Homeless couple on verge of starving as lockdown halts means of livelihood

New Delhi, Mar 26 (ANI): A destitute couple residing at Jantar Mantar is going through difficult times after the nation went under 21-days lockdown. The couple resides on road near Jantar Mantar in a makeshift tent and depends on daily wages. The woman is 8 months pregnant. Sapna said, "We had 1 kg of rice that we ate in past 3-4 days. We get Rs 50-100 by cleaning nearby area. We can't even go to work." Sanjay broke down while sharing health concerns of his heavily pregnant wife. He said, "We clean garbage and get Rs 50 or 100, to carry on our lives. The quota of food finished today, for future may god help us." Nationwide lockdown has put people in unorganised sector in grim situation. The administration is working relentlessly to provide food and shelter to such people. Nagpur Municipal Corporation conducts door to door coronavirus survey

Nagpur (Maharashtra), Mar 26(ANI): Amidst Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on national lockdown from March 25, Nagpur Municipal Corporation conducted door to door coronavirus survey. Nagpur Municipal Corporation official said that the survey was conducted to educate people on the Dos and Don'ts of coronavirus along with the sanitation measures that need to be followed. So far, Maharashtra has reported 124 COVID-19 cases and 3 deaths. Coronavirus cases in India mounted to 649.

Pratapgarh (Rajasthan)/Budaun (UP): While country is under lockdown for 21 days to contain the spreading of COVID-19, some people are still not following the rules and are coming outside their houses. Police are also taking strict actions against these people. In Rajasthan's Pratapgarh, police officials punishing the people who are roaming on roads without any valid reason. The policemen made them do frog jumps as a lenient punishment. The confirmed cases of COVID-19 are now rocketed over 600 in the country.

Centre to pay Provident Fund of select employees for 3 months, announces FM Sitharaman

New Delhi, Mar 26 (ANI): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Government of India will provide Provident Fund of both employees and employers for next 3 months. She announced, "Government of India will pay the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) contribution, both of employer and employee, put together it will be 24 percent, this will be for next 3 months. This is for those establishments which have upto 100 employees and 90 percent of them earn less than 15,000." She further added, "Government ready to amend the regulation of EPF due to this pandemic so that workers can draw upto 75 percent non-refundable advance from credit in PF account or 3 months salary, whichever is lower."

8.69 crore farmers to get benefit through direct cash transfer: FM Sitharaman

New Delhi, Mar 26 (ANI): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed that 8.69 crore farmers will be immediately benefited through direct cash transfers. FM announced installment of Rs 2000 in the first week of April to be transferred to the farmers. On wage increase in MGNREGA, Finance Minister said that 5 crore families will be benefited, as there will be an increase of Rs 2000 per worker on average as additional income.

COVID-19: FM announces Rs 50 lakh insurance cover for doctors, paramedic, healthcare workers

New Delhi, Mar 26(ANI): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on March 26 announced Rs 50 lakh medical insurance cover per person for healthcare workers, sanitation workers, paramedics, doctors and nurses who are exposing themselves to the virus. The FM further announced that under Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Ann Yojana, 80 crore poor people has been already allotted 5kg of rice/wheat per person, further 5 kg will be provided for free. "Additional 1kg pulse (acc to regional preference) will be given," FM announced

COVID-19 outbreak: Essential services should not be interrupted during lockdown, ensures CM Gehlot

Jaipur (Rajasthan), Mar 26 (ANI): Reviewing the situation of lockdown with the Collectors and the SPs across the state through video-conferencing, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that coronavirus can be kept at bay only through social distancing. The objective of lockdown is that people should stay in their houses. He said that supply of essential services should be smooth during the lockdown. Daily wage workers cross border to go to their native villages amid COVID-19 outbreak

New Delhi, Mar 26 (ANI): As the Novel Coronavirus pandemic cases rise in India, people have been forced to remain indoors. Equity indices edge higher on hope of stimulus package, IT and banking stocks gain

Mumbai, Mar 26 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices ruled higher during early hours on March 26 following reports that the government may soon announce an economic stimulus package to soften the blow of countrywide lockdown amid spreading coronavirus. At 10:15 am, the BSE S and P Sensex was up by 1,175 points or 4.12 per cent to 29,711 while the Nifty 50 edged higher by 327 points or 3.93 per cent to 8,645. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the positive zone with Nifty IT up by 4 per cent, private bank by 3.8 per cent, realty by 3 per cent and pharma by 2.5 per cent. Among stocks, IndusInd Bank made a dramatic gain of 25 per cent to Rs 376.60 per share while Axis Bank was up by 7.3 per cent.
