'Important to teach lesson': Nirbhaya's mother after Delhi HC dismisses convict's plea

New Delhi, 19 Dec (ANI): Asha Devi, mother of Nirbhaya, on December 19 said that it is important to teach lessons to her daughter's rapists after the Delhi High Court dismissed convict Pawan Kumar's plea in which he claimed he was a juvenile at the time of the crime, and thus should be treated as such. Speaking on this, Nirbhaya's Mother Asha Devi said, "I welcome today's decision. It is very important to teach lesson to such people. I am happy."

PM Modi meets Portuguese counterpart in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa, at Hyderabad House in Delhi on December 19. The Portugal PM is on a two-day visit to India. Costa's present visit to India is his first bilateral visit outside Europe after being re-elected as the Prime Minister on October 6, 2019. His visit, however, comes in the wake of countrywide protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

CAA protests halt traffic in Delhi-NCR, 19 metro stations shut

Gurugram (Haryana), Dec 19 (ANI): Massive traffic jam was witnessed in parts of Delhi and at Delhi-Gurugram border due to protests against Citizenship Amendment Act. Several vehicles were seen stuck in heavy traffic at Delhi-Gurugram border. Traffic snarls were seen at Cyber Hub flyover. Parts of Delhi also witnessed several traffic jams due to checking of vehicles by Delhi Police in wake of protests against CAA. Besides this, a total of 19 metro stations including Rajiv Chowk have been shut to avoid any toward incident. Internet services have also been down partially in several parts of Delhi amidst CAA protests at multiple places including Mandi House and near Red Fort.

Govt bus set ablaze during protest against CAA in UP's Sambhal

Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh), Dec19 (ANI): A state transport bus was set ablaze during a protest staged in UP's Sambhal on December 19. Locals participated in large numbers in the protest. Nation-wide protests have intensified after both the Houses of Parliament passed new Citizenship Bill. New Citizenship Act will give Indian citizenship to immigrants, except Muslims, from three neighbouring countries, i.e. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Students and other people of Muslim community offered Namaz outside the gates of Jamia Millia Islamia University. Members of other faiths formed a human chain around them. People across Delhi are protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 and NRC. Section 144 has also been imposed in several parts of Delhi.

Protest turned violent against CAA and NRC in Lucknow

Lucknow (UP), Dec 19 (ANI): Locals staged protest at at Collectorate -Hazratganj road against Citizenship (Amendment) Act CAA and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow. Lawyers also took part in the protest. Protest turned violent after stone pelting started. The lawyer asked the question that "if one of person's mother or father is Muslim then how will CAA going to affect him or her?."

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended anniversary parade of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at Ghitorni in New Delhi. HM Amit Shah announced that a system will be implemented where SSB jawans will get to stay with their family for 100 days. Unhappy over birth of 4th daughter, man commits suicide in Gujarat

Junagadh (Gujarat), Dec 19 (ANI): As per police, a farm labourer in Gujarat's Khambhalia village in Junagadh district killed himself after allegedly killing his 3 daughters aged 9, 7 and 2 years. He killed them by throwing them into a well, after his wife gave birth to another daughter. Later, the man committed suicide by hanging himself. A case has been registered. Investigation is underway.

'There is fear among citizens today': Arvind Kejriwal urges centre to revoke CAA

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on December 19 appealed to the central government to revoke Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), reasoning that there is "fear among all citizens" today due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the country. "Today, law and order situation in the country is deteriorating. There is a fear among all citizens today. I appeal to the central government to not bring this law but give employment to the youth," Kejriwal told reporters in Delhi where parts of areas have been put under Section 144 to tackle violent protests against the new citizenship law.

Bengaluru (Karnataka), Dec 19 (ANI): Historian Ramachandra Guha was detained on December 19 in Bengaluru while taking part in protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Section 144 is imposed in Bengaluru amid call for intense protests against new citizenship law. Meanwhile in Delhi, activist Umar Khalid, too, was taken into custody for protesting CAA near Red Fort where Section 144 is in place. Nation-wide protests intensified after Citizenship Amendment Bill was cleared by Parliament and received President Ram Nath Kovind's assent on December 13. Section 144 is imposed in multiple states across the country to tackle violent protests against CAA.
