Difficult to talk to Pakistan as there is no single institution in complete power: Rahul Gandhi

London (UK), Aug 24 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday shared his opinion on India's talks with Pakistan. He said that it's very difficult for India to have a talk with Pakistan as there is no one institution which is in complete power. "Pakistan in our prospective is number of institutions, the difficulty with Indian prospective is which institution you talk to, some of the institutions are hostile to India, some of them are attacking India," said Gandhi. He added that "There is no deeply thought out strategy by PM Modi when it comes to Pakistan."

RJP-N says Nepal PM lying about Maleth incident

Kathmandu (Nepal), Aug 22 (ANI): The Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP-N) claimed that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli lied about not being present during the police firing that took place in Maleth in March last year. RJP-N General Secretary Keshav Jha praised Prime Minister Oli's address in provincial assembly of province 2 on Saturday, but claimed that it was marred by false statements. Jha further questioned the reliability of the state head and claimed that Oli's denial of being present at the time of firing had saddened the party. The National Human Rights Commission's investigation into the event said that that the condition worsened because of the mass meeting despite being aware of the circumstance.

Mike Pompeo to visit Pak to meet Imran Khan

New Delhi, Aug 20 (ANI): United States Secretary of State Michael Pompeo is likely to visit Pakistan to hold talks with newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan. He is expected to visit Islamabad in the first week of September. Pompeo would be the first foreign dignitary to meet Imran Khan. Imran Khan on August 18 sworn-in as Pakistan's 22nd Prime Minister in Islamabad. Pompeo congratulated Khan and said that the US is looking forward to work with Pakistan's new government to promote peace and prosperity in the region. On Pakistan's Independence Day, Pompeo, in a special message said that he wishes to improve and bolster bilateral relations between the two countries. In January, the relation between US and Pakistan plunged after President Trump accused Pakistan of giving nothing to Washington but "lies and deceit" and providing "safe haven" to terrorists.

Kofi Annan, Former UN Secretary General passes away at 80

New Delhi, Aug 18 (ANI): Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan passed away at the age of 80 after a short illness, announced United Nations on Saturday. Annan had served two terms as the Secretary General spanning from 1997 to 2006. He even won Nobel peace prize for his humanitarian work in 2001. He was the first black African to serve in the post of a UN Secretary General. Originally from Ghana, Annan retired and moved to Geneva. From there he moved to a village in Switzerland. He breathed his last at a hospital in Bern, surrounded by his family. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences saying, "We express our profound sorrow at the passing away of Nobel Laureate and former UNSG Mr. Kofi Annan. The world has lost not only a great African diplomat and humanitarian but also a conscience keeper of international peace and security."

Kabul suicide bombing: Death toll reaches 48

Kabul (Afghanistan), Aug 16 (ANI): The death toll rose to 48 in the suicide bombing attack which shook Kabul on Wednesday. 67 others were also injured in the attack when a suspected suicide bomber blew himself up in front of an educational centre in Dasht-e-Barchi in the west of the Afghan's Kabul. The blast occurred at a time when classes were being conducted, reported Tolo News. The security forces have sealed off the place and the injured have been shifted to the city hospital. Nepal receives special gifts on India's Independence Day

Hundreds of pilgrims stranded in Nepal's Sindhuli

Sindhuli (Nepal), Aug 14 (ANI): About 2,300 pilgrims from Nepal and India are stranded on the shore of Kamala River flowing through Sindhuli district in Central Nepal. The pilgrims, on the route back from Madhuganga Mahadev Temple in Sindhuli's Dudhauli Municipality. 2 are left stranded on the shores because of the risen water level. Ghazni attack: 70 policemen killed in three days

Strongest-ever earthquake rattles Northern Alaska

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): An earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitudes on the Richter scale struck a remote part of Alaska on August 12, the US Geographical Survey confirmed. No causalities or damages have been reported as yet. It happened after the earthquake hit the country's North Slope. It was the strongest earthquake ever recorded in the region, with the previous most powerful quake being recorded in 1995 at magnitude 5.2. According to USGS data and the earthquake centre, several strong aftershocks were also felt following the quake.
