Deaths after Covid vaccination: Tracking adverse events, hospitalisations

A presentation was made to the National Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI) Committee during a meeting held on March 31 over the number of deaths, AEFI hospitalisations and severe AEFI post vaccination against coronavirus in the country. People were seen flouting social distancing norms at the vegetable market. Many were seen without a proper mask. Mumbai reported 8,938 new COVID-19 cases and 23 deaths on April 08.

Migrant labourers leave Mumbai in jam-packed train due to COVID fear

Mumbai, Apr 09 (ANI): COVID-19 cases are continued to rise in Maharashtra. A UP-bound train was seen packed with migrant labourers at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai. They're leaving the city due to surge in COVID cases. A passenger said, "This train will go to Gorakhpur. We're leaving the city because #COVID19 cases are rising here." On an average, Maharashtra is reporting over 50,000 COVID cases daily.

COVID-19: Police increases surveillance in Delhi, Noida amid night curfew

New Delhi / Noida (UP), Apr 09 (ANI): Due to spike in COVID-19 cases, night curfew has been imposed in Delhi till April 30. Police barricading was place to keep a check on the vehicular movement. Uttar Pradesh Police also checked identity cards of commuters entering Noida from Delhi at Chilla Border. The night curfew has been imposed in Noida between 10 pm and 5 pm till April 17 in view of rising cases of COVID-19. Addl CP (L and O) of GautamBuddha Nagar district, Love Kumar said, "We're asking commuters as to why they're travelling during night curfew. We allow them (to enter Noida) if we find their reasons satisfactory. Many people aren't aware of the night curfew. We'll strictly implement it from tomorrow."

Hyderabad-based magician travels blindfoldly to spread awareness on COVID

Agra (UP), Apr 09 (ANI): A 43-yr-old magician from Hyderabad came up with unique initiative to make people aware about COVID, plastic-free environment and road safety. He has started 'Bharat Sandesh Yatra' and has travelled 11 states on his bike blindfoldly till now. He has now reached to Agra from Hyderabad. Ram Krishna's goal is to finish 10,000 kms in 30 days.

Wedding season in dire situation due to COVID-imposed night curfew

New Delhi, Apr 09 (ANI): Due to spike in COVID-19 cases, the night curfew has been imposed in Delhi to combat the spread of the virus. The curfew has impacted the wedding season a lot. Some are cancelling or rescheduling the dates of their weddings in the national capital. The businesses of tent dealers are getting highly-affected due to it. The night curfew will remain in place till April 30 in Delhi.

Seychelles President thanks India for 'precious' donation of COVID vaccines

New Delhi, Apr 08 (ANI): President of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan during a virtual meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked him for solidarity and contribution in fight against COVID-19 by donating 50,000 doses of Covishield vaccine."In little less than 2 months, we'll be commemorating 45th anniversary of formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Seychelles and India. The support we have received from India has contributed immensely to socio-economic development of Seychelles," said President of Seychelles. He added, "What better example of Indian solidarity than your donation of 50,000 doses of Covishield vaccine. If we're nearing our target of achieving 70% of heard immunity by April 2021 and have re-opened our country to business, it is due to this precious donation."

Central Health Team visits Mumbai's BKC vaccination centre

Mumbai, Apr 08 (ANI): A central team of health experts visited Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex COVID-19 vaccination centre to assess the situation in the city. Team member Kunal Kumar said, "The Centre and State are discussing the issue (vaccine) and we will work as per their decisions. We are doing our best to manage the COVID situation in Maharashtra. Centre, State, and community need to work together to win this fight." Maharashtra Government had claimed that there is shortage of vaccines.

CoBRA commando released by Naxals, family elated

Jammu, Apr 08 (ANI): CoBRA jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, who was kidnapped by Naxals during an encounter in Junaguda village in Sukma district on April 03, has been released. Meenu, wife of Manhas said that it is the happiest day of her life. "I always remained hopeful of his return. I thank the government," she said. Twenty-two security personnel lost their lives while 31 sustained injuries in an encounter that broke out between security forces and Naxals along the Chhattisgarh's Sukma-Bijapur border on Saturday after a party of jawans were ambushed by Naxals near Jonnaguda village.

COVID update: India records highest ever spike with 1.26 lakh new cases

New Delhi, Apr 08 (ANI): The COVID-19 cases continued to surge in India and 1,26,789 new cases reported in the country on April 08. The country's COVID caseload stood at 1,29,28,574 and currently, there are 9,10,319 active cases in India . 59,258 people were discharged in last 24 hours taking total recoveries to 1,18,51,393. With 685 new deaths, death toll mounts to 1,66,862. According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 25,26,77,379 samples tested for COVID-19, up to April 07. The COVID vaccination drive is underway across country. So far 9,01,98,673 COVID vaccine jabs have been inoculated.

Nurses share experience after administering COVID vaccine to PM Modi

New Delhi, Apr 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his second shot of COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS, Delhi on April 08. He received the first dose of Bharat Biotech's COVAXIN on March 01. "I have given the second dose of COVAXIN to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. He spoke to us. It was a memorable moment for me as I got to meet him and vaccinate him," said Nisha Sharma, Nurse. "I am the vaccinator who gave the first dose of COVAXIN to PM Narendra Modi. Today, I got another opportunity to meet him and vaccinate him for the second time. I was elated again. He spoke to us, we even clicked pictures with him," said P Niveda, Nurse. The two nurses who administered COVID-19 vaccine to PM Narendra Modi at AIIMS, Delhi are-P Niveda from Puducherry and Nisha Sharma from Punjab.
