The BJP's ascent to power in West Bengal has revived industry expectations around the long-delayed Rs 25,000 crore Tajpur deep sea port project, with stakeholders hopeful that improved coordination between the state and the Centre will accelerate progress on the proposed infrastructure venture.
The optimism comes even as the latest global tender floated in December 2025 by the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) now stands cancelled, after failing to attract adequate participation.
"With the Centre-state alignment in Bengal, the project is well positioned to gain momentum. However, its full potential will hinge on robust last-mile connectivity and seamless multimodal integration," Adhip Nath Pal Chaudhuri, Chairman, National Shipping and Logistics Committee, BCC&I, told PTI.

The leather and footwear industry has sought duty exemptions on a number of critical inputs such as synthetic leather, metal accessories, machinery, threads, moulds, and certain chemicals as the ongoing West Asia crisis has pushed input costs up by up to 60 per cent, an official said.
The industry has recently flagged the matter with the commerce and industry ministry.
The industry official said that the exporters have suggested the government for early implementation of the proposed FLOAT (Footwear and leather oriented transformation) scheme covering the entire product range, raw materials, machinery and inputs.
They have also urged for duty-free import of crust and finished leathers to boost domestic manufacturing.
"The industry is facing a sharp increase in raw material and input costs - rising by 40-60 per cent - due to the West Asia crisis.

State-owned lender Punjab & Sind Bank intends to achieve a milestone total business of Rs 3 lakh crore by end of the ongoing financial year helped by loan growth.
"We have achieved total business of Rs 2.63 lakh crore in FY26, registering a growth of 15 per cent and hope to cross Rs 3 lakh crore during the current financial year," Punjab & Sind Bank MD and CEO Swarup Kumar Saha told PTI.
The bank is expecting a credit growth of 16-18 per cent and deposit expansion of 13-14 per cent in the ongoing financial year, he said.
With this kind of credit and deposit growth, he said, the bank can surpass Rs 3 lakh crore business mix, which is total of advances and deposits.
To meet the credit expansion, the bank is also planning to raise resources from both equity and debt.
Punjab & Sind Bank is eying to mobilise up to Rs 3,000 crore via share sale on a private placement basis in a bid to meet the minimum public shareholding (MPS) norms of market regulator Sebi.

A tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for India has sailed out of the Strait of Hormuz and is now headed towards the country, an official statement said on Sunday.
The Marshall Islands-flagged LPG carrier MT Sarv Shakti, loaded with 46,313 tonnes of LPG and staffed by 20 crew, including 18 Indians, cleared the key shipping chokepoint on May 2 and is expected to reach Visakhapatnam on May 13, it said.
The cargo -- enough to meet half a days requirement of the country -- will partly tide over supply constraints being faced since the start of the West Asia conflict more than two months back.
