The poultry industry in north coastal Andhra Pradesh has lost about Rs 500 crore due to the cyclone. According to preliminary estimates, more than Rs 500 crore worth of property was damaged in the form of poultry sheds, poultry birds, egg stock and feed ingredients, said V Sunder Naidu, president, Andhra Pradesh Poultry Federation.
There are 7.5 million poultry birds, including layers, broilers and breeder, spread over in the three cyclone-hit districts. Of this, more than 3.5 million birds had died and most of the sheds had been blown away, he added. Almost all feed godowns, feed ingredients had been damaged.
