However, the police refrained from disclosing the motive behind the murder.

"Those who were held include Manohar, a close associate of Vijay Kumar, who had taken him to Anil alias Pandya and handed over to him in Haryana for the murder on November 14," SP Churu Omprakash said.

Besides the Dara Singh encounter case, Vijay was wanted in another local murder case and he wanted to influence witnesses in both the cases in his favour for which he asked his associate Manohar to make some arrangement.

"Manohar promised to get it done by criminals Anil and Shrawan and fixed Vijay's meeting with them. Vijay also gave money to Manohar for the purpose," the SP said.

Manohar, Dinesh and Mahipal took Vijay to Haryana on November 14 and handed over to Anil, Sharwan and others who shot him dead and the body was recovered next day on November 15 in Churu's Bhukredi village.

The SP said that the police teams were camping in different areas in search of the other culprits including Anil.

Vijay, who was involved in illegal liquor business, was a wanted accused in the Dara Singh encounter case probed by CBI in which several policemen including two senior IPS officers are behind bars.

As per the investigation, Vijay Kumar had handed over Dara Singh, a liquor smuggler, to special operation group of Rajasthan police in October 2006 which killed Dara in the fake encounter.

BJP MLA Rajendra Rathore was also arrested in April this year in connection with the case but he was discharged by a lower court but Dara Singh's widow challenged it and the matter is now pending with the Supreme court.
