Article 370 revoked: More than 21,000 families to get citizenship in JandK

Samba (JandK), Aug 17 (ANI): Pakistan refugees living in JandK haven't got Indian citizenship till now. After abrogation of Article 370, more than 21,000 families will get citizenship. These families are happy after revoke of Article 370 which means Jammu and Kashmir is no more a special state. While speaking to ANI, one of the locals said that earlier we used to face loss due to it but now after abrogation of Article 370, we are happy. Another local said, "For 70 years, people used to call us Pakistani, now we will get the citizenship. We faced several problems as they used to call us West Pakistani but now our kids will also get their rights." Article 370 that used to give special status as state to Jammu and Kashmir was revoked in Parliament on August 05.

Ram Madhav assures full statehood to Valley after situation normalises

Jammu, Aug 17 (ANI): National general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ram Madhav addressed Jammu and Kashmir issues in Jammu on August 16. Ram Madhav said, "A Bill has been formed; by October end, laws will be formulated under it. After Oct 31, Jammu and Kashmir will stay a Union Territory with legislature for some time and like the Home Minister clarified in Parliament, as situation normalises it'll be granted full statehood. Delimitation of seats in Assembly here will have to be done again. There will be 114 seats here, 24 out of them are for PoK, they will stay vacant. Remaining 90 seats will be for the rest of Jammu and Kashmir." He further said, "There are groups here devoid of basic human rights. We know about Kashmiri Pandits who are forced to live as refugees in their own country. Rearrangement of their rights will be done. West Pakistan refugees are also here, their rights will also be given back to them."

Heavy rainfall leads to waterlogging in parts of Kolkata

Kolkata (West Bengal), Aug 17 (ANI): Heavy rainfall led to waterlogging situation in West Bengal's Kolkata. Local lives affected due to incessant rains. Traffic movement also affected due to rainfall. According to a state control room monitoring the situation, several parts in south Kolkata were badly hit including Behala, Mominpur and Jinjira Bazar.

PM Modi receives Guard of Honour upon his arrival in Bhutan

Thimphu (Bhutan), Aug 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Paro International Airport in Bhutan's Thimpu on August 17. He was welcomed by Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering on his arrival. Modi also received Guard of Honour. He is on a two-day visit to Bhutan with an aim to strengthen bilateral ties with the Himalayan nation in various fields. This is PM Modi's second visit to Bhutan and his first in his second term as Prime Minister.

Vadodara Collector ties rakhi to NDRF personnel for carrying rescue operations

Vadodara (Gujarat), Aug 17 (ANI): As a mark of gratitude for helping the people of the district during the Vadodara floods, district collector organised a special Raksha Bandhan event for National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel where she along with some eminent citizens of the city tied Rakhi on the wrist of personnel who had participated in flood relief and rescue operations on August 16. Sharing details of the heartwarming initiative, Vadodara District Collector Shalini Agarwal told ANI, "NDRF personnel worked round the clock to rescue people during the time of the flood. Use waste plastic instead of plywood in making your dream house

Hyderabad, Aug 17 (ANI): A couple in Hyderabad has taken up unique initiative. They are building houses and other structures using sheets made up of processed plastic waste. While speaking to ANI, Prashant Lingam said, "In 2017, we saw a video where a bull was being operated and plastic was being removed from its stomach. Then, we started reading up on it." The couple researched about the use of plastics and after gathering information, they met experts to discuss about different use of plastic and came up with a substitute for plywood. "We met experts. Then after two years these sheets were ready and it is perfect substitute for plywood. We use these for making houses, furniture, benches, toilets, bus shelters etc. It is waterproof, heat-proof. Its life is 30-40 years just like any other conventional construction," Lingam added. Tehsildar becomes role model for carrying relief material on head in Karnatak

Mangaluru (Karnataka), Aug 17 (ANI): A Tehsildar of Belthangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka became a role model for other officials who usually believe in keeping distance from physical work and cultivate a sense of superiority complex over the common people. Ganapati Shastri carried a rice bag for flood-affected people on his head while crossing a temporary bridge on August 16. Belthangady taluk is reeling under flood in the state of Karnataka. Heavy rain lashed the taluk which had resulted in flood and washed away an old bridge. Later, with the help of locals, a temporary bridge was built there by using wood. This bridge was used to transport provisions and other things needed by 46 families living on the other side of this bridge.
