BPCL plans Rs 2,800 cr expansion at Bina refinery

Bina refinery was commissioned in January 2011 at an investment of Rs 12,500 crore and is currently working at 100 per cent capacity

India's second-largest oil marketing company Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) plans to invest around Rs 2,800 crore at its Bina refinery in Madhya Pradesh for capacity enhancement, said company officials.

"We plan to enhance the current capacity of Bina refinery from 6 million tonnes per annum to 8.85 million tonnes per annum shortly by investing around Rs 2,800 crore," said BPCL chairman and managing director S Varadrajan.

Bina refinery was commissioned in January 2011 at an investment of Rs 12,500 crore and is currently working at 100 per cent capacity, said official.

"The planned investment will increase the availability of products for consumers in Madhya Pradesh," added Varadrajan.
 

Company officials shared the above details at the launch of the company's consumer centric initiatives 'BPCL First' in Indore.

New initiatives like automation of pumps, websites, mobile applications, Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system, SMS facility, among others will soon be launched across the country.

The company, officials said, plans to keep up the quality and quantity promise at its petrol stations, enhance online booking facility for its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) products, help dealers manage the outlets and address consumer complaints.

Among other major plans of the company are investments in wind, solar and bio-fuels for which work is on and time of entry is yet to be decided, said Varadrajan.

BPCL, which has four refineries, owns 49 per cent or majority stake in the Bina Refinery with the rest being held by Oman Oil Company Limited (OOCL), the Madhya Pradesh government and financial institutions. BPCL has laid a 935-km-long pipeline from Vadinar on the Gujarat coast to Bina to transport the imported crude.
