Police tightens surveillance in Jammu's Bathindi amid lockdown

Jammu, Apr 20 (ANI): Cases of coronavirus pandemic are growing in the whole country. Bathindi area of Jammu has been identified as a 'red zone'. Police tightened their surveillance in the area. To prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Jammu and Kashmir administration had earlier declared 20 villages as 'Red Zone'. 341 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir as of now.

COVID-19: Lockdown relaxation declares in 7 districts of Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Apr 20 (ANI): Amid nation-wide lockdown due to coronavirus, a few relaxations have been given for some services. An ease in lockdown is declared in seven districts of Kerala starting from April 20. Police forces were seen deployed at several places to keep an eye on the situation. Under new guidelines, salon shops, restaurants, courier services, etc are allowed to work with some necessary conditions in Kerala. 400 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in Kerala as of now.

NHAI resumes toll collection on National Highways

New Delhi/ Mumbai, Apr 20 (ANI): National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) resumed toll collection on national highways on April 20 when the Home Ministry order delineating a list of activities allowed during the lockdown will come into effect. The NHAI had stopped toll operations across the country from March 25 when the nationwide lockdown began amid the COVID-19 outbreak after Ministry of Road Transport and Highways order. Recently, the Home Ministry announced a slew of relaxations towards phased reopening of the economy. The Ministry has allowed commercial and private establishments to resume operations. Toll collection falls under the category. Interstate and intra-state movement of all trucks and other goods or carrier vehicles has also been allowed.

Watch: Clash erupts between police, shopkeepers over lockdown violation

Dholpur (Rajasthan), Apr 20 (ANI): Shopkeepers in Rajasthan's Dholpur clashed with police personnel who were trying to enforce lockdown in the area. The shops remained open in area which attracted the crowd and violated the social distancing norm. Four persons have been arrested by the police and case has also been lodged against them.

Delhi CM should address problems of poor, migrant and stranded people: D Raja

New Delhi, Apr 19(ANI): Communist Party of India leader and Rajya Sabha Member D Raja reacted on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's stand on COVID-19 and lockdown. He said that the Prime Minister has already extended the lockdown till May 3 and Delhi CM had welcomed it previously. "Now he should tell how he is going to address the problems of poor, migrant workers and stranded in Delhi who don't have shelter, food to eat and money to spend. He should address these issues," said D Raja. "Union Government and State Govt must work in cooperation and coordination to find out a solution to help the migrant workers," CPI General Secretary on migrant workers in Maharashtra.

Health Ministry assures no big percentage of asymptomatic people are testing COVID-19 positive

New Delhi, Apr 19 (ANI): Health Ministry Joint Secretary said that historical data across the world shows that there is not a big percentage of asymptomatic people testing COVID-19 positive. He said, "High risk asymptomatic persons are part of sampling criteria. We test and monitor them."

Watch: COVID-19 patient attempts suicide at Safdarjung Hospital

New Delhi, Apr 19 (ANI): Authorities of Safdarjung Hospital rescued a man after he attempted to commit suicide from the third floor of the hospital building on April 19. He was a COVID-19 patient and threatened to cut off his hand if anyone tries to come close to him. He was also seen spitting at the authorities as they attempted to rescue him. The rescue operation was successful in the end.

LNJP Hospital nurses demand for sanitised accommodation, PPEs

New Delhi, Apr 19 (ANI): Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP) Hospital's nursing staff claimed that they haven't given adequate Personal Protective Equipment kits and sanitised accommodation during posting and quarantine period. However, the staff has been shifted to Gujarat Sadan now. The Nursing Officer said, "We are staying at Gujarat Sadan now, but earlier the condition was worse. 17 girls used to stay in one dormitory. There were only two toilets; we used jet pipes for bathing as there was no bathroom." However, Medical Superintendent of Hospital, Doctor JC Passey denied all allegations made by the nursing staff.

Lockdown to be implemented in Aurangabad and 5 other jails in Maharashtra: Anil Deshmukh

Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Apr 19 (ANI): Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that prisons in Maharashtra have more inmates than their actual capacity. "So we've decided to implement lockdown at Aurangabad jail -arrangements for food and stay of police personnel will be made inside jail. No one will be allowed to come out or go inside," said Home Minister. "Similar decision has been taken for 5 more jails in Maharashtra," he added.

Goa goes corona free, informs CM Pramod Sawant

Panaji (Goa), Apr 19 (ANI): Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant said that there are no COVID-19 positive cases reported in the state after April 03. While talking to ANI, "I am delighted to announce that currently there is not a single COVID-19 positive patient. After April 03, there is no COVID-19 positive case reported in Goa," said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The Chief Minister thanked his health professionals and workers of the state.

Health Ministry confirms 1334 new COVID-19 cases and 27 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi, Apr 19(ANI): Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal informed that 1334 new COVID-19 cases and 27 deaths have been reported in last 24 hours. "With this the total cases in the country have mounted up to 15712 and deaths to 507. No new case has been reported in Mahe in Puducherry and Karnataka's Kodagu in the last 28 days.

COVID-19 lockdown: Migrant workers stranded in Dharavi struggle for livelihood

Mumbai, Apr 19 (ANI): The catering businesses in Dharavi in central Mumbai have been shut for more than a month now. Labourers, here are living in uncertainties here between lives and livelihoods. On one hand, migrant workers don't have any job to earn some pennies, on other hand they can't go back to their native homes. William, who runs a catering business in country's commercial capital, Mumbai said, "I am in double pressure right now, I have to feed myself and my workers also." However, William has sent some of workers back to village but left ones are stuck here. All of them are from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Dharavi's economy has gone down after huge number of people infected with the highly contagious COVID-19. Total number of coronavirus cases have reached to 3, 651 in Mumbai, which is the highest across the nation.

People without masks won't get petrol at fuel retail outlets

Decision on UPSC, SSC exams to be taken after May 3: Jitendra Singh

New Delhi, Apr 19 (ANI): Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam and SSC (Staff Selection Commission) dates will be decided in such a manner that sufficient time will be given to all the aspirants to reach their designated exam centres. "UPSC and SSC examinations that were put on hold due to lockdown, will definitely take place. We will take a call after May 3 and reschedule dates in a manner that it gives sufficient time to all the aspirants to reach to their designated examination centers," said Union Minister, Jitendra Singh while talking to ANI.

No proposal for reduction of pension, committed to welfare of pensioners: Centre

New Delhi, Apr 19 (ANI): Central government is not cutting the pension of senior citizens or transferring the pension money to any COVID fund. While talking to ANI, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said, "Government has neither held any discussion nor considered cutting the pension of senior citizens. Also, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government can never take such an insensitive step of transferring the pension money of people above 80 years of age to COVID fund."

COVID-19 lockdown: Woman delivers baby at dentist clinic in Bengaluru

Bengaluru (Karnataka), Apr 19 (ANI): Amid the lockdown in the nation, a pregnant woman delivered a baby at dentist clinic in Bengaluru. The pregnant woman had reached the clinic along with her husband after walking for around 7 kilometers. The Dentist, Doctor Ramya, who made her delivery possible, said, "The baby wasn't responding initially, so we thought baby is dead but later we were able to resuscitate it. We sent them to hospital after the delivery."
