Celebrities attend GQ Men of the Year awards in Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 29 (ANI): The GQ Men of the Year awards 2019 was held in Mumbai last night (September 28) and Bollywood celebrities had brought their A-Game of fashion to the red carpet. The event was attended by several Bollywood celebrities. Kalki Koechlin opted for a white shirt teamed up with a black blazer, short skirt and tie. Mandira Bedi and Aahana Kumra was seen wearing gown.

Telangana's floral festival Bathukamma off to a colourful start

Hyderabad (Telangana), Sep 29 (ANI): Women celebrated the nine-day floral festival, Bathukamma in Telangana. This year the festival is being celebrated from September 28 to October 6. Bathukamma is a festival celebrated by the women on a grand scale. Alike Durga Pooja, devotees perform rituals and worship Hindu deity Gauri Devi in the form of Bathukamma. For nine days, different names are given to the Hindu deity. The festival commences with Engili Pula Bathukamma and culminates with Saddula Bathukamma on the last day. "We celebrate Bathukamma year with the same zeal and happiness. I come here every year with my family members. We exchange gifts with each other and we do participate and dance to celebrate. This is a nine-day festival and we celebrate the ninth day on a greater scale," a local named Varsha said. Several seasonal flowers having medicinal values are used to make the idols. On the last day of the festival, devotees immerse the idol in Bathukamma Ghat at Tank Bund lake.

Indian Navy, Coast Guard always on alert: Rajnath Singh

Onboard, Sep 29 (ANI): Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh onboard INS Vikramaditya said it is hard to forget 26/11 however it can't be repeated. He confirmed that our Navy and Coast Guard are always on alert. While speaking to ANI, Singh said, "We know it very well that Pakistan uses terrorism as a tool to destabilise India. We cannot forget 26/11 and if there was a lapse then it can't be repeated. Our Navy and Coast Guard are always on alert."

Locals enjoy display of mouth-watering apples in Shimla

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Sep 29 (ANI): Two day apple festival kicked off in Shimla. It started on September 27. Hundred of tourists gathered to enjoy the varieties of apples in the heart of the city. With an objective to promote tourism and to introduce apple varieties to the farmers at a single platform the Tourism and Horticulture departments jointly organized the apple festival. Over 50 varieties of apples and apple made products are also being displayed. To draw the tourist attention cultural dances are being performed.

Elephant dies due to electrocution after getting tangled in fencing in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Sep 29 (ANI): A 5-year-old male elephant was found dead on Saturday after getting it got trapped in solar power fencing at a farm in Kalkothi here. Officials from the forest department rushed to the spot to remove the elephant's body and are in the process of tracing the owner of the farm, who has been identified as Thangavelu. The body of the elephant has been sent for a post mortem.

Devotees throng temples on first day of Navratri

New Delhi, Mumbai Sep 29 (ANI): On the first day of Navratri on Septmber 29, devotees thronged temples in the national capital to seek blessings of the almighty on the auspicious occasion. Jhandewalan temple was decked up in flowers as people gathered to attend the first 'Aarti' of the nine-day-long festivities. During these nine days, devotees observe fast and perform puja. "We are feeling happy from inside that first day of Navratri arrived. We take blessings form Mata Rani," a devotee told ANI.

High Court bans animal sacrifice in temples of Tripura

Agartala (Tripura), Sep 29 (ANI): The Tripura High Court on September 27 ordered a ban on animal sacrifice in temples in the state. High Court gave the verdict in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Subhash Bhattacharjee, a retired judge. According to the petitioner, animal sacrifice is a practice of cruelty against animals. "It is very good step taken by High Court. I hope it is the step in right direction," a local told to ANI. "If we can't create a life then we don't have right to destroy it," another local said to ANI.

Apple fixes buggy iOS 13 with an update

New Delhi, Sep 29 (ANI): iOS 13 updates brought with it a range of improvements but also a number of bugs related to battery, iPhone restore, and more. As CNBC reports, Apple has released the iOS 13.1.1 update, fixing a bug that resulted in keyboard extensions being granted full access even if access is not approved. The latest update also fixes issues related to iPhone restoring, battery drain, Siri, Safari search, and Reminders sync. The update can be downloaded in the Settings app.

Watch: Ramban SSP attempts to persuade terrorist to surrender in Batote

Ramban (JandK), Sep 29 (ANI): Ramban SSP Anita Sharma during encounter in Batote town of Jammu and Kashmir asked terrorists to surrender. "We assure nothing will happen to you, come out as the 15 minute time given to you is over," said SSP Sharma using a microphone from outside the spot where terrorist was hiding. Security forces eliminated three terrorists in Batote town of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir on September 28. One Army personnel also lost his life while two policemen got injured during the encounter. The lone civilian hostage, captured by the terrorists in a civilian house, was also evacuated by the security forces.

Senior civil police officer Aparna Lavakumar is currently making headlines for her great initiative. Aparna's family also supports her for this tremendous effort. "I did it for the cancer patients. It was my wish so I donated my hair," she told to mediaperson. In 2016 Aparna also donated her hair for the same cause.

Ahead of Kolu festival, colorful Kolu dolls are displayed in market. Kolu, also Known as Golu, is the festive display of dolls and figurines in South India during the autumn festive season, particularly around Navratri (Dussehra, Dasara) festival of Hinduism. These displays are typically thematic, narrating a legend from a Hindu text or a secular cultural issue. They are also known as Kolu, Gombe Habba, Bommai Kolu or Bommala Koluvu. These dolls are typically made by rural artisans from clay and local materials then brightly painted. They are generally arranged in an odd number of padis (tiers) to tell a story. Goddess-related themes are common, along with developments such as anticipated wedding within the family and of friends.

Batote encounter: 3 terrorists, 1 Army personnel killed; lone hostage rescued

Ramban (J and K), Sep 28 (ANI): Security forces eliminated three terrorists in Batote town of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir on September 28. One Army personnel also lost his life while two policemen got injured during the encounter. The lone civilian hostage, captured by the terrorists in a civilian house, was also evacuated by the security forces. The exchange of fire started after two suspicious individuals tried to stop a civilian vehicle in Batote where joint parties of police, CRPF and Army trapped five terrorists. Later, security forces celebrated the successful encounter by raising pro-India and anti-Pakistan slogans.

Bengaluru, Sep 28 (ANI): Karnataka Congress president Dinesh Gundu Rao on Saturday slammed disqualified MLA ST Somashekhar for calling him an incapable party president and said that the ex-MLA is speaking things out of frustration. "Somashekhar left the Congress because he was sold dreams by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Now, it has been months and he is frustrated as none of the dreams have been fulfilled so far," added Rao. Yesterday (September 27), Somashekhar launched a scathing attack at Congress leadership in Karnataka, blamed Siddaramaiah and Dinesh Gundu Rao for the downfall of Congress-JDS coalition government in the state.
