North 24 Parganas (West Bengal), Jun 03 (ANI): At least five Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers were allegedly beaten up by All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bidhan Biswas and other party workers in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district. All the victims have been admitted to a hospital. Three of them are said to be in critical condition. Later, BJP supporters gathered at Nimta Police Station and demanded for the arrest of culprits. Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been deployed in the area to maintain peace amid protests.

Jammu, Jun 03 (ANI): A massive fire broke out in Jammu's Maratha Mohalla last night. The incident happened near Jammu railway station. Around 150 jhuggis, including 41 of those belonging to Rohingyas, were gutted in fire. No injuriess have been reported. While speaking to ANI, one of the residents said, "It was a massive fire, wind fuelled it. Fire brigade came after an hour. No one from administration has come yet."
Sambhal (UP), Jun 03 (ANI): An encounter broke out between police and 3 cow smugglers in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal. One police constable has sustained injuries in the encounter. One cattle smuggler was shot at and later arrested by the police. However, the other 2 smugglers managed to escape from the scene. Weapon and vehicle used in the crime have been seized.
New Delhi, Jun 03 (ANI): It turns out, spending an hour a day outside in the sun reduces children's risk of inflammatory bowel disease. More than 800,000 people live with the two life-long disorders which make up IBD - Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis. "Taking children to play outside in the sun could be life-changing. It doesn't have to be all at the same time. But, we found children who were outside and exposed to the sun for an extra half hour a day in total, had a lower risk of developing IBD by almost 20 per cent, said lead researcher of the study Robyn Lucas, from the ANU College of Health and Medicine. The team of researchers found even short periods of sun exposure were associated with a lower risk of children developing IBD. The findings were published in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. Jalandhar (Punjab), June 03 (ANI): An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 39-year-old migrant labourer, who was later caught by the locals and beaten to death here on Sunday. The incident occurred in Dinesh Nagar area under Ramamandi Police Station limits. The victim allegedly hails from Nepal and is undergoing treatment at a city hospital, while the accused hailed from Bihar. The accused lived in the neighborhood of the victim's family. "The police reached at the spot found the accused seriously injured and unconscious. They took him to the Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries," said the Police official. A case has been registered under POCSO Act and further investigation is underway.
Lucknow (UP), June 03 (ANI): Police on Sunday seized illicit liquor worth over Rs 50 lakh and arrested one man from Farid Nagar area of Lucknow. The illicit liquor was seized from a truck, said Kalanidhi Naithani, SSP Lucknow. "Police has seized illicit liquor worth over Rs 50 lakh from a truck, today. A man has been arrested in connection with the case, while two others are absconding. The truck has been seized," Naithani said. Further investigation is currently underway.
Golaghat (Assam), June 03 (ANI): Residents of Golaghat's Numaligarh joined hands to rescue an elephant calf. An elephant calf fell into a drain and got stuck in the mud; The locals used bare hands and spades to dig the mud around the baby elephant. After hours of joined efforts, the locals successfully managed to rescue the baby elephant. An elephant calf generally weighs between 90-120 kg. The calf is now being treated under the supervision of the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation And Conservation.
Faridkot (Punjab), June 03 (ANI): Residents of Punjab's Faridkot celebrated 107th birthday of Punjab Mail. They distributed sweets to passengers and Train staff. Residents also garlanded Train's drivers and cut cake. Punjab Mail is one of the oldest long-distance trains in the country. The train made its first journey on June 1, 1912, from Mumbai, heading for Peshawar, now in Pakistan. It was known to be the fastest train of British India.
Mayurbhanj (Odisha), June 03 (ANI): Two minor children rescued and saved a life of a snake in Uthaninuagaon village in Mayurbhanj, Odisha. The snake was trapped in a fishnet; the boys rescued the snake and freed it in its natural habitat. The snake was not poisonous.
