5-day long Multi-Class National Ranking sailing event concludes in Goa's Panaji

Panaji (Goa), Oct 14 (ANI): A five-day long Multi-Class National Ranking event in sailing concluded in Goa's Panaji on October 13. The event took place at Dolphin Adventure Sports in Hawaii Beach, Dona Paula. The event was kick-started on October 09 and was hosted by the Goa Yachting Association for the first time. The event comprised of sailing in the RS: X Olympic class, RS: One and Techno 293, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7 class, and 470 class. Team Razorbill from Ocean Sailing Node was skippered by Captain AS Patankar and Crew Captain Donde. Commodore Abhilash Tomy and Mohan dominated the days sailing in the Masters Seabirds class and took the guns in both the races. They are now leading with 3 wins followed by Team Kittywake. RTC staffs carry out candlelight march in memory of Srinivas Reddy who immolated self

Hyderabad, Oct 14 (ANI): Road Transport Corporation (RTC) employees carried out a candlelight march in Hyderabad on October 13 in remembrance of driver Srinivas Reddy. Reddy died after immolating himself during a protest. While speaking to ANI, Indian Federation of Trade Unions Vice-President (Telangana) SL Padma said, "An RTC driver died today after he immolated himself during a protest in the city on Saturday. It is tragic news for the RTC workers. We urge the striking protesters not to commit suicide." RTC employees from various depots carried out a candlelight march, which started from Musheerabad RTC depot and ended at Ram Nagar Circle. Speaking to ANI, an RTC employee said, "We are not receiving our salaries. We have repeatedly sent notice to the state government but they have forced us to strike during this festive season." MoS V Muraleedharan meets Pope Francis in Vatican City

New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): The Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan met Pope Francis in Italy's Vatican City on October 13. Antibody-based eye drop may treat dry eye disease: Study

New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): Study found that patients suffering from dry eye can be cured with a new eye drop made from human antibodies. Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago are the first to identify the presence of a specific type of antibody, called anti-citrullinated protein autoantibodies, or ACPAs, in human tear fluid. They are also the first to demonstrate that patients with dry eye disease experienced reduced signs and symptoms of the condition in response to a new eye drop treatment -- made from human pooled antibodies -- that targets ACPAs. The findings from their early-stage clinical trial are reported in the journal -- The Ocular Surface. Dry eye disease is caused by abnormalities in the tear fluid and results in dry areas over the cornea, the transparent outer layer of the eye, which can lead to disabling eye pain and sensitivity to light in severe cases. Jaipur man recreates Rajput tradition by designing 24-carat gold 'Safa'

Jaipur (Rajasthan), Oct 14 (ANI): 'Safas' decorated with threads of precious metals like silver and gold were said to have been last worn by the Rajputs around 80 years ago. But a Jaipur-based designer has recreated the signature apparel. The designer named Bhupendra Singh Shekhawat spent around four years experimenting with several metals to be able to make a 24-carat gold 'Safa', a traditional turban worn by men in the state. The 'Safa', made by Shekhawat, costs around Rs 22 lakh, weighs around 530 grams and is nine meters long. Speaking to ANI, Bhupendra Shekhawat said, "I wanted to make gold 'Safa'. Environmentalists pay tributes to trees cut in Mumbai's Aarey Colony

Mumbai, Oct 14 (ANI): Several environmentalists paid tributes to the trees on October 13 which were cut in Aarey colony by the authorities to construct a car shed for Mumbai Metro. They lighted candles at the spot where around 2000 trees were cut by the authorities earlier this month. On October 7, the Supreme Court (SC) had ordered Maharashtra government not to axe any more trees in Mumbai's Aarey colony and maintain status quo till further orders. Prior to this, the Bombay High Court had upheld the permission granted to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) authority to axe tree to make a metro-car shed. The metro corporation said that on October 4 and 5, it axed over 2,185 trees in the area in concurrence with the order of the High Court. Earlier, a protest broke out in the area after the Bombay High Court dismissed all the petitions challenging the felling of trees. Over 1,500 students participate in 'Sangam Youth Festival' by Indian Army

Jammu, Oct 13 (ANI): Over 1,500 students from 32 different colleges and universities participated in the 'Sangam Youth Festival' being organised by the Indian Army in collaboration with Jammu University in a bid to spread the message of peace, prosperity, communal harmony and national integration. Northern Army commander Lt General Ranbir Singh also attended the five-day event. He had also inaugurated the event on Friday. A total number of 35 events, including outdoor and indoor activities were planned. Students also showcased their performances in sports, cultural and fine arts.
