GDA sets up homes for birds in housing societies

Ghaziabad (UP), Sep 21 (ANI): Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) set up homes for birds in housing societies. They installed towers in housing societies that have wooden boxes for birds to build nests inside them. They built around 60 flats for the birds to live in. These flats are fully-furnished with an add-on swimming pool for birds. GDA took the inspiration from Jaipur and the aim is to increase the population of the birds in urban area.

PM Modi departs for 7-day visit to US to boost bilateral ties

New Delhi, Sep 21 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for a week-long tour to the United States on September 20 with an aim to boost bilateral ties and present India as 'a vibrant land of opportunities.' PM Modi will first reach Houston for the 'Howdy Modi' event and will also address the United Nations General Assembly on September 27 in New York.

Tinder introduces Swipe Night for series-based matching experience

New Delhi, Sep 21 (ANI): Tinder is introducing a new way to help the Gen-Z match up with their choice of people. The Swipe Night story is a first-of-its-kind interactive experience where Tinder members choose to journey through moral dilemmas and practical choices with only seven seconds to decide. Their choices will be added to their profiles and, in turn, impact their matches, the official blog notes. It is the first time responsive, streaming video will be available on Tinder. Every Sunday in October, a new part of the Swipe Night adventure will be released. From 6 PM until midnight, any active Tinder member in the US will have the chance to experience the feature.

Congress backs Chidambaram over INX Media case

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): Congress veteran leader Jairam Ramesh on September 20 backed party leader P Chidambaram on INX media case. Accusing the BJP party for doing conspiracy against the former finance minister he said Chidambaram signed the INX Media file on 28 may 2007, on the same day 11 officials also signed the file and investigating agencies didn't raise any finger to the officials except Chidambaram. He asked that if 11 officials are innocent then how Chidambaram can found guilty. Judicial custody of Chidambaram was extended till October 3 by special court in INX Media case on September 19.

Amit Shah launches Chandigarh Police ERSS, e-Beat system

Chandigarh, Sep 20 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on September 20 launched Chandigarh Police's 'e-Beat' system and Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) in Chandigarh. While addressing the event, he said, "As a former home minister of a state and now union home minister, I have realized that the beat system should be given more importance. It can be most powerful tools to maintain law and order. At a time when the beat system is losing its importance, Chandigarh Police have done a great job by modernizing it."

10 injured after fire breaks out in Haldia Petrochemicals cracker uni

Haldia (WB), Sep 20 (ANI): At least 10 people were injured after a fire broke out at Naphtha Cracker Unit of Haldia Petrochemicals in Kolkata on September 20. The fire took place around 11:45 am and since then fire tenders have been attempting to douse the blaze. The injured have been sent to Kolkata for treatment. More details are awaited.

Mohammed Shami appeals people to make country clean and plastic free

Amroha (UP), Sep 20 (ANI): Indian Cricketer Mohammed Shami appealed to the public to follow the Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat mission and plastic ban campaign. While speaking to the media, he said, "I want people to join hands and make the country clean and plastic free." 6-ft-long snake enters Anganwadi meal room in TN's Coimbatore

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Sep 20 (ANI): A six-feet-long poisonous snake was found in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore on September 20. It entered an Anganwadi meal room at Irugur. It was later rescued by rescue team.

Tejashwi slams CM Nitish over health infrastructure in Bihar

Patna (Bihar), Sep 20 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on September 20 slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over deteriorated health index. Showing the list of Niti Ayog he said that state's situation is very critical and Bihar is dealing with worst health crisis. "Bihar is the second worst performing state in the country in the second edition of the health index analysis by the Niti Ayog," said Yadav. Referring to Niti Ayog's health index list he asked CM Kumar how this happens in his 15 years of regime.

CM Adityanath reviews flood situation on rescue boat in Varanasi

Varanasi (UP), Sep 20 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed flood situation in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on September 20. Relief materials were also distributed to the affected. NDRF, SDRF and flood unit are carrying out relief and rescue operations. River Ganga had swelled due to heavy rains in the region and water entered into villages across several districts of the state. Even the busy roads have been submerged.

