his comedy, he worked in several shows, among those the most loved ones are 'Khichdi' and 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah'. Contractor also performed on stage and worked in a few Tollywood and Gujarati films. He gained popularity by working in films like 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke', 'Baadshah' and '36 China Town'. Starting acting at school, he began his professional career in 1966.
Shivamogga (Karnataka), June 05 (ANI): Even as the country is reeling under intense heat wave which has resulted in several water bodies drying up, locals of Vitagondana Koppa village in Karnataka's Shivamogga have set an example of water conservation for other villages. The people of Vitagondana Koppa village have successfully restored the village water tank with the help of government assistance and crowd funding, and since 2011, they have not faced a single drought situation. Shivanadappa, a retired accountant from the village, deposited three lakh rupees from his pension to get government approval for the restoration of the water body under the World Bank-assisted 'Jalasamvardhane' scheme in 2011, and cut to 2019, the tank is fulfilling all the needs of the village including live stocks.
Kochi (Kerala), Jun 05 (ANI): Recently, a 23-year-old college student was tested positive for Nipah virus in Kerala's Ernakulam. The centre rushed a team of doctors to the state for investigation. Nipah virus, which killed 17 people in Kerala last year, is transmitted from animals to humans, causing respiratory illness. While speaking to ANI, Health Minister KK Shailaja in Kerala said, "The patient who has been admitted to the hospital is stable now. Only five patients are admitted to isolation ward, including the one who has been tested positive".
Rameswaram (TN), Jun 05 (ANI): A human chain was formed on the occasion of World Environment Day in TN's Rameswaram on Wednesday. It was formed outside the memorial of former president APJ Abdul Kalam. The main aim of the chain was to create awareness among public about the healthy environment. World Environment Day is celebrated on June 05 every year.
New Delhi, Jun 05 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday visited at the residence of Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. They both greeted each other. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and National Spokesperson Meenakashi Lekhi was also present at his residence. Earlier, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also met Naqvi and wished him on the occasion. Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across the country today.
New Delhi, Jun 05 (ANI): As the nation celebrates World Environment Day today, the Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Babul Supriyo came out and said, "We are the solution to the pollution. We cannot change the extreme conditions only by celebrating environment day instead we need to make it a part of our mind frame". He also added, "Though we are one of the few countries in the world with a larger forest area but we are definitely not doing enough to save our environment".
Chennai, Jun 05 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his son Raveendranath Kumar paid a floral tribute to Jayalalithaa and MG Ramachandran on Wednesday. Both deceased memorial located at Marina Beach in Chennai. Floral tributes were paid and pledges were taken by AIADMK leaders and workers at her memorial. Jayalalithaa died of cardiac arrest on December 05, 2016.
Kolkata, Jun 05 (ANI): While addressing a public gathering in Kolkata on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wished Eid-ul-Fitr to the people of West Bengal. In her speech, she hit out at Oppositions and said, "Tyaag ka naam hai Hindu, Imaan ka naam hai Musalman, Pyaar ka naam hai Isaai, Sikhon ka naam hai Balidan. Ye hai hamara pyaara Hindustan. Iski raksha humlog karenge. Jo humse takraega wo choor choor ho jaega. Ye hamara slogan hai". She further added, "There is nothing to be scared. Muddai Lakh bura chahe to kya hota hai, wahi hota hai jo manzoor-e-khuda hota hai. Sometimes when the sun rises, its rays are very harsh but later it fades away. Don't be scared, the faster they captured EVMs, the quicker they will go away."
Srinagar (J and K), Jun 05 (ANI): A massive clash erupted after Eid prayers in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar on Wednesday. Stones were pelted at security forces near Jamia Masjid. Stone pelters were seen wearing mask at the time of incident. The posters supporting terrorist Zakir Musa and UN designated terrorist Masood Azhar were seen in the area.

While speaking to ANI, she said, "Because of increasing pollution we have initiated a step to plant a sapling. On Rahul Gandhi's birthday also we will plant saplings and inform and involve Delhi people to do the same." On question about Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's free bus or metro rides for women, Dikshit said, "It would be good if they can do it.
