While speaking to ANI, he said, "I didn't even campaign for the party during Lok Sabha elections. I don't doubt High Command; they had given me an opportunity by making me the Leader of Opposition. I tried to do good work but the situation made me resign."

Para-teacher attempts self-immolation in Dhanbad

Dhanbad (Jharkhand), June 04 (ANI): Jharkhand Police foiled a self-immolation attempt by a para-teacher in Dhanbad. Mohammed S Sheikh poured kerosene on himself outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner. Sheikh took the decision allegedly over the delay in salary payment. Sheikh said that para-teachers in Jharkhand had remained unpaid for several months despite an agreement between the state government and DDPTA over payment.

Kolkata, Jun 04 (ANI): While speaking to ANI, National General Secretary of BJP Kailash Vijayvargiya criticised Mamata Banerjee for losing her calm over the recent chants of 'Jai Shri Ram' in the state. He added, "We also said 'Jai Bangla' and 'Jai Hind' as we don't have any problem with it. It is all same for us. Mamata Banerjee became the Chief Minister because of EVMs only. When she wins then EVMs are good but when she loses then she starts claiming that EVMs have been tampered. She has never fulfilled promises made to the state. She said she will send people behind chit fund scam to jail but in reality did nothing. People want to eliminate violence from West Bengal and only BJP can do that".

Gehlot has made his way to the Narendra Modi cabinet for a second consecutive time. Gehlot was appointed as the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment during the Modi government's first stint in 2014.

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), Jun 04 (ANI): Sea conditions in Gulf of Mannar were rough ahead of monsoon arrival. Southwest monsoon is very active in the region. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough tides. Strong wind with speed reaching 35-40 kmph was predicted to prevail over northeast Arabian Sea of North Gujarat coast by India Meteorological Department (IMD) last week.

Tension increases in UP's Baghpat after recovery of animal carcass

Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh), Jun 04 (ANI): Members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) protested after animal carcass was recovered in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat. They claimed that the activity is undergoing in connivance of the police. However, police has claimed that the carcass was months old. ASP, Baghpat Ranvijay Singh said, "A group of people claiming to be part of an organisation informed police of presence of animal carcass in Bhaghpat. Police immediately reached the spot, however, the carcass seemed to be months old. Further investigation will be done."

New Delhi, Jun 04 (ANI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati confirmed the speculations of BSP fighting by-elections alone. Addressing the mediapersons, Mayawati said, "We can't ignore political compulsions. In the results of Lok Sabha elections in UP, base vote of Samajwadi Party, the 'Yadav' community, didn't support the party. Even strong contenders of SP were defeated." She further added, "It's not a permanent break. If we feel in future that SP chief succeeds in his political work, we'll again work together. But if he doesn't succeed, it'll be good for us to work separately. So we've decided to fight the by-elections alone."

Roads blocked for hours due to rain, thunderstorm at NH-26 in Kalahandi
