Mercedes car hits taxi in Delhi, 3 injured

New Delhi, Jul 19 (ANI): At least three people, in a taxi, got critically injured when an overspending Mercedes car hit it before colliding with a traffic light. The incident took place on BRT corridor in Delhi, earlier tonight. All injured have been taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre. The Mercedes driver has been detained by police. Investigation is underway.

2 months after Surat fire tragedy, fire breaks out again at 'Takshashila Arcade'

Surat (Gujarat), Jul 19 (ANI): Fire broke out earlier today at 'Takshashila Arcade' in Surat's Sarthana where 22 students had died in a fire on its fourth floor on May 24. The fire broke out yesterday during demolition of the floor. It was soon brought under control. No injuries have been reported.

EAM Jaishankar to attend BRICS Foreign Ministers meet in Brazil

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will participate in the standalone meeting of the BRICS Foreign Ministers scheduled to be held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil from July 25 to 26. "During the meeting, S Jaishankar is expected to discuss among other issues, the preparation for the 11th BRICS Summit of the leaders slated to be held in Brasilia in November this year," said Spokesperson of External Affairs Ministry Raveesh Kumar on Thursday. This would be S Jaishankar's first engagement with the BRICS foreign ministers since assuming office in May. BRICS is the acronym coined for an association of five major emerging national economies; Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Originally the first four were grouped as "BRIC", before the induction of South Africa in 2010.

Pakistani agents like Pannun bringing disgrace to Sikh community:M S Bitta

New Delhi (India), July 18 (ANI): Former politician and chairman of All India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF), MS Bitta has come down heavily on legal advisor of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, alleging him for bringing disgrace to the Sikhs. US-based Pannun, who runs a pro-Khalistan campaign called 'Referendum 2020', is engaged in radicalising, funding and motivating gullible youths of Punjab into committing acts of arson and violence. He is alleged to be backed by Pakistan's spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Pak has compulsions to lie: MEA on country's claims of victory at ICJ

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): Reacting on Pakistan's claim of victory at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Thursday said Islamabad has its own compulsions to lie to its people. "I think they have their own compulsions, as to why they have to lie to their own people," MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said. "Frankly, it seems to me they are reading from a different verdict. CMs committee holds 1st meeting for agriculture reforms

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): The committee of Chief Ministers to reform agriculture held its first meeting on Thursday. Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis -led CMs' panel. Different issues were put up in the meeting, as "How do we provide a dynamic electronic platform through eNAM (National Agriculture Market) to states, this will be pondered over. How do we increase investment in agriculture?" said Devendra Fadnavis in a press conference. CMs of Karnataka, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, UP and MP and Union Ministers of Agriculture, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj are members of the committee. The committee is to lay out a comprehensive time-bound roadmap for implementation of agriculture reforms by states.

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Jul 18 (ANI): A picture of a drowned kid in Bihar due to floods in the state is doing the rounds on social media. However, now it has to come to attention that the child's death is not actually related to the heavy floods in Bihar, but it is of a criminal offence. Muzaffarpur's District Magistrate (DM) Alok Ranjan revealed that one Reena Devi of Shitalpatti village after a fight with her husband pushed her four children into a river, and before jumpinh in river herself, which resulted in the death of three children. "Reena Devi, resident of Shitalpatti village, after fight with husband pushed her 4 children into river and herself jumped into river on July16. Woman along with 7-yr-old daughter survived. 3 of her children died," Ranjan told reporters in Muzaffarpur.

Ayodhya case: Mediation panel submits status report in SC, next hearing on August 2

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court will hear the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land title case in an open court on August 2. This was after the three-member mediation panel in the Ayodhya land title dispute case submitted its status report before the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the mediation process will continue till July 31. SC judge (retd) Fakkir Mohamed Ibrahim Kalifulla, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Senior Advocate Sriram Panchu are the mediators. The Supreme Court had constituted a mediation panel to explore possibility of an amicable settlement in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case.

Saravana Bhavan founder P Rajagopal passes away

Chennai, July 18 (ANI): P Rajagopal, the founder of Saravana Bhavan restaurant group and a convict in a 2001 murder case, passed away at a hospital today. Rajagopal, 72, was admitted to Vijaya Health Centre after he suffered a cardiac arrest. He had recently surrendered before the Madras High Court to undergo life imprisonment for murdering one of his employees. On July 9, the Supreme Court had refused to grant relief to Rajagopal, who had sought more time to surrender in the case on medical grounds. He was directed to surrender by July 7. According to the prosecution, an astrologer advised Rajagopal to marry Jeevajothi, the daughter of a Saravana Bhavan employee, to become richer, following which he tried to woo her. As he could not succeed in his plan, he hatched a criminal conspiracy to eliminate Prince Shantakumar, who was married to Jeevajothi. Shantakumar was murdered in October 2001 and his body was found in Kodaikanal city of Tamil Nadu.
