Kolkata (West Bengal), Oct 05 (ANI): Durga Puja celebrations run parallel with Navratri, a Hindu festival where nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped. The festival celebrates Goddess Durga's triumph over 'Asura'. Prayers were being offered by devotees on 'Maha Saptami Puja' at Padatik Club in West Bengal's Kolkata on October 05. For Durga Puja celebrations, huge pandals with idols of Goddess Durga are set-up and devotees come in large numbers to offer prayers to the goddess. 'Maha Ashtami' is the most important day of Durga Puja festival. The day begins with 'pushpanjali' and 'aarti' in Durga Puja pandals.

Hyderabad, Oct 05 (ANI): The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees went on indefinite strike in Hyderabad on October 05. Their protest is over demand for the merger of TSRTC with the government. Around 54, 000 TSRTC employees are doing indefinite strike from today. The development comes after talks between the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of TSRTC employees and a government panel for third successive day yielded no results. Nearly 10 employee unions comprising TSRTC Staff and Workers Federation, RTC Telangana Mazdoor Union (TMU), TSRTC National Mazdoor Union and TSRTC Employees Union have decided to observe the strike. The unions claim to represent nearly one lakh employees, half of which work on a contract basis.

People from all walks of life were seen in colourful outfits and donning Modi masks while grooving to the musical beats. Paintings of Jodhaiya Bai Baiga are showcased at Milan which is global capital of fashion and design. She hails from Umaria district's Lorha village in Madhya Pradesh. At least 73 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state.

Agra (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 05 (ANI): Ahead of Vijayadashami or Dussehra, a Muslim man is busy preparing the effigies to be used on the occasion that is majorly celebrated across India to mark the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Jafar Ali, who hails from nearby Mathura said that his family has been doing this work for the past three generations and is an example of communal harmony and brotherhood in the country. "Our family has been for generations making the Ravana effigy. We do it to show Hindu-Muslim unity. Yes, we are Muslim but we do it," Ali told ANI. This year, he is preparing a 100-foot high effigy of Ravana which will be burnt near the city's Ramlila ground. Dussehra is celebrated by conducting pujas and plays of the events of the Ramayana (Ramlila) over the nine-day Navaratri and burning effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad along with fireworks on the tenth day to commemorate the destruction of evil.

Bombay High Court has dismissed all petitions against Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decision which allowed felling of more than 2700 trees there, for metro car shed. Tree felling started at Aarey after Bombay HC throws out Public Interest Litigations (PILs). Protestors were later removed from the spot by police. Bombay HC also imposed fine of Rs 50,000 on Shiv Sena corporator Yashwant Jadhav, who had filed a plea against the tree authority's approval to cut over 2700 trees for the metro project. Jadhav was a member of the tree authority.
Budaun (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 05 (ANI): The principal of a primary school was caught consuming liquor within the in school premises in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district on October 04. He was caught by villagers while consuming alcohol. While speaking to ANI, District Magistrate (DM) of Budaun district, Dinesh Kumar Singh said, "I have directed the Basic Education Officer to conduct probe immediately and take action against the said teacher. I have also given instructions to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Wazirganj." "Strict action will be taken against him, if he was found consuming alcohol," DM added.

India won all five matches during the tour. They have beaten team Belgium by 2-0 in the opening match and registering 6-1 and 5-1 wins over Spain in the next two games, before finishing off their tour with two more wins. While speaking to ANI, Captain of men's hockey team, Manpreet Singh said, "We played against Belgium and Spain and won. Our confidence level is up. It will help us in qualifying rounds for Olympics. Called Threads, the standalone camera-first messaging app allows you to share photos, videos, Stories, with close friends from Instagram, the official release notes. Although Threads will be a standalone app, messages from close friends will also be visible in the main app's Direct section. Threads is available globally.

He's like you and me. We did it (Article 370's abrogation) because we wanted to give development rights, political rights and right to dignified living to all people of J and K". He further added, "Now Jammu and Kashmir has become an integral part of India. It's like any other state in the country. Two union territories have been created. Ladakhis are very happy, they're rejoicing as it had been a long pending demand for them". "In Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu region is happy that they have been finally able to fully integrate with the rest of the country. There are issues in Kashmir valley.
