Fishermen in Rameswaram explore alternative source of income through carving conch

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), Sep 12 (ANI): Fishermen venture into sea everyday in search of livelihood. They also bring something else with them. Conch shells left behind by mollusks are often caught in the fishing nets. Fishermen of Rameswaram are now exploring an additional income opportunities with these conchs. These conchs are turned into pieces of art by painting and sculpting. These attractive objects are bought by tourists as souvenirs. Fishermen make key-chains and paperweights with it. It becomes a source of additional income for these fishermen-cum-artists. Conch shells are also used in India as a musical instrument, especially during religious festivals and rituals. They are also used as decorative items in general.

New Delhi, Sep 12 (ANI): Mahmood Madani, general secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, on Sep 12 said that he has no problem if NRC is done across India as it will help in knowing about the "intruders" at a time when "genuine citizens" are also looked down upon as intruders. "The NRC should be conducted in the whole country as it will help in knowing how many intruders are here. Even those who are genuine are being blamed. Hence it should be done. I have no problem with that," he told the media in Delhi.

New Delhi, Sep 12 (ANI): While addressing a press conference in Delhi on September 12, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind general secretary Mahmood Madani said that the Muslim organisation has passed a resolution which stated that Kashmir is an "integral part of India". "We have passed a resolution today that Kashmir is an integral part of India. There will be no compromise with security and integrity of our country. India is our country and we stand by it. Pakistan is trying to project on the international forum that India Muslims are against India. We condemn this act of Pakistan."

Pakistan delegation absent at 1st military co-operation of SCO

6 dead, 10 injured in bus collision on Pune-Bengaluru Highway

Satara (Maharashtra), Sep 12 (ANI): At least six persons died while ten others got injured after a bus they were travelling in rammed into a truck near Satara on Pune-Bengaluru National Highway on September 12. DK Shivakumar arrives at ED office in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 12 (ANI): Congress leader DK Shivakumar reached at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in New Delhi on September 12. Meanwhile, Aishwarya, daughter of Shivakumar, also arrived at the office of ED. She was summoned by the agency to appear before it today. Antarctic sea sponge may yield treatment for malaria

New Delhi, Sep 12 (ANI): As current medications for malaria become less effective due to drug resistance, researchers have revealed that a peptide they isolated from an Antarctic sponge shows promise as a lead for new therapies. The study was published in 'Journal of Natural Products.' Some 219 million cases of malaria were reported worldwide in 2017, according to the World Health Organization, with 4,35,000 people having lost their lives to their disease that year. Symptoms begin with fever and chills, which can be followed by severe anaemia, respiratory distress and organ failure. The parasite responsible for malaria is transmitted to people through mosquito bites. It spends some of its lifecycles first in the liver, where it reproduces, and then it moves into the blood. Conventional treatments based on artemisinin and its derivatives hold the parasite in check when it is in patients' blood, but the parasites are increasingly becoming resistant to these medications.
