Kochi (Kerala) Apr 12 (ANI): Aswathi Rajappan, a transgender is contesting for the general elections as an independent candidate from Kerala's Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency. Rajappan will be contesting against NDA's Alphons Kannanthanam, Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture. Kerala goes to polls on April 23. While speaking to ANI, Aswathi said, "I want to represent my community to the main stream, Dr Ambedkar said educate agitate and organise, I am an educated person, I agitated a lot and now I am getting organised for my community."
New Delhi, Apr 12 (ANI): Bitcoin, the digital currency may be considered as revolutionary for the economies but China thinks otherwise. The country is proposing to ban the practice of mining the cryptocurrency for wasting resources. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the country's chief planning regulator, is proposing to ban Bitcoin mining, which it says has seriously wasted resources, Engadget reports. The process of mining is indeed a complex and resource hungry procedure. Typically, it requires powerful banks of computers dedicated to crunching out blockchain numbers. Nearly three-quarters of these cryptocurrencies are mined in China, generating anywhere up to 10 million tons of carbon dioxide. China is not only concerned about the pollution but also the potential chaos among investors owing to the dynamic valuation of the cryptocurrency. If the new rules come into force, the miners in China may be forced to leave their operations and move to foreign bases.
New Delhi, Apr 12 (ANI): Rates of heat-related illnesses, such as heat cramps and heat strokes, were reduced by half in places that follow state-mandated guidelines to reduce exertional heat illness among high school football players, according to a study. The study examined the effectiveness of state-mandated guidelines for reducing exertional heat illness among high school football players and provided compelling evidence that exertional heat illness can be prevented through mandated safety policies. The study findings were published in the Journal of Environmental Health Perspectives. Heat-related illness is a potentially life-threatening injury for high school athletes and is most common among high school football players. Tough physical practices in hot, humid conditions increase the risk of a wide range of exertional heat illness conditions.

We should have won and closed out but due to some reasons, we are not being able to do it. New Delhi, Apr 12 (ANI): Uzma Ahmed made headlines way back in 2017 when she was rescued by the Indian High Commission from Pakistan. Uzma had fallen in love with a Pakistan national in 2017 in Malaysia. But all her dreams were shattered when she was kept as a hostage by him in remotely situated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a month. After two years of struggle of fighting bitter memories, she has decided to come forward to help women, who face a similar situation, and her painful experience in Pakistan inspired her to take this initiative. Speaking to ANI, Uzma said, "I am planning to start a helpline number and NGO with the name 'Daughter of India.' It will help women, who have been kept hostages in Pakistan."
Vadodara (Gujarat) Apr 12 (ANI): Pakistan released 100 Indian fishermen on April 8 as a goodwill gesture. The fishermen, who have been released by Pakistan reached Gujarat's Vadodara by Golden Temple train and from there, they will go to Veraval in Gujarat. The fishermen were arrested for violating Pakistan's maritime borders in February.
Gadchiroli (Maharashtra) Apr 12 (ANI): While speaking to ANI on the issue of improvised explosive device (IED) blast, which took place in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district near a polling booth, Maharashtra's Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dilip Shinde said, "In Gadchiroli, firing and bomb blast took place in that two jawans has been injured Polling could not take place at four polling stations of Gadchiroli. We have informed the Election commission and will go for poll in these polling stations."

Kalahandi (Odisha), Apr 11 (ANI): A village named Bhejipadar in Odisha's Kalahandi has boycotted the Lok Sabha elections held today. Villagers are protesting for the construction of road for easier connectivity to the town. Villagers sat outside the booth but they didn't cast vote. They have also put a board regarding the boycott. The village has 666 voters. A local told ANI, "Our village is 3 km far from the town. There are two roadways. Through one road we have to cover 10 km, for another route we have to cover 3 km. The longer route is like a forest. The shorter route is also not accessible. That is why we called Collector, DCP even DRM also. But it didn't yield any sult. We want the construction of road."
Kalahandi (Odisha)/Gondia (Maharashtra), Apr 11 (ANI): Voting for the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls has ended in different parts of the country. Officials at the polling station can be seen sealing the EVMs and VVPATs. 17th Lok Sabha election is being held in seven phases. Polling for the first phase took place for 91 seats in 20 States and Union Territories. The second phase of elections will be held on April 18. The counting for votes will take place on May 23.
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Apr 11 (ANI): Senior Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Satish Chandra Mishra has alleged that people from Dalit community were restricted from casting votes in Uttar Pradesh. He said, "In Uttar Pradesh today, the police and administration stopped members of Dalit community from casting votes. We've registered complaint with Election Commission (EC) regarding this and requested immediate action. We've told EC that higher-ups had a hand in this." He added, "We've registered another complaint with Election Commission and have sent them a video clip of EVM, in which it is seen that 'elephant' symbol is being pressed but vote is going to BJP's 'lotus' symbol. Our people had complained against it but no action was taken."
Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Apr 11 (ANI): Congress leader and Tourism Minister in the Punjab Government Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over latter's 'chowkidar campaign' by saying that while countries like China, US and Russia are making rail lines and robotic army, PM Modi is making "chowkidar" even that a "chor". Sidhu made the remarks in Chhattisgarh's Raipur where he is on the campaign trail for his party.

Nagpur (Maharashtra), Apr 11 (ANI): World's smallest woman Jyoti Amge, who is a resident of Maharashtra, cast her vote today in Nagpur for the Lok Sabha elections. Jyoti is a Guinness World Record holder for being the tiniest woman in the world. Jyoti stands just 63 cm tall. She arrived at the polling station with her parents.
Raebareli (UP), Apr 11 (ANI): UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination from Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli today as the Congress party's candidate for the Lok Sabha polls. Congress president Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and son-in-law Robert Vadra were also present while she filed her nomination. Ahead of filing the nomination, the UPA chairperson also held a roadshow and offered puja at the Congress central office there. Sonia is contesting from the seat for the fifth time in a row.
