CM Banerjee flags off Jagannath Rath Yatra in Kolkata

Kolkata, July 04 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee flagged off ISKCON's Jagannath Rath Yatra in Kolkata today. All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Nusrat Jahan and her husband Nikhil Jain also accompanied her. Kolkata's ISKCON Rath Yatra is considered to be the second largest after Puri's Rath Yatra. The festivities will conclude on July 12.

Municipal Corporation starts drive to recycle plastic waste into bricks, floor tiles in Uttarakhand

Chamoli (Uttarakhand), July 04 (ANI): Municipal Corporation has come up with a unique initiative to recycle plastic in Uttarakhand's Gopeshwar. A project is being planned to convert this plastic garbage into bricks and floor tiles. The city gets an average of 20 quintal plastic every day. The project will save the city from both plastic waste and environment damage. A drive has begun in the city to segregate the plastic from garbage. An experiment of making few plastic bricks and tiles has turned out to be successful by Corporation.

1 arrested in encounter between cow smuggler and police in UP's Sambhal

Sambhal (UP), July 04 (ANI): One cow smuggler was arrested in an encounter between Sambhal Police and the smuggler, in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal on Wednesday. One Police constable was injured during the encounter. The smuggler identified as Nasim. The constable and accused both were shifted to a local hospital for treatment. The accused have many cases registered against him. While speaking to mediapersons, police official said, "An encounter broke out between police personnel and the smuggler. One police constable and smuggler got injured during the fire. Both were shifted to a hospital for the treatment."

NMCG lays stress on cleaning tributaries of Ganga

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), July 04 (ANI): Rising in the Himalayas and flowing to the Bay of Bengal, Ganga traverses a course of more than 2,500 km through the plains of north and eastern India. Serving as one of India's holiest rivers, Ganga is joined by Ramganga, Gomti, Ghaghara, Gandak, Kosi and Mahananda from left bank and Yamuna, Tamsa, Son and Punpun from right bank. Ganga can't be clean unless its tributaries are clean. Under the Namami Gange programme, the government has initiated several major projects to clean Ganga and its tributaries. The Yamuna, the western most and the longest tributary of the Ganga, has its source in the Yamunotri glacier on the western slopes of Banderpunch range. It joins the Ganga at Prayag and holds 40.2 percent of the entire Ganges Basin. Mumbai, July 04 (ANI): Rahul Gandhi pleaded not guilty in the defamation case filed against him for allegedly linking Gauri Lankesh's murder with 'BJP-RSS ideology'. He has been released on Rs 15000 surety amount. Former MP Eknath Gaikwad has given surety for Rahul Gandhi. Speaking to mediapersons, Rahul said, "I did not say anything in court. As the flagship document of the finance ministry, the Economic Survey provides detailed statistical data covering all aspects of the economy. Prepared by Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy Subramanian, today's Economic Survey will be the first under the re-elected Narendra Modi-led government. The release of Economic Survey 2018-19 comes a day ahead of the presentation of Union Budget in Parliament. He dug up around a dozen ponds in villages of Chandaus block in Aligarh to conserve water. He started this initiative around 8-9 years ago, when ground water level decreased continuously in the area.
