Preparations underway by Odisha Fire Services to fight against 'Fani'

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), May 02 (ANI): Odisha Fire Services has started preparations in view of "extremely severe" cyclonic storm 'Fani' in Odisha's Bhubaneswar. Around 50 teams of six members each are on alert in the city. The cyclonic storm 'Fani,' which has intensified to severe cyclonic storm, is expected to hit Odisha. The sea conditions are likely to be rough along and off the Odisha Coast on May 02.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas of the Odisha coast while giving a yellow warning to the coastal state. Cyclone 'Fani' is heading towards the state of Odisha with heavy wind speed and is expected to make landfall on May 03.

Suicide prevention services struggle with demand after celebrity suicides: Study

New Delhi, May 02 (ANI): Suicide prevention services including hotlines and websites are considered critical resources in helping curb the rate of suicides worldwide. However, when a celebrity dies, the authorities may lack the resources needed to meet the sudden increase in demand, a recent study suggests. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people in the US between the ages of 10 and 34, and the suicide rate continues to rise. Suicide rates generally follow predictable patterns, with increases in the spring and a second, smaller increase in early summer. But certain events, like highly-publicised celebrity suicides, can serve as "shocks" that cause a sudden spike in suicide deaths. To test the ability of crisis mental health services to meet a sudden increase in demand for help, a team of researchers in the US looked at increases in suicide rates within 30 days of Robin Williams' suicide on August 11, 2014. Heat wave intensifies, temperature soars around 45 C in Telangana

Hyderabad, May 02 (ANI): The heat wave conditions are intensifying in Telangana day after day during summer season. People in Hyderabad are facing difficulties due to scorching heat. Apple records Q1 revenue at USD 58 billion

New Delhi, May 02 (ANI): Apple recorded its Q1 2019 revenue of USD 58 billion, a slight decline of 5 per cent from last year. However, the company reached an all-new high in terms of services revenue. Apple posted USD 11.5 billion in services revenue, which includes Apple Music, as its installed base reached 1.4 billion active devices. In the March quarter, the company generated operating cash flow of USD 11.2 billion. The company witnessed record-setting sales in Wearables, Home and Accessories category. Apple recorded the strongest iPad growth in six years. For the next quarter, Apple estimates revenue between USD 52.5 billion and USD 54.5 billion.

Fire breaks out after truck collides with container on Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway

Anand (Gujarat), May 02 (ANI): A massive fire broke out on Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway after collision between truck and container on Wednesday. The incident took place when both the vehicles were going from Vadodara to Ahmedabad via expressway. The traffic movement at expressway is affected since the incident occurred. Gadchiroli Naxal attack: Local narrates horrific ordeal

Gadchiroli (Maharashtra), May 01 (ANI): 15 security personnel and their driver lost their lives in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli today after a powerful explosion, set off by Maoists, blew up their vehicle. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast was set off on a private vehicle when a team of the C-60 Quick Response Team of the Gadchiroli police was on its way to inspect a fleet of vehicles torched by Maoists earlier in the day. A local told ANI, that it was horrible condition on the ground when he reached at the location, security personnel's body was lying on the ground and the vehicle parts were spread there for 200 meters.

Cyclone Fani: GoI to provide Rs 340 crore relief package for Odisha, informs Dharmendra Pradhan

New Delhi, May 01 (ANI): Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday met Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha seeking relief as cyclone Fani is expected to hit Odisha's coastal area. After the meeting he informed that the Government of India has taken responsibility of providing Rs. 340 crore relief package. Pradhan also informed that GoI will also permit two helicopters and National Disaster Response Force assistance if needed. "We have met to the Cabinet Secretary regarding the cyclone Fani which is going to hit the Odisha state from tomorrow. The Government of India has taken quick action and took the responsibility of providing Rs. 340 crore relief. GOI also permitted to provide two helicopter and team of NDRF. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in several areas of the Odisha coast while giving a yellow warning to the coastal state".
