Dhoni says Australian bowlers executed their plans well

Brisbane, Jan 16 (ANI): India's ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said that the Australian bowlers executed their plans well after his team lost second one-day by seven wickets in Brisbane. Rohit Sharma burnished his reputation in limited-overs cricket with a second successive century but could not stop Australia from winning the second one-day to consolidate their lead in the series. Dhoni admitted that the major problem in his side was of execution and the Australian bowling made it difficult for the Indian batsmen to score at the later stage of the innings. Australia's opening pair eventually fell in quick succession after identical knocks of 71, but George Bailey added 78 runs with skipper Steven Smith (46) and George Maxwell (26 not out) hit the winning run to complete the chase with one over to spare. Aaron Finch said his 145-run partnership with Marsh gave them an advantage and also praised counterparts' bowling attack. Bailey followed his 112 in Perth with a 58-ball knock th

Dhoni to lead India in World T20 at home

New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been announced as India's limited-overs captain for next year's World Twenty20 while also throwing a lifeline for batsman Yuvraj Singh's international career by including him in the shortest format for Australia tour. India lost one-day international and Twenty20 series against South Africa at home under Dhoni, who retired from Tests during Australia tour last year and thereby paving way for Virat Kohli to take over as the captain in the five-day format. Amla- de Villiers defy Kohli's quest for 3-0 victory

New Delhi, Dec 06 (ANI): South Africa on Sunday opted to salvage a draw in the final test here after the host tightened the grip on the match, riding high on Rahane's second ton of the series.India declared its second innings on 267-5 half an hour before the lunch break as soon as Rahane (100) became the fifth Indian to score centuries in each innings of a test match on the penultimate day at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium.Addressing post-match news conference, Indian fast bowler, Umesh Yadav, said that the visitors were playing defensive cricket under pressure. Even after Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Bavuma, the score moved at a funereal pace as de Villiers too curbed his natural aggression, needing 33 balls to get off the mark. Despite the presence of contemporary cricket's most destructive batsman in de Villiers and one of the most fluent scorers in Amla, the first 10 overs of their partnership did not yield a single run and things did not improve later either. Rahane then took a qui

New Delhi, Dec 04 (ANI): Senior BCCI functionary Rajeev Shukla said on Friday, that the cricket board is waiting for the Central Government's response for the holding of the India-Pakistan cricket series in Sri Lanka. He said that the BCCI has sent a proposal to the foreign ministry, but the response is yet awaited. Gritty Rahane rescues India after Piedt shines

New Delhi, Dec 04 (ANI): Ajinkya Rahane rescued India with a gutsy unbeaten 89, guiding the hosts to 231 for seven after off-spinner Dane Piedt made a memorable return to the South African test side on the opening day of the fourth and final test. India were reeling at 66-3 and then at 139-6 but Rahane, often unnoticed in the crowd of flashy strokeplayers around him, featured in two fifty-plus stands to help India post the highest total in the low-scoring four-match series. Ravichandran Ashwin was giving him company on six at stumps. For South Africa, Piedt claimed four wickets while paceman Kyle Abbot (3-23) also justified his recall for the final test against India, who have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead. Of all the tracks used in the four-match series, the hard 22-yard strip at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium offered the least turn but Piedt conjured up a performance that left many wondering why the 25-year-old was not played before. Kohli hits back over SA Test pitch row

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): Virat Kohli steadfastly defended the spin-friendly pitches and once again resented the talk around the pitches, which he claimed "defied logic" while addressing a news conference in New Delhi. India beat South Africa inside three days both in Mohali and Nagpur, while also dominating the rained-out second test in Bangalore. Pitches used for the four-match series have taken some sheen off India's achievement, with the Nagpur surface rated as "poor" by the match referee. Indians are criticised for the game and techniques when they don't play well but when the visitors don't play well, it's always the wicket. Currently the number one test bowler, Steyn will finish the series having bowled only 11 overs, during India's first innings at Mohali. The turning tracks in India had already taken much of the sting off the Proteas attack and Steyn's injury meant he and Morne Morkel, who missed the Mohali contest with a quad strain, never bowled in tandem in the series. Rain washes out third straight day of India-SA test match

Bengaluru, Nov 17 (ANI): Wet weather and soggy conditions ensured play was called off without a single ball being bowled for the third successive day in the second test between India and South Africa on Tuesday (November 17). After two days were lost to rain, the downpours relented in the morning but the wet outfield, especially along the run-up areas, remained a concern for the umpires. The match officials initially ruled out any action in the morning session but seemed optimistic of play resuming after lunch at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in southern Bengaluru city. Even the fielding coach of India cricket team, Ramakrishnan Sridhar, seemed resigned to the situation. Even the fans who came from different parts of the country were disappointed.
