CAA protests: 15 deaths, over 700 arrested in UP: Police

Lucknow (UP), Dec 21 (ANI): While addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Praveen Kumar, Inspector General (Law and Order) for Lucknow, informed that 15 people have died while 705 are in custody since the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act spread across the state. He said. "In protest against Citizenship Amendment Act since Dec 10 in state, 705 people arrested and around 4500 people released after preventive arrest.15 casualties have happened, and 263 police personnel were injured of which 57 personnel received fire arm injuries."

Security forces conduct flag march in Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi (Karnataka), Dec 21 (ANI): The security forces took out flag march from Nagareshwar School to Jagat Circle in Kalaburagi on December 21. Companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the area to maintain peace as protests against new Citizenship Act gripped the state. While speaking to ANI, Karnataka ADGP Alok Kumar said, "To instill confidence in minds of general public and fear in minds of bad elements, we wanted to have show of force to send right signal to people."

Anti-CAA protests: Protesters pelt stones at police in Kanpur

Kanpur (UP), Dec 21 (ANI): Protesters during demonstrations against Citizenship Amendment Act in Kanpur pelted stone at police officials, who fired tear gas shells to take the situation under control. Violent protests were erupted at Yateem Khana Police Station area in UP's Kanpur. Policemen equipped with anti-riot gears, retaliated by firing tear gas shells at the protesters. Nation-wide protests have intensified after the implementation of the new Citizenship Act.

Anti-CAA protest: Nine people died in UP, says DGP

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 21 (ANI): Director General of the Uttar Pradesh Police, OP Singh said that at least nine people have died due to protest and around 218 people have been arrested from Lucknow in connection with anti-CAA protests that turned violent. He said, "Wherever lawsuits have been lodged, our local administrations are arresting them. But we will not arrest any innocent person. Only after investigation, we'll arrest them. We arrested around 218 people from Lucknow. And as per the last night's report, 9 people have died so far and the numbers could exceed and we are assessing on it." He further said that, "It might be possible that some external elements are involved in turning protest into violence."

No plans to extend Section 144 in Bengaluru: Police Commissioner

Bengaluru, Dec 21 (ANI): While speaking to ANI, Police Commissioner of Bengaluru City, Bhaskar Rao said that there is no plan of extending Section 144 in Bengaluru as of now. On imposition of Section 144, Rao said, "As of now, we have no plans to extend it but we will study the situation in the evening. These are things where we need to take immediate decisions." Speaking about the upcoming protests in city, he said, "We have advised people and I am recommending that there should be no more protest over here. But if our request is unheeded, we may have to take action." "8 cases registered at SJ Park police station and Ulsoor Gate police station," he said further over protests in the city.
