Patna (Bihar), Dec 19 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI-M) leader, Kanhaiya Kumar joined protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Bihar's Patna. He said, "This is not the matter of Muslim community, this is the problem of providing documents, poor people not able to provide proper documents, as they roam around to different states for work, uneducated people will suffer more during this process. Can't give citizenship based on documents," said CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar.

Unhappy over birth of 4th daughter, man commits suicide in Gujarat

Junagadh (Gujarat), Dec 19 (ANI): As per police, a farm labourer in Gujarat's Khambhalia village in Junagadh district killed himself after allegedly killing his 3 daughters aged 9, 7 and 2 years. He killed them by throwing them into a well, after his wife gave birth to another daughter. Later, the man committed suicide by hanging himself. A case has been registered. Investigation is underway.

'There is fear among citizens today': Arvind Kejriwal urges centre to revoke CAA

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on December 19 appealed to the central government to revoke Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), reasoning that there is "fear among all citizens" today due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the country. "Today, law and order situation in the country is deteriorating. There is a fear among all citizens today. I appeal to the central government to not bring this law but give employment to the youth," Kejriwal told reporters in Delhi where parts of areas have been put under Section 144 to tackle violent protests against the new citizenship law.

Bengaluru (Karnataka), Dec 19 (ANI): Historian Ramachandra Guha was detained on December 19 in Bengaluru while taking part in protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Section 144 is imposed in Bengaluru amid call for intense protests against new citizenship law. Meanwhile in Delhi, activist Umar Khalid, too, was taken into custody for protesting CAA near Red Fort where Section 144 is in place. Nation-wide protests intensified after Citizenship Amendment Bill was cleared by Parliament and received President Ram Nath Kovind's assent on December 13. Section 144 is imposed in multiple states across the country to tackle violent protests against CAA.

Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Section 144 has been imposed near Red Fort in old Delhi amid the nation-wide protests against new Citizenship law. The Delhi Police barricaded roads and imposed traffic restrictions to clamp down on planned protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). As per Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, more than four people can't assemble in the said area.

Tourists in Rajouri ecstatic as weather turns snowy

Counter-terrorism, economics discussed during 2+2 dialogue with India: US State Dept Spokesperson

Washington DC (USA), Dec 19 (ANI): The second 2+2 Dialogue between India and US was held at the United States. US State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said that counter-terrorism, economics, trade and security were few of the highlights of the Dialogue. Morgan said, "This is only the second time that we have 2+2 Dialogue between India and US and this is the first time it is being held in the United States. It shows the significance of the US bilateral relationship with India that we were able to have this conversation. India is someone credibly important to us in a number of institutions around the world and the relationship is very important in the President Trump's Indo-Pacific strategy." Speaking on the highlights, she said, "We have a number of issues as it relates to counter-terrorism, economics, trade, security and then what's most important is that world's oldest and world's largest democracies talk on a range of these issues."

Equity indices open marginally lower, Yes Bank falls by 2.8 pc

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices were in the negative zone amid uncertainty in global markets after the US House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump for abuse of power. At 10:15 am, the BSE SandP Sensex was down by 61 points to 41,497 while the Nifty 50 slipped by 18 points at 12,204. Sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were mixed with Nifty bank, financial service, IT, metal and realty in the red. Among stocks, Yes Bank lost by 2.78 per cent to trade at Rs 45.45 per share. ICICI Bank fell by 1.1 per cent and IndusInd Bank by 0.8 per cent. Metal major like Tata Steel and Hindalco too were down by about 1 per cent. The other losers included Grasim, Bharti Airtel, Dr Reddy's GAIL and HDFC. However, those which showed some gains were Bharti Infratel, Mahindra and Mahindra, Hero MotoCorp, Eicher Motors and Tata Motors. Meanwhile, Asian markets traded mixed and gold edged higher as the US House of Representatives voted to impeach Republic
