Dehradun administration tracking people in home quarantine using GPS

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), May 09 (ANI): Dehradun administration has come with up technological savvy ways to keep a check on those in home quarantine to prevent spread of COVID-19. The administration is using GPS tracking application. Once downloaded into mobile phone of quarantined person, the app sends alerts to Dehradun's command and control centre. Alerts are generated if there is no activity on the mobile phone for 30 minutes, so that COVID-19 patient cannot roam outside market putting phone at home.

Migrant labourers in Delhi plan to travel to Bihar by cycles

New Delhi, May 09 (ANI): A migrant labourer in Delhi bought cycle to travel to home district in Bihar amid lockdown 3.0. "I was facing problem after the company I was working for was shut, so I decided to go home. I asked people from my home to deposit money, I got Rs 4,000 of which I bought cycle worth Rs 3,500 to travel to Bihar," said a migrant labourer. Group of migrants from his home state also joined him on cycles.

Railway staff preparing food for migrant workers at Moradabad's IRCTC kitchen

Moradabad (UP), May 09 (ANI): Railway staffers have come together at Moradabad railway station to prepare food at Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) kitchen for the migrant labourers arriving from the special trains. Indian Railways on May 1 started Shramik Special trains to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and others stranded at different places due to lockdown.

4 Naxals, 1 cop killed during encounter in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon

Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh), May 09 (ANI): Four Naxals were gunned down by security forces in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon. A policeman lost his life in encounter. Gun battle took place in Pardhoni village under Manpur police station limits. According to the police, one AK-47 rifle, 1 SLR weapon and two .315 bore rifles were recovered.

Everyday hygiene reduces need for antibiotics by 30 pc, says new paper

New Delhi, May 09 (ANI): Improved everyday hygiene practices, such as hand-washing, decreases the risk of common infections by up to 50 per cent, reducing the need for antibiotics by up to 30 per cent, according to a new position paper. Global public health experts are now calling for home and community hygiene to become part of strategic plans to reduce hundreds of thousands of deaths from AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance) globally each year. The position paper is published in the American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC). Delhi's migrant workers demand to be sent back home

New Delhi, May 09 (ANI): Around 90 stranded migrant workers staying around Talkatora Road demanded to be sent back to their homes. One of them said, "I don't have any money. My daughter-in-law gave birth to a child 7 days back but she hasn't been able to eat anything" "We first went to Parliament Street Police station from where we were sent to District Magistrate office. When we went there, we were just given a chit with link to some website. We neither have a smartphone nor access to any computer. Where should we go?", said another migrant worker Vinod. The workers mostly came from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

Congress, Samajwadi Party shedding crocodile tears for migrant workers: UP's Labour Minister

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), May 09 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh's Labour Minister, Swami Prasad Maurya hits back at Congress and Samajwadi Party over the Labour Laws Ordinance. "Those shedding crocodile tears for workers perhaps don't know that this ordinance (in Labour Laws) will not only pave way for investments but also open job opportunities for migrant labourers who are returning home and have to be provided jobs here," said Labour Minister Swami Prasad Maurya. "They should first read the ordinance and then make a comment. But there comments show that they are the number one enemies of workers," the minister further said. The Uttar Pradesh government has cleared an ordinance exempting businesses and industries from labour laws for the next three years as a measure to get the State's industrial activities back on track in wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
