LS polls: Australian Envoy hails 'well-organised' EC for managing election

New Delhi, May 12 (ANI): Australia's High Commissioner to India Harinder Sidhu on Sunday expressed her views on India's biggest festival of democracy. Amazed by the participation of the people for voting, Sidhu said that it's been an inspiring experience and she also hailed Election Commission and its officials for being well organized for the voting process. "It's been a really inspiring experience. How can you get so many people to voting? Answer is well-organised Election Commission and its officials. It's a good system and organised," said Sandhu. Reacting on a question on ongoing Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), she said that there is always a risk to integrity in any system and we have to consider that what the Government do to make it as sound process as possible to support integrity and people's confidence in the election.

Scuffle breaks out between BJP and TMC workers at polling booth in WB's Bankura

Bankura (West Bengal), May 12 (ANI): Scuffle between BJP workers and TMC workers at polling booth number 254 in Bankura after BJP alleged rigging by TMC workers. Police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the mob. Polling was not disrupted at the polling station.

Rahul Gandhi casts his vote, says 'love will win'

New Delhi, May 12 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi arrived to cast his vote at a polling booth at Aurangzeb Lane in New Delhi. Speaking to media after casting his vote, Rahul said, "The election was fought on key issues including demonetization, farmer problems, Gabbar Singh Tax and corruption in #Rafale. Narendra Modi used hatred in the campaign and we used love and I am confident love will win." Rahul Gandhi is contesting from two parliamentary constituencies- Uttar Pradesh's Amethi and Kerala's Wayanad. The results for 17th Lok Sabha elections will be declared on May 23.

Residents of Thane's Shahapur deprived of clean drinking water

Thane (Maharashtra), May 12 (ANI): People from villages of Shahapur Taluka in Thane are facing troubles due to water scarcity in the area. A local said, "All the water from our area goes to Mumbai and we struggle to get water even for drinking." While speaking to ANI another local said, "we are forced to consume unclean water, no water tank is provided to our village despite complaints". Around 550 people are suffering from water scarcity, added the local. The residents demanding that government should make arrangements to provide water.
