The Centre has allotted Rs 2,000 crore for upgrading security in public sector undertakings. Of this, Rs 500 crore will be spent this year.
“The Centre, which is by far the biggest buyer of safety and security equipment, has allotted Rs 2000 crore to upgrade security systems,” Tanvir Ahmed, Senior Manager, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), said.
Ahmed was speaking at a presentation on the Ninth International Security, Safety and Fire Exhibition. The exhibition will be organised by the ITPO and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in December. The CISF is in charge of security at 269 public sector undertakings.
CISF officials here said the revamp had been prompted by the changing security scenario in the country.
Ashok Vora, Group Commandant, CISF, said more and more people were now opting for high-tech security gadgetry instead of augmenting manpower.
“More than 200 companies from India and abroad will exhibit their security and safety systems in the exhibition, and this is an opportunity for Gujarat companies to seek a share in this market,” he said. He also urged companies manufacturing safety and security equipment to participate in the exhibition.
The display profile at the exhibition, to be held at Delhi’s Pragati Maidan will include access control systems, perimeter protection devices, surveillance devices, burglar alarm systems, explosive detection and disposal equipment, aviation security systems, bank and hospital security equipment, de-bugging devices, traffic monitoring systems, fire alarm and firefighting equipment.
BS Sharma, the manager of the exhibition, said more than 200 companies were expected to participate in the event, in which trade delegations had also been invited. ITPO and CISF, with the assistance of the Gujarat Chambers of Commerce and Industry organised the presentation to get companies from Gujarat to participate in the exhibition.