Jadavpur University violence: SFI protests in solidarity with university

Kolkata (West Bengal), Sep 20 (ANI): Minister of State (MoS) of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Babul Supriyo was heckled, slapped and detained for hours by protesting students at Kolkata's Jadavpur University on September 19. He had gone to the university to address a seminar which was organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The Students Federation of India (SFI) protested in solidarity with Jadavpur University on September 20. He met with resistance by protesting students of left outfit who showed him black flags and indulged in sloganeering. The situation escalated to such an extent that West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar had to come to Babul Supriyo's rescue but even his car was not allowed to leave the university campus.

BJP takes out protest march in Kolkata over attack on Babul Supriyo

Kolkata, Sep 20 (ANI): BJP leaders and workers took out a protest rally in Kolkata on September 20. The protest comes after Union Minister Babul Supriyo was heckled in Jadavpur University on September 19. The high drama started when Babul Supriyo reached the central university to attend an event organised by the ABVP. However, when he entered the university, he was encountered with students who were allegedly protesting against the ABVP on the campus. While speaking to ANI, BJP state vice president, Jay Prakash Majumdar, said, "TMC, SFI and Naxals they are destroying culture of Jadavpur University and over all West Bengal. There is no law in the state."

PM Modi, Mongolian President unveil Lord Buddha statue in Mongolia via video-conferencing in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga jointly unveiled Lord Buddha statue on September 20. They unveiled the statue via video-conferencing in Delhi. The statue is built at Gandan Monastery in Mongolia. Earlier, President of Mongolia met PM Narendra Modi in the national capital. He arrived in Delhi on September 19 for a five-day visit. He is accompanied by a high-level business delegation. Battulga will also participate in an India-Mongolia Business Forum in New Delhi.

New effective corporate tax rate shall be 25.17 percent: FM Sitharaman

Panaji (Goa), Sep 20 (ANI): While addressing a press conference Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed to slash the corporate tax rate for domestic companies. "To promote growth, a new provision has been inserted in the income tax act with effect from fiscal year 2019-20, which allows any domestic company to pay income tax at the rate of 22% subject to condition they will not avail any incentive or exemptions. The effective tax rate for these companies shall be 25.17 % inclusive of all surcharge and cess."

President of Mongolia meets PM Modi in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): President of Mongolia, Khaltmaagiin Battulga, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on September 20. President Battulga arrived in New Delhi on September 19 for a five-day visit. He is accompanied by a high-level business delegation. Battulga will also participate in an India-Mongolia Business Forum in New Delhi.

Azad Singh removed from district president post: Manoj Tiwari after BJP leader seen slapping wife

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): BJP's Mehrauli state district president Azad Singh, who was seen slapping his wife in a viral video, has been removed from his post, informed Manoj Tiwari, president, Delhi BJP. "There can be no compromise with the dignity of a woman. We have formed a probe committee and the person has been removed from district president post," Tiwari told ANI. The video has gone viral on social media. Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari has ordered a panel to probe the incident.

Water-logging at several places as Mumbai breaks 65-year record for September rains

Mumbai, Sep 20 (ANI): Water-logging was witnessed at several places in Mumbai as the city witnessed highest rains for September month since 1954. Flooded roads were seen near near Gandhi Market in Mumbai on September 20. Incessant rain hit normal life out of order. Vehicles were wading through the flooded roads. Locals faced problem in commuting due to heavy rainfall in the area.

BJP's Swami Chinmayanand arrested in connection with rape of UP Law student

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 20 (ANI): BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand has been arrested in connection with rape of a 23-year-old Uttar Pradesh law student. The development has come after the woman, who studies in a UP law college run by Swami Chinmayanand, had recorded her statement at the court of the judicial magistrate on Monday (September 16), accusing the BJP leader of raping her. The law student had gone missing on August 24 after a video of her alleging that a person from 'Sant Samaj' had threatened to kill her and her parents went viral on social media. The woman was produced before the top court on August 30 after she was found in Rajasthan. The SIT in this regard was formed on the directions of the Supreme Court in the first week of September to investigate the case.

Babul Supriyo's heckling matter of concern, but BJP creating chaos in WB: PL Punia

Punia on Sep 20 said the incident at West Bengal's Jadavpur University where Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Babul Supriyo was heckled, is a matter of concern, although added that the BJP is always rakes up issues which create chaos in the state. Punia further said Supriyo, a union minister, should have informed authorities before visiting the university to avoid such incidents.
